Miriam Engleberg, author of the amusing tome "Cancer Made Me A Shallower Person" and other cancer comics, has died
-
He's bound to get a mention on the news purely because of the circumstances. but as for being "famous" I wouldn't say he qualifies on that aspect. He's got a 2-month stay of execution. I'll pencil him in for the DDP for 2007. I wonder what time of day executions are carried out in Pakistan? The time difference is +5GMT, so if Hussain gets hanged at nine o'clock at night local time, it will already be 2007 in the UK. (I think ) Would this qualify him for DDP points?

I suggest you think again. Ulufa'alu has made a full recovery from his emergency stay in hospital and resigned his post as finance minister on Monday over the Solomon Isle's links with Australia. You can add him on for the name, but don't expect him to die. That is a shame. Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah it is then.

Guests have been allowed to post since last Saturday morning - they just don't want to it would seem. Guest posting was suspended for a few days last week mainly due to the stupidity of a few in the Hunter thread. DWB Thanks DWB. The reason I asked was that I was amazed not a single ranter has dropped by, so I logged out and tried to post and got a message saying I didn't have permission. I don't know anything about computers at all, but has that "Allow Guests To Post" button definately been pressed?

Joining Russell Watson and Luciano Pavarotti on the opera sick list is Ruth Anne Swenson. She has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Are guests no longer allowed to post on DL? Is this a temporary thing or a more permanent arrangement? We should be told.

You are most likely to suffer a fatal heart attack between the hours of 8 and 9am. Don't know if this helps at all....

It does, but it was only announced on the BBC at 10.30 GMT today. I'm sure when out friend across the Atlantic wakes up, the scoreboard will be amended accordingly and four teams will be in joint first place. Two hits in four days, it took me nine months to get that far on the DDP! I have to say this is the most success I've had on any dead pool all year, I also score my first point on the WDP Drat, I've underestimated how much people in the UK give a damn about Ross Davidson... Teodoro Obiang Nguema better be damn prepared to cark it in the coming year. Anyhow, still a hit for me in the WDP and, more importantly for four of you, points in the CPDP. I'll do the full update and email once I get back from my afternoon class. Look on the bright side CP, your man in Pakistan has been given a new exectution date of November 1st. I think my Bali bomber is going to end up in second position in this particular race.

Bobby 'Hard As Nails' Robson, goes back to work. It will take more than lung cancer or a brain tumour to knock him off his perch.

I'm sure everybody here will be thrilled at the news that Jane Tomlinson has been voted "Woman Of The Year". An interesting article in The Independent also mentions that: "At one point, several downmarket newspapers dispatched reporters to follow up a tip that her illness wasn't terminal (they drew a blank). " According to this account, her cancer has spread to the liver. http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/this_brit...icle1879411.ece

Whilst I don't necessarily NOT believe you, Ross Davidson married Barbara Black last year (2005) - so Ross has not been married 10 yrs. If he has died, then I wouldn't expect instant news. However, it might be worth checking message boards & local news around Frinton, where RD lives, over the next few days. Yes the Frinton message board is seething with local gossip. I think Star Crossed would approve of the minimalist, non post whoring ethos which seems to prevail there.

92 years old today. He hasn't featured in the news recently, certainly one to keep an eye on for 2007.

This article is a bit of a bummer, it confirms that she in fact has cancer of the anus.

Excellent stuff. Lupe Velez (July 18, 1908 - December 13, 1944) Tempestuous Mexican actress with a brief career in musical comedy theater followed by a brief career in cinema. Made close to fifty movies in her lifetime, but none catapulted her to the superstardom she'd hoped for. Swallowed handful of sleeping pills. Left two poignant notes detailing tales of unrequited love and expectant motherhood. Yes, she's the one who wouldn't get an abortion because of "strong Catholic beliefs" but was happy to kill herself whilst pregnant, last time I checked the Catholic church wasn't too fond on suicide either. In China the penalty for attempted suicide used to be execution.

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2006

Find the most expensive thing for private sale on the internet. I found this rather nice motoryacht for a very reasonable £ 107,507,584. Can anyone beat this? -
This is the very first time I've ever been in the lead in a deadpool! I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Charles Taylor, the former Liberian dictator, currently awaiting trial for war crimes in The Hague, is experiencing deteriorating health according to this rather vague article. Slobodan Milosevic didn't enjoy life there either and died. I wonder if Charles Taylor might do the same?
-
Well I'll be damned. You learn a new thing everyday on this site.

Ayatollah Ali Meshkini, the leader of the Assembly of Experts in Iran, is reported in this article to be about to step down due to "rapidly deteriorating health" Meshkini is reportedly afflicted with an advanced form of cancer and has been undergoing chemotherapy for several months. He is described as "frail and emaciated" Dubious fame credentials, I know, but he should get a UK obit.

Benny says he's better now.

Bartholomew Ulufa'alu is going on my DDP next year. Anyone with a name as fantastic as that is deserving of more widespread recognition.

Not sure I'm with you here RA. Obiang is the President of Equatorial Guinea and Conte is the President of Guinea-Bissau, more commonly referred to as just Guinea, hence the "two Guineas" tag. Maybe we should add Bulent Ecevit on this this thead as well and call it "Two Guinea Fools and a Turkey"
