The flu can be a high-speed killer too, but would you say dead might be imminent when a celebrity has a cold? (Of course it might when he is a thousand years old, extremely frail, has some other terminal illness and so on... Go on, Biggs, it's you I'm talking about!)

He's as much a celebrity as is Paris Hilton, the late John Kennedy (jr.), Chelsea Clinton or Whatshername Osbourne (the ugly chick, can't be bothered to google her name). I suppose that all of them would qualify for a DL-nomination when their time is about to come due to their being related to an even more famous celebrity, and so would the Beckham-kid. But suffering from convulsions is not exactly an indicator that death is at hand, so we'd better rest this case for the next seventy or eighty years.

Why would anyone want to inherit this stinking, ruined cesspool of a planet with its whingeing, whining warmongering inhabitants. Just another Monty Python-lyric which seems to suit you today... (And well within the Death-theme, I'd say!) Some things in life are bad, They can really make you mad, Other things just make you swear and curse, When you're chewing life's gristle, Don't grumble, Give a whistle And this'll help things turn out for the best. And... Always look on the bright side of life. [whistle] Always look on the light side of life. [whistle] If life seems jolly rotten, There's something you've forgotten, And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing. When you're feeling in the dumps, Don't be silly chumps. Just purse your lips and whistle. That's the thing. And... Always look on the bright side of life. [whistle] Always look on the right side of life, [whistle] For life is quite absurd And death's the final word. You must always face the curtain with a bow. Forget about your sin. Give the audience a grin. Enjoy it. It's your last chance, anyhow. So,... Always look on the bright side of death, [whistle] Just before you draw your terminal breath. [whistle] Life's a piece of S**t, When you look at it. Life's a laugh and death's a joke it's true. You'll see it's all a show. Keep 'em laughing as you go. Just remember that the last laugh is on you. And... Always look on the bright side of life. Always look on the right side of life. [whistle]

Ideas and Possibilities for 2006

There's a 'search'-option in one of the trays above. Dick Cheney has been hotly debated for quite a long time. -
You don't happen to have a friend named 'Eileen', do you? No ill feeling towards Ronnie, but face it: the guy has lived like God in Brasil for 35 years! No-one forced him to come back, and whether he's too frail to remain in prison is for a judge to decide. And I'm sceptical about your religious statements. No DL'er would claim he's 'perfect' or 'without sin', but robbing a train and cleaving the driver's skull is not what I would consider an innocent, minor offence. My sins are of a completely different nature, that's for sure.

Are they a 'hip-hop' band or something? No, it's a politically incorrect way of saying: illegitimate children who suffer from a malady. I'm not sure about the relevance, though. It seems way off topic to discuss the fellows extramarital problems, doesn't it? -
Does it show? The German model (a purely ceremonial president and a Chancellor who is head of government) would do nicely in the Netherlands. Italy does it like that, too, but I don't think that's such a good example. regards, Hein Well, I consider myself a left-winger too, though not a republican. (The only member of the Socialist Party who's truly orangistic!) The system works perfectly well as it is, the royalist element make our national festivals far more interesting than a president would and we happen to have an outstanding monarch, who's taking her job very seriously and whose diplomatic skills benefit our foreign policy and the dutch economy to a great extent. Whether the Prince of Orange will follow in her footsteps remains to be seen. In all fairness, Willem-Alexander grew on me (metaphorically speaking of course) in the last five years or so, so I'm not too worried about the future.

Actually, yes I'd heard of her before, and I'm not even a Roman Catholic. I don't care about the alleged miracles, but I've always been fascinated by the incredibly well orchestrated mumbo jumbo that comes with them. The reason I brought this thread back to life was not because I was questioning Niemeyer's fame, he obviously ís well-known throughout the world (as was the late lamented sister Lucia). The point is: I had my doubts about Niemeyer's status as one of the greatest artist of the twentieth century, as claimed by the portuguese-speaking guy. Modern art is not my cup of tea, but designing an incredibly big, new, ugly city somewhere in the jungle does not tickle my senses.

I'm not very much into architecture, so it never occurred to me that an architect by the name of Oscar Niemeyer existed. After a brief investigation, it seems clear to me that I shouldn't bother. Apart from him being ancient, which is obviously an asset when DL-nomination is at stake, the guy is completely uninteresting. Wiki states: "He was a pioneer in the exploration of the constructive possibilities of reinforced concrete." Right. But it's quite interesting to see how our beloved Latin-American friends tend to disagree with me. Mr. Magno here says that Oscar Niemeyer's days has been counted. ('Debilidade física' is a very eloquent way of describing a body going downhill, isn't it? Would 'debilitating physique' be the correct English equivalent? I'm not too sure of my translational skills here.) Magno disagrees with Oscar's red sympathies, but still considers him to be the most original and prominent artist of the twentieth century. I think most people missed this rather controversial statement, so I'd like to pose it again in English, which is (for good reasons) a more widely accepted language in this forum than Portuguese.

Thanks Janeo! That place happens to be my place too. The most recent debate in the Netherlands is on whether or not we should allow euthanasia to be administered on babies with severe deformities (if that's the correct english term, can't think of another). No matter how civilized a nation is, euthanizing incompetent patients is a delicate subject. The hospital in my hometown Groningen worked out a protocol, which is now scrutinized by politicians and the media. Some deathlist visitors seem to have a morbid fascination that goes way beyond the celebrity-theme, though.

Or, to be absolutely sure of at least one succes, the DL might predict "just any one"'s demise. -
It was my pleasure, mr. J.

She's no celebrity, sir. This being my maiden post as a registered user, I should practice modesty, but I've hung around long enough at Deathlist to know one might argue about this. I agree mrs Muhammad is of moderate fame, as is Brooke Astor herself. Having been married to some celebrity might not always suffice for a DL nomination, but as we're talking about a 108-years-old, you should be flexible (it's for a good cause). Surely as your first post, you should have accused us all of being sic bastards what deserv to di ov canceer? You're all sic bastards what deserv to di ov canceer.

I'm not sure whether or not he's been mentioned before, but what about (former) Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg? He'll be 85 next january, his wife passed away this year and he looked extremely frail at her funeral. Continental royals don't tend to live as long as their British counterparts, so the Grand Duke is certainly one to consider for 2006. Couldn't find anything on him in the extensive DL-fora, and he would have been an unique pick at the DDP: he's not that obscure, having been the ruling monarch of Luxembourg for 35 years, is he? -
