    Christopher Hitchens still well enough to write interminably long article for Vanity Fair about how terminally ill he is.

    Speaking of which, how come he's already written an article next month? That Vanity Fair article's dated January 2012. Would it have the racing results in there? Or the lottery numbers ....

     

    At least we know he's definitely still going to be alive to put on the 2012 list.

    quite apart from referring to movies. Ken Russell made films.

    "Movies" does sound rather an ancient term, as though it might have described what came before "talkies".

     

    Anyway, I'm off to take the dog for his walkies. :evil2:

     

    It's not pedantry, rather a protest against the way our language is becoming permeated by so many Americanisms. I have relatives who say that something they like is "to die for." That's vomit-inducing. It's like calling biscuits, cookies and sweets, candies. That's fine in America, but citizens of the UK who do that should be dragged in to the street and executed in front of their families.

    To talk about gary Speed in this thread is highly disrespectful at such a tragic time. He should have his own thread surely!

     

    I had never heard of him until today. Looking at his stats he doesn't appear to be anything special.

     

    Besides, this time tomorrow he'll probably be exposed as a paedo of something...

     

    He is Wales' most capped outfield player of all time. Not sure how impressive that really is...

    Mrs MPFC and myself rented 127 Hours last weekend, imagine our disappointment when - despite the lavish promise of the front cover - the whole thing ended after barely 90 minutes. It had some gripping moments but was only half as gripping by the end.

     

    I went to see 19001, which isn't 100 years long, but it's length (317 minutes) makes it quite a feat to complete. For the spectator, that is.

     

    1Not quite recently. Must've been 20 years ago.

    25 years on and only the following from the original DL have not died *:

    1. Clive Dunn
    2. Andrea de Cesaris
    3. Anna Wing
    4. Ozzy Osbourne

    * I count "any one Beatle" (i.e. George Harrison) as having died since then. Although I know this could be construed the other way around i.e. that "any one Beatle" (or even two) are still alive.
