Singer, DJ and activist Tom Robinson is 73 today. He initially became known with his eponymous band's single 2-4-6-8 Motorway (1977), which reached number 5 in the UK Chart (some of us are still waiting for Peter Powell to clean the steps of Broadcasting House with a toothbrush, which he said he would do if this didn't reach number 1). He became known as an activist, particularly for gay rights, and was active in the Rock Against Racism movement. TRB's second release was an EP, which included the anthemic Glad to be Gay, which naturally was banned by the BBC. Happy Pride Month to those that celebrate.

Alexander 'Alec' Borrie, one of the last survivors of 1 SAS, died 21st May, aged 98. Joined the army in 1942, volunteered for the SAS in 1944, despite not having any idea what the SAS was.

It's 8 years since the death of Scottish actor Jake D'Arcy, aged 69. A performer in many TV and film roles, he's most known for playing Phil Menzies, the football coach in Gregory's Girl, and Pete The Jakey in Still Game, as well as the role of Fud in BBC's Tutti Frutti.

I was there! He had water thrown over him and declared that he was here for good, which turned out to be until the next GE.

Sheffield Wednesday have announced the death of former physio Alan Smith, who famously saved Paul Warhurst when he 'swallowed his tongue' following a clash of heads in a UEFA Cup tie. He was also physio for the national team from 1986.
