She headlined the first broadcast of the Ed Sullivan Show and was the voice of the Chiquita Banana cartoons. Some of her roles include the movies Earthquake, Airport 75 and The Concorde - Airport 79.

Grrr... happens when one forgets the "copy" part of copy/paste-ing and the old link is still saved.

What about Jean-Marie le Pen and her daughter Marine? (Family problems)

(FN party, far right party jn France)

He was hospitalized yesterday for a "small heart problem".

Could his ostracism (hmm, contains the word racism) lead to a heart attack?

Now Le Pen has sued his party over his expulsion. Somebody there suggests that Le Pen doesn't want his creation, the National Front, to outlive him:

The german article I saw first also mentions that Le Pen is being investigated for tax fraud and a secret swiss bank account.

Edit: Here's something in english: http://panteres.com/2015/06/10/french-judiciary-is-investigating-le-pen-for-tax-fraud/

He's actually a huuuuge name in jazz circles. That's a very significant death. Not as big as Christopher Lee's, but bigger than Ron Moody's.

I am not convinced about Coleman being bigger than Moody. He was one of the 420 names on my work game where 52 players each get 50 picks. (Nobody picked him, 8 people picked Ron Moody and 15 people picked Christopher Lee. I had thought for a long time that Ornette was a woman.

Depends where you're coming from really. Coleman was a big, big name in jazz- perhaps the last of the greats (I don't count Herbie Hancock because of the 1980s). Moody was just as important in his own field, but the two aren't really comparable because they come from different worlds. Both made significant contributions. To me as a part-time jazz listener, Coleman's death means more. To a lover of musical theatre (not a euphemism) Moody's death might've had a more profound impact.

Indeed. I like to listen to jazz occasionally and yes, apart from Hancock, Coleman might have been the biggest name in Jazz still alive (and not owing his standing to Miles Davis). However, though I don't like musicals, I knew Oliver! - but I didn't know Mr. Moody. The British factor might also play a role. Coleman's death got big headlines in Germany yesterday, Moody got small ones.

  4. I always wanted to live through 3 centuries, i.e. get born in the 20th century, die in the 22nd century. But I'd have to become 118 years old for that, a bit unrealistic in spite of our progressing medical abilities. I feel relatively confident getting to 90. My only obstacle is my heavy consumption of sugary drinks. Many of my older relatives lived unhealthy lives as miners, so I think I cannot really compare to them. So I guess I die, let's say, 2075 [knocks on wood].

I hope Winton survives. Now that I've lost this competition with zero points, I want it to stay that way. If I lose, I want to lose really, really badly.

Eh, so now I have even failed at totally failing, now that Ornette Coleman is dead.

Aye, but it's only a game fella. All this beating yourself up....just an idea, like; when they call the next DLCon come along, neck a pint and chill with the rest of us.

Ah, it was just my extremely passive-aggressive way of saying "I called it!"

Indeed a huge name (I'm a musicals fan so I'll disagree on Moody ha ha). Apparently he had just filed a lawsuit against his former colleagues for releasing New Vocabulary without his permission. Maybe the shock and strain of the last year in preparation for this step was too much, I dunno. http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6582967/ornette-coleman-lawsuit-antibalas-jordan

Indeed, very unexpected. I had him on my deathrace team, mainly because in contrast to many other blues/jazz legends, he quit touring and stopped recording. He was one of the last people from the golden age of jazz. Miles Davis or John Coltrane died rather early deaths, so he was a bit overdue... Yet, the lawsuit indicated otherwise, but then Christopher Lee signed on to a new movie last month. These are the statistical deaths you cannot predict in particular, only in the aggregate.

  8. Some new media reports in Germany:

    http://www.focus.de/politik/deutschland/kanzler-der-einheit-auf-der-intensivstation-sorge-um-helmut-kohl-gab-es-komplikationen_id_4742071.html

His situation is still "unchanged", i.e. just like the last time they say he's doing well "considering the circumstances". They don't let anyone near him, just like in the last couple of years. Apparently, there were complications after the second operation, just a day after the last press release. That former press release said that he was planning to go on a holiday, but now it looks to be a lie or wishful thinking.
