  1. Apart from Silvio Gazzaniga, I can't think of anyone that is last word type. Natalie Babbit? Maybe Pete Burns?

Prince Mikasa, Curly Putnam, Bap Kennedy, Sir Nicholas Braithwaite or Natalie Babbit could be in the frame.

Still a couple of days to go.

Maybe a key DL pick could go to the top of the pile.

  2. Bap Kennedy dead at 54

F**k, he was one of my biggest dead certs for next year that is at least somewhat obscure.

Just been reading his wiki page and this stood out for me

Lonely Street, Serendipity and Moonlight Kiss (2000–05)[edit source]

After returning to the UK, Kennedy briefly managed an Elvis impersonator named The King, and was the producer for The King’s album Gravelands – a collection of songs by other deceased artists performed in the style of Elvis Presley.[5] The record became a firm favourite of John Peel and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.[5]

    Clearly one of ours

  3. Ah ya kuntz bitchin about Halloween.

Well my daughter had a gay olde time roaming the streets as Rainbow Dash (my little pony). Another 5-6 years and it'll be over so I enjoy her events vicariously. Be dead soon enough, I'll save me bitchin till then.

    SirC

When my daughter was in year 6 (age 10) her primary school held a fancy dress disco all her friends were really snooty about it and decided they weren't going to dress up she was determined to do so and she went as the BBC kids TV character Raven complete with drawn on beard and Raven staff not only did she come home with a big box of chocolates for best costume all the Year 3s followed her round.

However it seems to have given her a bit of a but as now 10 years later she goes to conventions and 'cosplays'

Is there a complete list of runners in this pool anywhere? I can't be arsed to look through the whole thread.

All those entries from biblios at 6:01 are in this current pool.

I meant from the beginning, apart from those who have since fallen off the perch.

    I take it that's a no, then.

No but I will do one.

Cheers. I was wondering how difficult it would be to add more candidates.

I created a data base with a minimum of eight names for year year/sex category so that I know I will have options if I can get my entry in in the first eight.

I have just crunched some numbers comparing acts that had UK No.1 hits in 1957, 1967 & 1977.

In 57 there were 11 acts who had a No.1. Still living there are four solo artists (Tommy Steele, Tab Hunter, Paul Anka & Harry Belafonte) in addition there is one cricket (Jerry Allison) So 4.25/11 is 38.6%.

    A similar analysis for 67 gives 7.33333/12 = 61% and for 77 12.683333/16 = 79.3%.

The only person who is on more than one list is Paul McCartney.

So we should lose 2.7 acts from the 67 list in the next 10 years.

Putting aside the question of why, this is an interesting piece of analysis. Of the '57 names, Tab is writing books, Paul is still performing, Harry is still an activist and Tommy is crap as Glen Miller (a horrendous piece of miscasting). Hard to say who would go first (though Tommy Steele is dying more often). What about letting us see the rest of the lists?

Here are the lists.I have expanded 67 but left the groups intact for 77.

    1957

    Tommy Steele

    Tab Hunter

    Nancy Sinatra

    Sandie Shaw

Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, Mike Nesmith (The Monkees)

Brian Poole, Rick Westwood, Len Hawkes (The Tremeloes)

    Baccara

    Wings (2/3)

I have no idea about whether any of The Floaters are still alive. Wiki gives the names but no more info.

For those who are interested moving on to 1987 gives us a 82.4% survival rate notable fallers include Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Ben E King and Mel Appleby

I have included the full list

    1987

    Steve Silk Hurley

    Aretha Frankin/George Michael

    Ben E King

    Boy George

    Mel & Kim

Ferry Aid (17/20 heaadline performers still alive)

    Whitney Houston

    The Firm

    Pet Shop Boys

    Los Lobos

    Michael Jackson/Siedah

Starship aren't fully crewed anymore - though Grace Slick improbably lingers

I think the 1987 line up are still breathing.

Aye, I stand corrected - mind, other than Ms Slick it ain't like there were any genuine musical heavyweights in there, eh?

I did have to look them up to find out who they were and whether they were still alive.

Grace Slick was 78 on Sunday.

How many historic British figures can you identify?

    http://offbeat.topix.com/quiz/17270/qidx1

Aimed at Americans so it's a tad easy, but I still couldn't get all of them.

"Which ancient British queen is this, Boudicca or Cleopatra?" Riiight.

They are on thin ice with James Joyce and Oscar Wilde as "British icons".

Oh, and they spelled the Duke of Edinburgh's name wrong.

Very thin ice suggesting Margaret Thatcher might be human!
