I think they deserve separate topic (up to now, I have posted cardinals' death news in From Cleric to Relic topic). In 2009, eight of the Roman Cardinals died, namely Pio Laghi, Stéphanos II Ghattas, Stephen Kim Sou-hwan, Paul-Joseph Pham Ðinh Tung, Umberto Betti, Jean Margéot, Peter Seiichi Shirayanagi, and Cahal Brendan Daly (all were non-electors, ie. those older than eighty years who lost their right to participate in conclaves). The 2010 Cardinal Death Count started on January 9 when Cardinal Armand-Gaétan Razafindratandra, former archbishop of Antananarivo, Madagascar died, aged 84.

Cardinal Urbano Navarrete Cortés, of S.J., has died on November 22, aged 90.

Cardinal Tomáš Špidlík, a famous theologian, philosopher and writer, died on April 17, aged 90.

Should be here. My comment was suggesting that, if the Cardinals are feeling the strain, how must the elderly Pope be feeling. Thus it may qualify for this thread...no? Oh well - worth a try... Ah okay. Thought it worthwhile information enough to be posted in the cardinals' tread. It's so rare to have an ailing elector cardinal (under 80 years and able to elect and be elected).

Joseph Serge Miot, the archbishop of Port-au-Prince, has been killed in the Haiti earthquake. He was 63.

He has probably been mentioned elsewhere, but what about the Pope's pal, Roger Etchegaray, the French Cardinal who fell and broke his hip when Joe was attacked. He was supposed to be in frail health before the fall and subsequent surgery. He turns 88 next year (God willing).... Cardinal Daly has long been reported ill, even his Wikipedia article mentions his ill health. Well, he's 92 and it's surprising how he's managed to live that long. Cardinal Etchegaray was reported to be okay after the fall (sorry, the link is in Italian). It says, In the morning, Cardinal Roger Etchegaray, admitted to the University Hospital "Agostino Gemelli" in Rome for the fracture of neck of right femur, was operated for total hip arthroplasty. The surgery was successful and the patient's clinical condition is good. As planned, the cardinal will spend the next phases after the intervention in the intensive care unit.

Definitely not the destination for medical tourism.
