Of the 50, or entirely? Of the 50, I am at a loss to describe Sinead O'Connor's popularity. Suicide is too risky to take a punt on (see the continued breathing of so many in that category) and if we were going unstable Irish, I would assume Shane McGowan was right there. Entirely, it would be hard to beat the inclusions of Mick McManus and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. They didn't qualify, both because not enough people voted for them, and due to the unfortunate ability of having died a few years ago. That's what happens when you blindly write down people from the "People with Alzheimer's" category on Wikipedia to pad out your list...

Same. At least he wouldn't have been unique...

Nothing in the media yet, but Alex Rocco, Moe Green in The Godfather and Roger Meyers, Jr. on The Simpsons, has died aged 79 according to his daughter on Facebook.

Sorry but how does one unsuccessfully shoot themselves in the head? Either they hit the target or they didn't. SC He shot himself in the head but didn't inflict a fatal wound. It's fairly simple to deduce. that's what he meant but didn't say On a point of pedantry he was successful in shooting himself in the head. I have to go with SC on this one. Did I just say that? I did consider editing it so it made better sense, but couldn't really be bothered. At least this way it got far more attention that it would have otherwise...

Just over three years after unsuccessfully shooting himself in the head, actor Daniel von Bargen has died from complicatons of diabetes. Played a bunch of military/cop types in many films and shows; Commandant Spangler in Malcolm in the Middle probably his most famous.

Top work as ever TMIB. Gonna be hard pressed to get close to the Top 10 this year. Some stupid misses already and many more to come... A few 'ill under-the-radar despite being notable' choice picks: Chuck Blazer (selected by DDT) who is "gravely ill" with colon cancer and Frank Miller (selected by Bert Trautmann) who's putting on his best Steve Jobs.

Basically a repeat of two years ago with Rubin Carter. Similar search terms or something.

I left off Lauren Hill because I didn't think she will get the obit, but I have a feeling I'll be wrong now... I dropped Clive James and Valerie Harper but retained basically everyone else. Three I very strongly considered: Peter Brabeck-Letmathe - F1 Chairman, standing down due to "curable" ill health, but apparently still retaining some power so... Xu Caihou - Chinese general who escaped a corruption trial with apparent terminal cancer; got too many terminal criminals so he got left off. Miriam Defensor Santiago - former ICC judge, has lung cancer, but apparently doing well and running for President of the Philippines

Is Bradford in Scotland?

Just watched the Match of the Day 50th anniversary show... -Unsurprisingly, the Jimmy Hill interviews were all re-used from 10 years ago. -Des Lynam looked and sounded really frail.

I dropped him this year, so obviously... Dead Wouldn't have a been a unique, but still, some points lost if he gets an obit... He does...

When you say 'Californian desert', you mean Death Valley, right? Yah. It didn't say he was specifically found in Death Valley though, so I didn't want to go all Guest and say that anyway.

Dave Legeno, boxer, MMA fighter and actor, found dead in the Californian desert, aged 50. He was in the final three Harry Potter films as the werewolf Greyback, amongst a fair few 'heavy'-type roles.

Thanks for all you hard work TMIB, including the site re-design. You've done a grand old job and will be missed.

Minority jazz musician and left-wing social activist, I thought, equalled textbook Guardian coverage. But that's looking pretty unlikely now. Or not! Guardian obit
