    Lucía Hiriart (1922-2021)

    Se murio la vieja!

    image.jpeg.0cb5098ae5315f96eae382f433ba6ffc.jpeg

    Age at death: 99

Known health issues: Hospitalized after a serious fall in 2018, in and out of hospital for respiratory complications in recents year, on oxygen in December 2020, last hospitalised twice this summer.

    Cause of death: Respiratory failure.

Alignment: The biggest cunt ever produced by Chile, probably even more asshole than her husband. Chile had something to celebrate this week, and it ain't the elections.

Some new info out on her. According to her death certificate, and her newly released Times obituary, Hiriart was born in 1923, and was 98 at the time of her death.

Cause of death is given as "heart failure". She had a heart! Who knew?!

Updated the list. 82, a grand old age for a bodybuilder and it's even more impressive is how last year he survived a fall followed by a massive heart attack, spent days on ventilator, got a pacemaker and contracted covid in a rehabilitation facility but survived all of this. In addition to winning 15 professional bodybuilding titles he was known for being one of the first gay bodybuilders, the first African-American AAU Mr. America and of course the first gay Mr. Olympia.

That's just not true. They get considerably older than 82. Jack Lalanne (died at 96) and Bill Pearl (living, 91) being just two examples off the top of my head. It's the ones who abused steroids who don't get to old ages. Bodybuilding, in its natural form, is one of the healthiest things you can ever do for your body as you're working every single muscle in the body, including the ones that are often neglected. Not exercising muscle groups leads to immobility and muscle failure as you age.

  3. Twitter reporting the death of Keith Rae (wiki), 104, who has been the oldest living Aussie rules footballer since 2017.

More interestingly, he served in the Royal Australian Navy during WWII, and was onboard the HMAS Nestor when it was attacked and sunk by Italian bombers near Crete in 1942.

Jack B. Weinstein (wiki) dead at 99 (EU blocked).

Was the oldest living federal judge in the U.S.

That accolade now goes to Joseph Wilson Morris (wiki), also 99.

Notably, his death leaves just one federal judge alive who was appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson. That's Walter Nixon (wiki), 92, who was eventually impeached and removed from office.

Joseph Wilson Morris dead at 99.

Oldest living federal judge in the U.S. is now James L. Buckley (wiki), 98, who is also the oldest living Senator.

Not so bad a "msc needs to take his own tips seriously" fail as my mention of her being frail on Netflix was actually in early 2018.

Weirdly looking it up, Spade offered another person looking frail on Netflix as a reply (Sylvia Weinstock) and it turns out she died less than a month ago. Ideas thread quirk of fate!

It would be really useful if someone compiled a list of all the names ever mentioned in the Ideas and Possibilities threads who are still living.

Not me though. I'm bored of writing lists for now. Someone else can do it. :D

Maybe this will start WW3. WW3 has got to happen sometime I suspect.

The general theory within IR is that it won’t, because too many countries have nuclear capabilities now.

  8. Who needs to be added to the total?

    Arthur Smith
    Leslie Brown
    Sally Ann Howes
    Jack Hedley
Thomas Kinsella (hasn't got one yet but he's a dead cert QO within the next 24 hours)

    Anyone else?

The total stands at 261 (266 if you add the 5 above). The record is 278. 12 needed. 9 days remaining...

Wonder will we get a big death in the next few days (push notification from BBC News/Sky News etc. worthy )

There always seems to be a biggish name death in and around Christmas

Didn't we have this conversation last year and come to the conclusion (by looking at the select few big names who had died on 24–26 Dec over 30-40 years) that it was a bit of an urban myth?

Wasn't quite sure where to put this, but thought we were overdue a masterlist for British television actors so went through a list of UK TV shows of the 60s–90s earlier and singled out all the actors turning 90+ in 2021. Vast majority of these names will obit for sure:

    *snip*
Jack Hedley (wiki, b. 1930) Colditz; Who Pays the Ferryman?; One by One

Hmm.. is this a death notice for the Jack Hedley in today's Times?

Two problems – to our knowledge, Hedley was born in 1930 (so he'd be 91, not 92). Also, Jack Hedley was born as "Jack Hawkins" in Fulham, London in 1930 according to the birth index. He changed his name to Jack Hedley to avoid confusion with existing actor Jack Hawkins (1910–1973), but did he change it legally as well? Can't account for where "Snowdon" comes from. No middle name given on his birth record.

  12. I've updated the above post to include a list of those featured.

My verdict is the same as always – excellent, though I wasn't feeling the music as much this year.

They didn't include André Maranne, Gloria Henry, or any of the big Hollywood stuntmen who died this year (Rémy Julienne, Chuck Hicks and Bob Herron), but they included 92 names overall, which is a stellar effort, so I shouldn't complain.

Obviously there are some which haven't been mentioned as they played on the records, but haven't been included in the headline act on the list. For example, Mike Peters, bassist with the John Barry Seven. Problem with some of them is nailing down a line-up.

Amazed you remain so cheerful with what I would eventually term a millstone - "Ye gods, there's another one dead!" :D

There were 110 names on the 2020 list. Just 71 names on the one above. I'm going to have to Google through the acts when I get an opportunity in the new year and have a proper dig on social media, because it seems to me that we've no doubt missed a few off radar types.
