    Paul Hunter

Dear Guest, I am sorry to hear about the death of Paul Sadley through some form of bowel cancer - it must have come as a terrible shock, occuring the same day as the death of Paul Hunter. We are not all uncaring, so please accept my condolences. Yours sincerely Teddy

    The Dead - 2007

Grenfell Jones - sad news, I am sure, for all the DL'ers who hail from Wales. As for this Jock, never heard of him....

    Ideas and possibilities for 2008

Surely a position that George Dubya should have filled

    Ken Russell

From the little I did see, Ken's need for a helping hand seemed more to do with hitting the vino a little too hard whilst waiting in the green room to be driven on - especially given his dire impersonation of the previous winner, Pete Bennett, and his Tourette's Syndrome

Even the local priests have doubts about his recovery....

    1. Jimmy Carter

Given that the position of Deputy Prime Minister is an appointed honorary position, rather than elected office, it does not necessarily follow that the person holding that post would automatically be invited to become Prime Minister. I think we will find when Tony Blair does visit the Queen to offer his resignation, she will not be on the phone to John Prescott asking him to form a government, even in the interim (not if she has any sense anyway!). It will be interesting to see if Gordon Brown, in the event of him being next Prime Minister, appoints a Deputy Prime Minister or even First Secretary of State.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2008

Although it may mention Clinton as President, he didn't have heart surgery until the end of 2004, so the list must have been created at some point after that.

My understanding of US politics (and after being told off once already, I am ready to stand corrected) is that after Bush and Cheney, next in line for President is the Speaker of the House, one Nancy Pelosi, who is a Democrat. The West Wing (US political TV show) had an episode where the Democratic President, Bartlett, stood down after his daughter was kidnapped, and the Republican Speaker became Acting-President. So, not outside the realms of possibilities that a Democrat could become President for the remaining years, but highly unlikely, and it would definately not be Carter. Not Exactly Famous...

He was actually only ever Parliamentary Under Secretary for Defence (RAF), not Defence Secretary. That job was occupied by Lord Carrington. Sorry to be a pedant...

On no he's not 'US officials have denied reports that former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein has been transferred to Iraqi custody, as speculation mounts about his execution.' Seems panto season is well and truly upon us

Not only that, but it was announced 22nd January 1972, whilst Nixon was President, and Agnew VP. Apparently, given Nixon's strong anti-abortion sentiments, the announcement was delayed until after Nixon's second inauguration on the 20th Jan 72. Incidently, 22nd January 72 was the day Lyndon Johnson, another ex-President, died. You guys on this board are woefully inaccurate in your facts. Richard Nixon's second term did not begin until January 20, 1973, since his re-election took place in November, 1972. Truman died 12/26/72 and Johnson died on Janaury 22, 1973. Mea Culpa - you are right, I am wrong. I should of course have said 1973, and not 1972

What really happened was the kids stole all the presents whilst 'Santa' was getting mouth to mouth, and realy meant 'where are the rest of the presents coming from?'

    Margaret Thatcher

It will pass over my dead body! I think one of the reasons that Australia is allowing the country to be invaded by Asians and other non whites from a non European background is so they will vote in favor of a republic! I would hope that anyone not born in Australia or of European heritage would be excluded from voting in any future poll (which should be decades away or hopefully NEVER!). I doubt the idea of second class citizenship will go down well with the Aussies. Hey, hasn't Math 6:24 something to say about serving two masters? Anyway, we'll see about The Republic aof Australia. Or not. It's Not My Problem. regards, Hein Well it is my problem because I am fighting against it and Asians and other non-whites invading Australia and upsetting the ethnic mix are not Aussies. The Queen is not my master, the Lord is and both crowns have the same monarch anyway. I think Xenon II has a very valid point. Let's let the original people decide, not all these johnny-come-lately immigrants. No Asains, no non-Europeans whites vote. But hey, why stop there? Let's go back in time (Xenon seems to like that!) Let us exclude all non-indiginous Australians. Let's ask the Aboriginies what their view is - and exclude all these immigrnants who think they can move to a country and decide what the people should think or do.
