Cricket Thread. Only Mad Dogs And Englishmen

I've been timid to reply as of late... You guys bash me most of the time and I'm an Aussie (although I do hold British citizenship). You might have the Ashes and you might have an undeserved sense of accomplishment, but we have nicer beaches. Score one to Australia. P.S. I'm an AFL man anyway.

    Gen Y

Okay! hopefully this idea has not already been taken by you guys, so here goes. I was viewing the list of deaths on Wikipedia (yes I know) when I noticed that beautiful Miss Swaziland Tiffany Simelane, born in 1988, had committed suicide. So I thought to myself a thread on deathlist.net generation "Y" may be a good idea. The notion of people who are born on or after 1980, being cut down in their prime might appeal to some of the those on the forum. Other Gen Y's to die this month are: Fijian rugby union player Jone Railomo Taginayavusa (28) Spanish football player Daniel Jarque González (26) Both died on the 8-Aug-2009. Ukrainian cyclist Oleksandr Shapoval (19) died on the 12-Aug-2009. American basketball player Lavelle Felton (29) died on 13-Aug-2009. Others are welcome.

    Drunk? Bored?? Psychopath???

G'Day Lardy. In my experience moderate drinking may "boost bones" but excessive drinking impairs my judgment enough to get a "rash on my bone" redder than your avatar. God it was horrible.

    Interesting Ways To Die...

Veteran horse trainer Pat Quin was killed today after being crushed in the stalls by the horse he was tending to. The horse's name...INSENSITIVE.

    The Dead Of 2009

Its a little sad to see a player of Fitzroy's last premiership team go the way of the club itself, I don't know about the other resident Australians but I'm not a fan of the Lions.

    Hooroo, Mate.

Yes clearly we have nothing better to do down here. My prediction is that the Kookaburra will have the last laugh, as per usual. For anyone wanting to compare the two songs here is the classic Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree.

    World War I Veteran(s)

Harry certainly made it clear that he wouldn't want one. Don't recall Henry saying anything, but I doubt he'd have wanted it either. These men didn't think of themselves as special. Plus the fact that he was born in Britain and lived in Britain for many years before emigrating. Why wouldn't he be considered British? "We've won the WWI Vets Survival Challenge. Claude's disqualified for batting for both sides. As it were." If it wasn't so morbid it would be almost comical, TAFKAG posted this way back on the 3rd of June and this portion of the post (the bit in bold) went uncontested by the rest of the forumers. Now with the tragic passing of the two remaining British WWI service men, Claude all of a sudden becomes British. To claim that he is solely British denies his WWII exploits with the Australian Royal Navy, he fought for this country as well. As the title of this Article suggests Claude is "the last Briton standing" that much is true. However the article also mentions that he came to Australia in 1926 (he has lived here most of his 108 years) and loves the Australian way of life, should this not be grounds for stating that he is both Australian and British? It is a possibility. This was my reasoning when I posted that he should be recognized as the last remaining Commonwealth veteran as the Canadian fellow currently lives in the U.S. P.S. please don't make me do this too often.

We could always say that he represents the last veteran of the British commonwealth.

I work for a crappy corporation and the last word of the acronym for their name is 'Solutions'. I work for a crappy corporation that claims to sell "solutions." I work for a crappy corporation, that requires the services of crappy corporations that claim to sell solutions, specifically because of the excellent problems I create. You don't work for Connex, the company operating the Melbourne metro train network, do you?

    Ronnie Biggs

You think he is the only one? Anybody would think this country wasnt a sh*t hole and a laughing stock.......... So much for the stiff (no pun intended) upper lip of the British. Now, probably via catheter, the country is taking the p!ss out of him.

G'day to all. It could be worse... It could have been this guy.

G'Day everyone. Australian war hero Edward Kenna VC died last night aged 90. Lest we forget.

    Deathlist Dreaming

G'Day Dreamers. The recent (and undoubtedly welcome) absence of my posts have been due to my recent surfing holiday up the New South Wales coast. Myself and a few friends were leap-frogging our way from beach to beach (via car) in an awesome week of surfing and camping at various beaches. On the night of July 2nd, after an intense and exhausting day of surfing we drank a portion of our large supply of booze. Pissed as farts, my girlfriend and I bedded down for the night in my swag. My ensuing dream involved the DL and has thus far been the only one concerning this forum. I WAS NUMBER 15 ON THE LIST, the other names were blurred and the vision slowly came closer and closer and got bigger and bigger in my eye shot. Corresponding with this movement was a series of sharp noises which, as I jolted awake, turned out to be the waves crashing. Hopefully this is just DL withdrawal and not something of a more sinister nature. The next morning I did not enter the water using the "I'm too hungover" excuse. I lasted until just after lunch. Being away for so long with no access to a computer, TV, or any other form of media, choosing to use CD's over the car radio, we had no idea that Micheal Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Karl Malden, Victor Smorgon, Mollie Sugden etc. had passed, until we returned of Victoria.

