You've killed that stone dead by 1. Not having a closing date for entries and 2. Having entries openly posted as they come in Now anyone can come along after a week or so and pick off all the uniques for their own team.

This is irrelevant, but an anagram of his name is Banjo Harps.

    Horse Racing

There was some story not too long ago about him having been on a diet. I don't believe any of it. He was on my very first DDP team ten years ago, on the grounds that he looked like the sort to keel over suddenly from a heart attack.

A few of the C names I submitted are still missing. Do you want me to send them again? Also I must have missed Noel Duggan, unless he's been recently added.

Quite right. He's retired and he can do what he likes. Article says he was out carriage driving the other day.

    Words We Dislike

'Gaffer' has been used as a word for the boss throughout my lifetime. So I am surprised to see that the OED calls this usage 'obsolete except in dialect'.

    Words We Dislike

I thought I'd explained that. I wanted a list of male actors because the role in question was for a man. But because we are apparently not allowed to distinguish between male and female thespians, the lists that came up were full of women. Put it this way. When they were looking for an actor to play a younger version of Inspector Morse (played by John Thaw in the original series), they wouldn't have been interested in casting a woman for the role. So in this context it is convenient to have distinguishing terms.

    Peter Kay

I don't get why people are speculating all this sort of thing. Didn't his PR announce a few weeks/months back that he was cancelling everything because of a family member's serious illness? Given that he's married with three kids, there's a few plausible candidates. Found it now, it actually said "unforeseen family circumstances" but that could mean one of his children is ill. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-42339698

That's a shame. It's still a genuinely family-run company and I've always found their service to be excellent. Long may they continue.

I've never heard of What Everyone Wants or What Every Woman Wants, and I don't know why you mentioned me there. As for a Woolworths-a-like, I find Wilkinsons usually has everything you mention. Stamps, stationery, DIY goods, electrical bits, batteries, pet supplies, gardening stuff, housewares, toiletries, cleaning stuff, lottery .... oh yes, and Pick'n'Mix.

    Budget Household

I haven't had tinned soup for years (still less cuppa soup). It's so easy to make your own. My budget tip is to buy a smoked ham hock (about £3.50 at local farm shop/butcher) Simmer it in plenty of water for two hours or so, until it's falling away from the bone. That water will turn into a couple of litres of tasty stock from which you can make fabulous soup from whatever you like. Good way to use up any left overs or tired veg. Meanwhile you will also have a fair bit of tasty meat which can be stretched in various ways. Nice with green lentils cooked in a bit of the bacon stock. And the skin can be roasted or grilled to make pork scratchings.

As long as he lasts through to the end of May, as I have tickets for some of those gigs.
