Just looked at the DL obit. "Booth was best known for his role as Mike Rawlins in the shockingly racist 1960s/70s BBC sitcom, Till Death Do Us Part." I do feel it's inaccurate to describe 'Till Death Us Do Part' (sic) as "shockingly racist". The main character (Alf Garnett) was indeed racist, but he was constantly ridiculed by his daughter and son-in-law (Booth) who found his racism reprehensible. The show reflected the generation gap where the younger characters had more liberal attitudes. Alf was usually the butt of all the jokes: the audience laughed at him and not with him.

I'm upset that you forgot about Lady Lucan.

First Ladies? Nah.

1. Funny, that was about the time I stopped watching it. 2. It was only on twice a week then, of course. I used to watch Eastenders, Emmerdale and Brookside as well, but when they started being on nearly every day I gave up and went cold turkey on the lot.

I think his art has been a refuge to him, he can lose himself in his drawing and escape from the cancer worries. I can quite understand the fear that this might be taken from him. Have you seen his drawings? The guy has enormous talent and imagination.

It's fine to post it in the "Dead of" year thread. All deaths would be posted here if I was in charge.

I have a less sexist version of that theme team

Montparnasse Cemetery, if I'm not mistaken. Nice tomb, and one I haven't seen.

On a similar note, I was once walking the dogs beside an all-weather racehorse gallop when there was a heavy passing shower. I sat down in the lee of the bank waiting for the cloud to pass. Suddenly the surface of the gallop (made up of wood shavings and chippings) started to move like a pan of boiling water. And then two baby moles burst out of it, play-fighting. After exchanging a few punches, they disappeared again below ground. Never seen anything like that before!

When I thought about going on it (purely for something different to do) I found that I would have to go considerably out of my way to use it for the purposes of getting to the O2. That's coming from central London. Also it does not seem to offer views of anything particularly striking or picturesque, just industrial grimness. Just seems a weird place to put it. -
