    Deathlist Cup 2024

Looks like we've got two no-shows, sadly. So, Cpt, Hemlock and Annami, you're already through. Before I post the match-ups, a few notes on disqualifications and allowed names, just so you know where I'm at. Disqualified: - John Adams (MND), "Awareness raisers" need a national profile according to the rules, the BBC local pages didn't cut it for me. - the mother of the Israeli hostage, well, obviously - Chelsey Reynolds: "Award winning apprentice jockey", I thought "apprentice" is more important than "award-winning", so she's not notable ..yet, so to say. Allowed: I-Ho Pomeroy: "Elected politicians at every level" are allowed as per the rules. I posted a reminder of that rule on the forum when UK councillor Jason Smith died, so I call it the "Jason Smith" rule. Craig Cobane: Probably the name I invested the most time in, and thought about the longest. It did seem to me that the position of the college and the scientific level of Mr. Cobane combined were enough, though just barely. I pretty much automatically allowed everybody with a Wikipedia page. The super-duper old are also in. Basically those who would obit, i.e. not 6th oldest North Dakotan or something.

    Oprah Winfrey

Time for former DeathList entry Oprah Winfrey to have her own thread, especially since she's recently had heavy pneumonia: https://www.buzzfeed.com/benhenry/oprah-winfrey-pneumonia I couldn't believe there wasn't a thread for her yet. (I also can't believe I just linked to Buzzfeed.)

Yes - and then, he wasn't Drop 40, which would have been a real regret for not putting him into the main team.

    Political Frailty

Strongmen like strongmen, Trump really likes Putin, he loves Kim Yong-Un, he likes Jair Bolsonaro, Victor Orban and whoever else is out there. Maybe there is a differentiation to be made in that there are populist strongmen, i.e. people who act like it and don't really mean it. They love to have other populists to play against, like George Bush Jr. really liked to have a similarly aggressive foil in Mahmood Ahmadineschad of Iran. Now, some strongmen are really above playing to the audience. Putin is one, I think, but Trump isn't.

    Deathlist Cup 2024

Oh dear, popular pick for March, the musician Cat Janice has died. She was an American musician who wasn't exactly a household name - until her advanced cancer diagnosis created a storm. At the time of her death she had 1,9 Million TikTok followers and her final song "Dance outta my head" actually entered the charts. Sad story all around - except for the two players who picked her here - max bossetti ominously scores joker points and Wormfarmer punches his ticket for the next round. livingbygrace 0-9 Therewillbedeaths7 Gooseberry Crumble 0-10 Famous6eva GuyFromFuture 6-3 Liz Lemon Caleb H 7-6 Bibliogryphon Dying Probably 0-16 max bossetti Wormfarmer 6-0 Thatcher Yorkshire Banker 3-9 DeathByArsenic The Immortal 0-0 justonecornetto GreatUncleBulgaria 0-6 Mortal Caso theoldlady 0-0 Baby Blue A bit more than a day remains to enter your team for next month.

Thread for your grandmother's favourite crooner, Engelbert Humperdinck. Now 85 years old. His wife passed away not too recently, and while he generally seemed to be in good health, gave interviews and such, he has now fallen seriously ill and had to cancel all of his tour: https://www.the-sun.com/uncategorized/4038747/engelbert-humperdinck-cancels-uk-tour/ Possible DeathList candidate?

Update for Tep Vong. He was the chief buddhist of Cambodia in the past decades, survived Pol Pot and restored the Buddhist community after the fall of the regime. He's a prime example of being the obligatory drol/arghton pick of the month - there's always one of them who scores. It doesn't change the game a lot though, as previous leaders max bossetti and Death By Arsenic now lead by a little more. livingbygrace 0-9 Therewillbedeaths7 Gooseberry Crumble 0-10 Famous6eva GuyFromFuture 6-3 Liz Lemon Caleb H 7-6 Bibliogryphon Dying Probably 0-10 max bossetti Wormfarmer 3-0 Thatcher Yorkshire Banker 3-9 DeathByArsenic The Immortal 0-0 justonecornetto GreatUncleBulgaria 0-6 Mortal Caso theoldlady 0-0 Baby Blue The clock is ticking, you have a little more than 50 hours to submit your teams for march.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2025

    The D-A-CH-DeathList 2024 (page 18)

German satire magazine Titanic does a bit of deadpooling: https://www.titanic-magazin.de/briefe/2024/maerz/ ("Dir, Tod,") In 2010, after Bärbel Bohley and Claude Chabrol died one day after another, they speculated which alliterative name is going to die next, so they thought about Dieter Dehm, Erhard Eppler, and Frank Farian. Two of those three are dead now, so they think that A lives, B+C dies, D lives, E+F dies, etc.... So their next names on the list are Gundula Gause, Hansi Hinterseer and Ida Immendorff. Presumably, German evening news frontwoman Gundula Gause will then survive even though she fainted on camera not too long ago. Bavarian Schlager-Star Hansi Hinterseer would then die soon, and "model" / socialite Ida Immendorff would die, too. At 22 years of age, that would be pretty spectacular.

    Time Added

Borussia Mönchengladbach loses two Club legends, Danish champion Ulrik Le Fevre and German midfielder Friedhelm Frontzeck. Le Fevre contributed to two national championships during the club's 70s imperial phase. The first of quite a few danish imports. Frontzeck won the national Cup with them in 1960 and is the father of player/coach Michael Frontzeck: https://www.spiegel.de/sport/fussball/fussball-bundesliga-moenchengladbach-trauert-um-ulrik-le-fevre-und-friedhelm-frontzeck-a-97441865-f8f9-4085-836a-973d159157be

    Deathlist Cup 2024

Let's update for Wilson Fittipaldi and Irene Camber. Wilson Fittipaldi was a member of the Fittibaldi racing family. The name rang a bell for me, but I surely don't remember him, because he was active in Formula One in the 70s and scored only three points in 38 races. More importantly, he led the Fittipaldi team - which is probably what I remember. Wilson's son later became the first Nepo Baby of the Formula One championship. Wilson just could never slow down, so he died from eating too fast and choking on a piece of food. Three teams score. DeathByArsenic turns around their fortunes against Yorkshire Banker. Therewillbedeaths7 probably score the decisive hit. Irene Camber QOs with this obit: https://www.eurofencing.info/news/efc-mourns-the-loss-of-fencing-legend-irene-camber-n491195.htm though I see now that she also received the Corriere Della Serra obit. She was a legend of fencing and an Olympian gold medal winner at the Helsinki games in 1952. Caleb H scores a valuable unique hit against Bibliogryphon who might have jinxed himself when he submitted the early team. But there's some time left. livingbygrace 0-9 Therewillbedeaths7 Gooseberry Crumble 0-10 Famous6eva GuyFromFuture 6-3 Liz Lemon Caleb H 7-6 Bibliogryphon Dying Probably 0-7 max bossetti Wormfarmer 3-0 Thatcher Yorkshire Banker 3-6 DeathByArsenic The Immortal 0-0 justonecornetto GreatUncleBulgaria 0-6 Mortal Caso theoldlady 0-0 Baby Blue

Yes, I should have added his "voice acting" - I have also played a few of the video games that he contributed to.
