It's taken all day for the Nigerian media to retract the news of his death, why? Presumably they'd been waiting for school to finish so the children can run on the hamster wheel in the back room that powers the modem.

    Joe Biden

Yeah but nobody on here whines like a little bitch when you criticise Trump. That's the key difference.

You're not allowed to come on DL Forums and criticise Sleepy Joe. Don't you dare. His opponent is Orange Man. Orange Man bad. Orange Man baaaaaad.

How is dying from a heart attack aged 66 whilst awake and still active better than peacefully slipping away in your sleep aged 85?

    Political Frailty

In 2015 I learnt the names and constituencies on all 650 MPs, which proved rather useful for my line of work. So short have the subsequent parliaments been and so great the turnover of old > new members that all that memorising became redundant quite quickly! I can't even begin to imagine learning the names of 780+ members of the House of Lords. Think I know about 300 or so, but not through trying!

Never heard of this lady before, but she certainly never held back. "it is pointless for the Conservatives to chase Muslim votes. They are all on benefits and all vote Labour". Imagine if she had been white and said that!

Pretty certain this all belongs in the political rants thread. Nothing to do with by-elections.

    Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists

That's absolutely ridiculous. So much hard work has gone into that site and because of a disagreement with the IOC, it will no longer be updated. Something similar happened to the old Sports Reference site. Now there's no live database. Is it really that difficult for a group of ppl to get their shit together?

People Who Are Dead According To Wikipedia...

I emailed the Guardian and they’re not interested in writing an obit. Not notable enough apparently. I beg to differ. I haven’t been able to find a single mention on Twitter or Facebook. I didn’t see anything in the Probate Search. I believe he’s dead but sadly there’s nothing to go off of and I don’t know who else to contact.

    Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists

So, what's happened to Olympedia? Hasn't been updated since December. I notice that the Oldest Olympians Facebook page has stopped linking to it and instead directs people to a different website that looks to be accessible by member login only (but with no option to sign up). Pretty shit if Olympedia has been abandoned as a project or they've chosen to monetise it as it will mean many Olympian Wiki pages will become neglected.

Death record from MatchID. A quick scroll through his Wiki page would have told you he lived in France.

    Michael J Fox

It's pre-recorded and they played the whole interview this morning on the BBC News channel. Looks about the same. Lots of uncontrollable twitching but otherwise hasn't really aged, isn't losing weight. Likely has at least another 5–15 years unless some kind of complication results.

@The Old Crem, was there really a need to quote the entire post, including the large group photo?

Time to revive this Dad's Army reunion photo from 2008 (the year I joined DL!) and see who's still about. Standing (l to r) Frank Williams – died in 2022 aged 90 Ian Lavender – died of unnatural causes in 2024 aged 77 (@YoungWillz pushed him down the stairs) Clive Dunn – died in 2012 aged 92 Jeffrey Holland – still alive and turning 78 in July Harold Snoad (one of three directors) – still alive and turning 89 in August David Croft (co-writer and one of three directors) – died in 2011 aged 89 Donald Hewlett – died in 2011 aged 90 Eric Longworth – died in August 2008 aged 90 (one month after this photo was taken!) Jimmy Perry (creator and co-writer) – died in 2016 aged 93 Seated (l to r) Bill Pertwee – died in 2013 aged 86 Pamela Cundell – died in 2015 aged 95 Holland only appeared in one episode as a soldier and as far as I know Donald Hewlett played no part in the show, but I imagine both were invited as they were regular Croft/Perry contributors... and who doesn't fancy a day out at Imperial War Museum? Not present at the 2008 reunion but still living at the time: John Ringham – died in 2008 aged 80 Bob Spiers (one of three directors) – died in 2008 aged 63 Wendy Richard – died in 2009 aged 65 Colin Bean – died in 2009 aged 83 Stuart Sherwin – died in 2015 aged 87 Gordon Peters – died in 2022 aged 95 Caroline Dowdeswell – still alive and turning 79 in March Michael Knowles – still alive and turning 87 in April (attending a later Dad's Army event in 2011)

Busy facepalming everyone. He doesn't seem to understand that function isn't supposed to be used every time you merely disagree with someone else's opinion.

South Park notably took the piss out of country stars that capitalise on peoples' emotions with opportunistic patriotic songs. Their target was Alan Jackson though. You could probably throw Lee Greenwood into the same category too.

    Derby Dead Pool 2024

Re: Lavender... the Guardian, Times and Telegraph have all published obits for him now. None hint at a cause of death. However, the fact that they were all published in full by last night would suggest they were compiled prior to his death. What is telling is his IMDb profile. Last role was a voice casting, released in 2023, but could have easily been recorded 2021/22. Last appearance in person was in a Dad's Army related programme in 2020. He was very active prior to lockdown. All of this would suggest he wasn't a well man and that the obit writers were aware of this. In other words, I'm calling bs on any rumours about unnatural causes.

The only significant ones I'd say. Though Lavender was the last from the primary cast.
