  1. I thought there must be many a dark secret lurking within the collective membership of Deathlist, and I'm sure that many of you would welcome the opportunity to ease your troubled minds by sharing them here.

I would like to get the ball rolling with a revelation that will no doubt shock and disgust many of the UK based Deathlisters:

I have been known, on several occasions, to laugh at dinnerladies.

Please try not to think any less of me as a person as a result of this, and I hope that by starting this topic off on such a low note, it will encourage others to add their confessions. Well, it can't get any worse.

    Can it?

  2. Ignored...

Forgive my slow wittedness, but :)

    ...

I really really don't follow you. Really.

Can I suggest that you stop trying to read some meaning into the ramblings, and use the 'ignore' function instead? It's worked wonders for me, so I now only read the drivel posted by some of the members here when it's quoted by someone else. I'll leave you to work out which camp you fall into.

(If you haven't got me on 'ignore', that is)

  3. I have hated Oxford United since the early 80's, for very good reasons indeed.

As I recall it, this is because Oxford United's then owner, one Robert Maxwell, proposed merging the club with Reading. Why do you continue to hate the team rather than the ex-owner?

  4. I think that even the conventional mortgage is considered offensive in the world of Islam.

That's right. Usury is forbidden under Islamic law, so that's why several UK banks have come up with Islamic products recently to help devout Halibuts to buy houses whilst not falling foul of their mullahs. Something like the bank buys the house, and the customer buys it back in instalments and rents the rest of it in the meantime.

A swift step off-topic there, that I believe TLC would have been proud of!

  5. Continuing the theme, the use of 'literally', particularly in interviews with sportspeople, or commentators.

Eg "we literally ran them into the ground", or "he's literally sitting on the gearbox of the car in front".

  6. So, here I was, reading an article in New Scientist about whether the divide between the quantum and the classical worlds really exists, or whether such large multi-particle entities as Schrodinger's cat can actually be in 2 quantum states at the same time, when I see a reference to SQUIDs.

Fair livened up the article, I can tell you.

  7. How odd.

Not entirely sure why, but I always thought you were an American living in LA. Wonder where I got that idea from! :P

Oh God, no. I'm originally from cider-swilling Zummerzet. Not any more though. Never been to LA, and my last visit to America was quite enough for me not to want to repeat the experience.

  8. Hold your horses, I've already sent them for perusal and judgement in an unsolicited PM to the mystery judge of my choice.

If he replies soon, then we'll get a result. If not, we'll need to come up with something else.

Is this 'mystery judge' so mysterious that even he doesn't know who he is? Or have you been so busy moderating Star Crossed that you haven't had time to load up the biog of the grinning twunt that is the glorious leader of our proud nation? At this rate he'll have quit and been arrested before you get it up manage to load said biog.

  9.

Family names may or may not be affected. One example is footballer Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who is normally called 'Lange Jan' in Dutch.

    regards,

    Hein

MH - JVoH is of course one of the great footballing names of all time. It's too bad he doesn't have his full surname on his jersey, because then the club shop could charge all the kids who buy replica shirts a fortune in lettering.

One question though - why does his name have the English word "of" in the middle of it, if he's Dutch? Shouldn't it be "der" or something?

    This should help.