Hey honez. Maybe we could start with "Fair shake of the sauce bottle, Kev..." or do we really want to follow the lead of a guy who makes no sense when he speaks both formally or in slag? I mean slang?

Are you well hanged? Walked right into that one... So well "hung" I hanged myself with it. I also have a large ego.

    Significant Others

Good day to everyone. People who mispronounce the simple three letter word "ASK", replacing it with either "arks" or "axe", eat your heart out Dougie Hawkins. Also people who say "hung" instead of "hanged" and people who can't distinguish between "its" and "it's".

    Fat And Fearless

Dammit you guys have thought of everything! I'm tempted to start a thread that is dedicated to all the micro-organisms that die every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week etc. stretching back to the dawn of time. PS. I think we all left political correctness at the door when we joined this websight.

    Fat And Fearless

G'day Forum. Unless one already exists, I would like to dedicate a thread to the fattest people on earth. We have threads for the elderly, politicians, actors, religious figures etc. why not for the fattest as well? Super morbidly obese (or fat) people do appear to have a high mortality rate so they do fit within the context of this website. To begin I'd like to start with Manuel Uribe (42) of Mexico who weighs in as the 2008 Worlds Fattest Man, according to Guinness world records, at 570 kilos (or 1,257 pounds, for those of you still stuck in the middle ages) If any others want to contribute you are welcome, Enjoy!

    The Ones That Got Away...

G'Day all. I Hope that the other Australians on the forum will agree with me when I say (write) that remaining Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels of WWII should be recognized on this thread. Most of the Britishers probably don't know what I'm on about so here is a link here to help explain it. They contributed to the Australian war effort in the South Pacific in a crucial way helping to halt the Japanese overland invasion Of P.N.G. A fact which has only recently been acknowledged by the government as of April this year. Old news I know but I'm rarely up to date at the best of times!. The oldest surviving Fuzzy Wuzzy Angel is Oviri Ondeki (102)

I'd hardly call Malcolm Fraser's Wool Shed an Australian landmark. Things must be pretty quiet out Nareen way. G'Day honez. Well everywhere needs a landmark of some kind and it is a very nice looking wool shed.

    World War I Veteran(s)

No. There are still hundreds of survivors in each participating nation. Fair enough. My topic-initiating total shall remain resolutely at 1. G'day deathlisters. Maybe we could start a thread about one of the conflicts in between the World Wars, Spanish Civil war perhaps? Yes, that was the idea behind this thread - to mop up those surviving various conflicts, actions, disasters etc from times past that, realistically, are not on their own (unlike the Titanic for example) going to stimulate a lengthy discussion. There has already been some mention somehwere of that dodgy Wikipedia entry with its limited number of Spaniards. Sometimes it's a fine call between an exclusive and a collective thread and were we to have many Spanish forum members it might be merited. Anyway it's something you might chat about with the other 43 body snatchers. I mean it's not as if they are Munchkins, is it? I should add there that I mean Spaniards, not body snatchers although some Munchkins may be body snatchers and some, indeed may be Spaniards. There's an outside possibility, I suppose, of a Spanish Munchkin body snatcher (not you perchance?) and if anyone knows of one, he or she - that is the SMBS - probably deserves their own thread, or at least an appearance on Spain's Got Talent which I imagine would feature a lot of women with castanets, stamping their feet to Flamenco guitar. A flamenco-dancing Spanish Civil war veteran munchkin would be quite a draw. But his fame could make him vulnerable to kidnap. I can see the headline now in El Mundo, translated: Body snatching gang seize civil war veteran munchkin dancer - McCann connection suspected. ¿ Could our antihero also be a sombrero wearing ex-matedor with a connection to the Costa del Crime, grassy bott ? Damn I've been filter foiled, grassy a rse The disguise will fool no-one. Shitt they're onto me. Right you got me! Actually there are 50 Body Snatchers, I'm merely the bloke who combs these kind of forums in order to find information about potential "fresh ones" to pass on to the other 49. These 49 then go about what we call the "process" and thats how cadavers, organ "donations", limbs on the black market etc, proves to be a very lucrative business for us. For a while we branched into supplying animal parts - did you know that George Lopez has the kidney of a 12 year old Great Dane called Bootsie - we had to stop though because the pet cemetery was too spooky. But before you pass judgment on us we do pass on any surplus $$$ on to needy organizations like the Child Protection From Madonna Union. Also with regards to the Spanish, Munchkin, Spain's got talent contestant who served in the Civil War - You wouldn't happen to know my ex-girlfriend would you?

G'day Applecool Downunder. Great tribute to John Campbell Ross, as the last Australian WWI vet his passing marks the end of an era in Australian wartime history. Also did hear about the passing of Sir John Holland (94), the bloke whose engineering company built a lot of Australian landmarks from the Great Southern Stand at the MCG to a wool shed on Malcolm Fraser's Nareen property.
