It's 12 years since the death of actor Donald Hewlett, aged 90. He appeared in many staples of British TV (Coronation Street, The Saint, Doctor Who to name but three), predominantly as an upper-class official (he was born to a wealthy family, and his father was a conservative MP), but is particularly remembered for his roles in the Croft/Perry sitcoms It Ain't Half Hot, Mum, Come Back Mrs Noah and You Rang, M'Lord?, (alongside Michael Knowles in IAHHM and You Rang..., as well as the radio sitcom Anything Legal).

It's the 85th birthday of British filmmaker, historian and author Kevin Brownlow. Known for his books on the silent era of film-making and preservation of films of that era, he received a Honorary Academy Award in 2010 for his role in preserving motion picture history. He's also known for the film It Happened Here (1964), an alternative history presuming Hitler had invaded and conquered Britain post-Dunkirk, which he co-write and directed.

Even the BBC reported it, which is surprising considering their tardiness with other names (even where it has been verified by the family).

I'm currently reading this... Not bad. It's the sort of book I can read a chapter as and when, rather than immerse myself in it, so taking longer than I anticipated. In other book news, the 'to read' pile has broken the 50 title mark!
