Good list. Obviously, the two big names (from a Yankee perspective) that everybody's looking out for this year in terms of counting down to their deaths are Aretha Franklin and Michael Douglas. The tabloids will be all over them with the inevitable "Last days" stories. Douglas and Franklin will be this year what Swayze and Fawcett were in 2009. EDIT: I think we will probably be seeing Dick Cheney too in the tabloids more than a few times, particularly with those teaser "LAST DAYS" articles.

In the good ol' US of A, Mark Madoff's death actually received more media coverage than Leslie Nielsen's passing!!!!!! You would think that Mark Madoff was you know, actually a real celebrity. Of course he ain't!!!

I'm glad to hear that despite the fact I don't even live in the same country as you, I have the ability to get under your skin. I am also glad that despite the fact I don't even know who the hell you are, I am of some significance to you. B/c quite frankly, if you were to die, I wouldn't give a crap b/c you are not worth my spit. I really don't understand this notion or obsession with most significant death. Surely it is relative. For example, if Michael Douglas were to die, it would personally have no effect on my life. If the lowly character of BCAlum2000 were to die however, that would be more significant to my life because he would no longer be around to do my tits in by constantly going on about the 'most significant' death of the year.

IF by any chance Michael Douglas DOES die this year....could he possibly be the most significant death of 2010?!?!?!? Wow...just goes to show how slow this year has been for celebrity deaths if that's the case. OF course, it's very wild speculation. Obviously, somebody much more famous than Michael could die this year, and there's a very good chance Michael could survive his stage 4 throat cancer, but I just find it particularly interesting if by years' end, if Douglas does die, he's actually a strong contender for most significant celebrity death of this year.

Tony Curtis has been in declining health for the past few years. He's definitely another major celebrity that should be on everybody's death watch for this year and the next couple (if he survives this year).

Hollywood superstar Michael Douglas should definitely be on next year's list. Some speculate he could die as early as this year, given his grim diagnosis of stage 4 throat cancer. Right now, Douglas is the one major celebrity who's pretty much on every tabloid's death watch. For the past couple years, we had the likes of Patrick Swayze, Farrah Fawcett, and Dennis Hopper whom everybody in tabloid media was counting down to their deaths. Now...Douglas is the one.

Hi y'all, everybody's favorite BCAlum2000 is back w/ a vengeance after a long hiatus... Trying to start a debate here, and hopefully people won't be slinging too much shit towards me about this topic. The issue is whether 2010 is on track to be the slowest year for celebrity deaths. I would say yes. The last time we had a really slow year for celebrity deaths was back in 2000. Now 2010 is turning out to be a pretty good year if you think about it. The economy is recovering, more people are getting jobs, the BP oil spill may not be an environmental disaster anymore and I'd go so far as to say that BP's reputation may go up b/c others will see that BP "handled" the crisis well, and not too many celebrities are dying. Maybe I will jinx it after all and there may be a "fall blitz" of sorts w/ celebrities dying en masse w/n the next few months, but it seems like if we keep this pace up, 2010 may turn out to be a good year for celebrities NOT dying. Do you agree w/ me? Or maybe we are spoiled b/c of the past couple of years (2008 and 2009) we've seen a deluge of celebrity deaths? (Don't forget about everybody was commenting that 2009 was the "summer of death" b/c of so many celebrities dying last summer?)

I think former Vice President of the United States of America, Dick Cheney, should be included in 2011's deathlist due to recent health issues.

I'm nominating the Devil himself, aka Dick Cheney to be on 2011's deathlist. He's had heart issues lately and is still hospitalized.

Heh. Of the celebrity death prediction list, the only one I'm certain who won't make it is Zsa Zsa Gabor. Despite all the media attention she's receiving right now, I think she's barely clinging on to life. She's not gonna make it. She's 93 years old and in poor health for Christsake! I've heard rumblings about Dick Clark possibly not making it this year also, but I dunno. I actually do have Dick Cheney's name on my 2011 list... There may be a "shocking" celebrity death or two this year. After all, last year, nobody expected Natasha Richardson, Brittany Murphy, and Stephen Gately to die suddenly last year. ("Some" people kinda predicted that Michael Jackson and DJ AM would die.) I think in terms of "shocking" celebrity death, I dunno. We already had two this year (Corey Haim and Gary Coleman). Some have speculated that maybe Mel Gibson will die this year b/c of the crap he's enduring. I don't think so. But you never know. I still think Lindsay Lohan is the possible "shocking" celebrity death we've been waiting for. Of course, Amy Winehouse is not out of the woods yet either.

