Thank you. I too cringe at these timid euphemisms. "Passed". Passed what? An exam? Driving test? Wind? This site of all places should be a haven where the members are not afraid to use the word "died".
-
Thanks for this. Highly entertaining.

Not strictly a single word, but I find it infuriating when people won't simply state the age of a child, but insist on using school jargon which is unfathomable to those of us of a certain age. I haven't a clue what Year 7 or Year 12 means, why can't they just say a ten-year-old or whatever. Yours grumpily Toast (Year 98)

Paid deaths column announcements count as QOs? That surprises me.

Did you get your new telly, Phil?
-
Well, that's my point really. If Les Dennis can do it, Dec should be more than capable of sustaining a solo career.
-
Without being too specific I can remember the assassination of JFK and the first ever episode of Doctor Who. Many years later I learned that these coincided with the death of my Granny, which I remember but had never associated with those other big events. I was yet to be acquainted with the works of C.S. Lewis, or indeed Aldous Huxley, so their deaths passed me by. I do have a senior railcard.

Dec could just carry on as a solo compere, or go back to acting. Les Dennis did that after the untimely death of Dustin Gee, to the point where most people have forgotten (or never knew) that he came to fame as part of a double act.

Happy birthday You can get a rail card again now

Was that today? Damn, I missed it.

What are we supposed to call this then?

If you had been holidaying near the Danube in the 1980s, you might have enjoyed a river trip with the Donaudampfschiffahrtgesellschaft which gives the opportunity for some even longer words.

If we're going for foreign words, then who could not be charmed by zakkenroller, the Dutch word for pickpocket. Mind you, pickpocket is a fun word too.

Sorry, that's outside my range of knowledge of GoT! Definitely outside Jon Snow's range of knowledge, but then that's not really surprising, is it -

Yes, I was thinking more ... -
I was saddened to hear that blahblahblah v. I was sad to hear that blahblahblah "Saddened" just sounds a bit half-hearted to me.
-
"Saddened" What's wrong with "sad"?

I shall be visiting Didcot tomorrow. I hope these are still in place. And surely there must be one somewhere featuring 'Winterfell'? -
Ah.

Yes, it is heartbreaking especially when no, it's always heartbreaking.

"Youngster". I've always hated that word. It comes over as a bit patronising and I don't like the way it sounds.
