This is a strange one. The only person in the GRO I see that he could be is Geraint W Hughes b. 1954 in Bangor. But that's at the other side of Wales! I will put c. 1953 for now. Cheers!

Thoughts and Opinions on the 2020 List

Eileen Ash played women's Test cricket back when the women's version of the sport was largely unobserved and amateur in all but name. ... And she's only known nowadays for her extreme age. The Committee doesn't pick low hanging fruit i.e. ppl of extreme age, known almost only for their extreme age. That isn't the purpose of DL and it would suck all the "fun" out of it. My understanding is the idea is to pick 50 names that are considered "household names" (at least in the UK)... with some notable exceptions ofc (Ruby Muhammad, Bill Gates Sr.) but let's not get wound up with that...

Nothing since 2005. So all evidence would suggest, yes, Rose West's mum is still alive.

    Bobby Charlton

I doubt he has that long. He's been out of the spotlight for ages. Missed his own brother's funeral. I think he was diagnosed a while back and that the family have more or less been forced to reveal the diagnosis due to the death of 4 of his '66 teammates this year and his repeated absence/silence. The tabloids were probably trying to get in touch persistently.

He's dead, that much is known. The Internet tends to suggest he killed himself and nobody seems to be disputing that. What is contentious is where and when he died. London is given as the place. 1990 is the most commonly used year, and yet it's wrong. His death was already known by 1986. Some interesting conversation here. He had that huge stroke in 2012 and has looked progressively worse every year. I reckon he’ll go in 2021 and would support his inclusion on next year’s list. If other members agree then speak up now or you can’t complain when the Committee inevitably ignores us and he dies as a miss.

    Silent Era People

Wow, great find. I can't seem to find anything on him either. It's been years since a new silent film actor was discovered living or recently deceased. Not at all surprising, given that many children had uncredited roles in silent-era movies. There may be some more out there yet that we don't know about. I'm going to bring it up at the NitrateVille silent movie forum and see if anyone can make sense of it and verify it. Likely a genuine account, though there was a time when it was fashionable for fantasists and talltale tellers to use the "I used to be in the silent movies/Our Gang films/the Mickey Mouse Club" line.

That's a massive miss. One of my favourite actors. Met him once in London City Airport when I was a kid. He gave me my autograph and was really pleasant, which was somewhat of a relief given that he didn't have the best reputation for dealing with fans. Can't say I always approved of him as a person. The allegations of abuse against his first wife and his tax evasion left a lot of people frowning, but as an actor, nobody can dispute he was truly amazing.
