Yup Hugh Downs has died- he lived a good long life on 99 years! One of America's best newscasters, he also hosted the Today Show, a morning show, and he hosted a few quiz shows-

Since there is no designated successor, it's obvious that they would want to play their cards very close to their chest right now- we probably won't know anytyhing until they get their ducks in a row!

He's really doing well, considering. His voice always sounds a bit funny on Jeopardy, like he might have a cold- that could be a side effect of his chemo- but the doctor is very encouraging...... as of right now, I think he will survive until next year anyway- but one never knows, these things can turn on a dime!!! A lot of us certainly didn't think he would last this long!!! And sooner or later it will come back to bite him!

Sorry to see her go, she was a brilliant woman who overcame so much- NASA owes her a lot!

I would like to know whether he has small or oat cell cancer, which smokers get, or Adenocarcinoma or Large cell carcinoma, which are slow growing- the first one responds to chemo but grows very fast- the other kind grows very slowly but doesn't respond to chemo- either way his goose is cooked! But it might affect how long he has- I think this year or next year.

A sad end for a great guy- sad to see him taken off this way- a funny and intelligent actor and quiz show panelist

You can tell that he has already lost quite a bit of weight- he is definitely a very sick man- if he doesn't die this year I am sure it will be next year!

Maybe they are bringing it up now to downplay anything seriously wrong with Prince Philip- they might not be flying off to Canada if he was seriously ill. Of course at 98, something could happen to him any time, we all know that!

UTI's sometimes cause temporary forgetfulness in the elderly, kind of like dementia- in that case they would definitely put him in the hospital while he recovers- but at his age and with the things he's been going through it's also no surprise- plus who he is!!