LOL I have no effin clue who this "Gilly" fella is, so I'd say...no. BUT...if Lindsay Lohan died this year, then I guess you could make that argument. Anyway, I think a big reason why things are so slow is that the three "big" celebrities I expected to die this year (Bret Michaels, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Lindsay Lohan) are still alive. Can't stand Zsa Zsa Gabor and Lindsay Lohan in particular and kinda hoping they kick the bucket. (I know, sounds mean, but Zsa Zsa is 93 years old and is in financial straits so death may not be such a bad thing for her. Plus Lohan is already washed up and while her few remaining fans are rooting for her to pull a Robert Downey Jr.-style comeback, she's burned her bridges in Hollywood.)

Funny enough, I'm doing pretty well individually. I have 5 of 20 hits so far. Though I think you guys easily missed the boat with Dio, Rubinstein, and Byrd. That's 3 more hits there. You guys could've had up to 6 already. Heck, you guys could've had up to 8 w/ Steinbrenner and John Wooden, though those two probably aren't particularly well known in the UK, I guess.

Dennis Hopper easily trumps Lena Horne as the most significant celebrity death of 2010... RIP to an acting legend from Easy Rider to Blue Velvet to Super Mario Bros. OK, I will go back to hiding in my little corner of the world... Bye bye.

I find it was quite rude of her not to let BC Alum know first, I mean he'll never get those three hours back. Imagine what he could have done in three hours? Answers on a humorous postcard honez... Ahhhh, I like Dennis Hopper! Will definitely be a major loss if he passes away and judging from what I've read (yes, I know it's TMZ and all...), he doesn't have much time to live. But then again, both you and I know that. He's definitely the one "major" celebrity who seems to be on everybody's death watch this year (much like Swayze, Farrah, and Ted Kennedy were last year and Sydney Pollack and Paul Newman the year before).

+1 (sorta) I think that Michael Jackson impacted a lot more people than Pope John Paul II. He certainly made an impression on me. Honestly, when Pope John Paul II passed away, while I cannot deny his significance, it did not affect me on a personal level nearly as much. To put it in perspective, Paul Newman's death affected me much more than Pope John Paul II's passing.

For your consideration, I submit the following two names: Burt Reynolds - had major heart surgery, is addicted to painkillers, probably not in very good health. I think he may die as soon as this year. Penny Marshall - supposedly on the verge of death due to a brain tumor. at least that's what the Enquirer alleges...

Yeah because we all know who that is.... Seriously, I'd put Roy E. Disney as the most significant death of this month. And I think his death would be hard to top, unless someone like Elizabeth Taylor died. Well, Brittany Murphy died last December so I'd say that her death definitely tops Roy E. Disney's. For January 2010, most significant death so far (by far) is J.D. Salinger. Awfully bloody slow start so far, but things seem to be picking up a bit w/ the passings of J.D. Salinger, Jean Simmons, Zelda Rubinstein, and Howard Zinn within the past week or two. I wouldnt be suprised if you were masturbating when you typed that out, such is your desire for people to die. I think most of us who go to these sites feel that way. At least I'm a bit more frank about it. Honestly, there are only certain celebs I desire to die, such as Fidel Castro, Rush Limbaugh, Karl Rove, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and others I won't name. And honestly, I would be happy as heck if people like Dennis hopper can beat their diseases.

What a looker! Zsa-Zsa won't go break-dancing any time soon but seems good for another 5 years - her family seem remarkably long-lived. She's one of those celebs that everybody is waiting on to die. She's had a shitload of health problems and has been on the brink of death in recent years more times than she can count. But yeah, she's been one of the bigger death teases. She could live till 100 for all we know!
