    The Deathlist Christmas Special!

Close, told some guys who were doing some work outside today about whamaggedon. They had smooth fm playing on one of those DeWalt radios (why won't an ordinary radio do?) but no so loud I could hear it inside. So of course one of them shouted at me for something and then as I get there says 'Oh I didn't need anything but George Michael just came on'. I'm halfway through calling him every name under the sun for dragging me out there to get whamageddoned, but it was Careless Whisper...the git. No more tea for that bastard.
  3. You didn't start a new thread with a poll for this? Every newbie and his dog is showing you how to do it, and you have a worthwhile reason and don't? Pity.

Ideas for position no. 1 on 2021 DL

Excellent idea. Completely on board with that, it'll piss creepy off even more than he has been so far with some no account English sport at the top of the list. But where are you considering sending it? c/o The Mandela Bar, Warwick University definitely isn't going to cut it, not least since it hasn't been called that for something like 25 years. NB. And probably of no particular interest to anyone: But a true story nonetheless. I once threw up in that exact bar in the late 80's (hell it may even have been with the fabled committee there). A friend was in their Rugby team and I was visiting when they had one of those post match 'drinking circle' things. Some will know the idea, a bunch of daft rules such as only drinking with your left hand, asking permission from the chairman to make a comment etc etc. Make any error at all and you have to drink about half a pint as a penalty or possibly even the whole thing for a serious infraction. Do I know the rules? Do I fuck. So I start with some minor miss-step and instantly get called on it then drink that penalty with my right hand incurring a further fault and a whole pint.... you can doubtless see where this is headed...... Long story short I had drunk 3 pints of fizzy lager in the space of as many minutes and hadn't even sat down yet. Not being a fast drinker in the first place and lager not my thing even if I were, the fizz got to me and I chucked the lot straight back up in a corner, what a wuss - not even remotely drunk...meh. At least I was out of the game before they got to the part where they made you drop your trousers and then shove a length of bog-roll up your arse crack and set light to the bottom of it - you have to drink a full pint before you can remove it.....Happy days.

Because you are uniquely positioned to spot that? As opposed to all us dullards? Cunt.

Cunt. That's more swearing per inch than I just posted.

Please don't swear on my thread? Da fuq? (not really swearing) You started a conversation, you don't fucking own it (yeah, ok, definitely swearing). Fucks sakes, why do arseholes always fucking think because they start a thread they have some power to dictate some set of arbitrary self appointed fucking rules for what's subsequently said in it? Fuck off. (unnecessarily excessive swearing, sue me)

Your knight in shining (if web digited :P) armour read* (or deciphered, whatever) them though. Boiled his piss it seems. Fair play. *I didn't bother at all, which it turns out I should have done, since that's what made him so ornery about it when I kind of defended the guys right to have an opinion.

Actually I don't do many, too much work. I do however think that if one does but doesn't post much it does give you the right to an opinion. And hahahahaha can't win em all. Ok. As above. Don't actually do that many myself, and am also apparently tedious, so only the 7 years gives me any right to an opinion at all. I said we probably agree more than disagree.

Hell no. But you said JK had only made "a whole 195 posts" in 3 years. Did I misread the implication that this was not enough of a contribution to have an opinion on a feature? And that if he had posted 10,000 times but said nothing much that was enough? In practice I probably largely agree with you, perhaps unsurprisingly. Only on what a worthy contribution is do we differ. I don't personally conflate quantity with quality in that I'd sooner read 200 interesting posts than 10,000 tedious ones (though I'm not saying what JK posts necessarily are or aren't here, but he does take part in the pools that are the reason for this place).. And if they are all tedious I'd sooner only have to wade through the 200. At least two of the posters you regularly take pot-shots at post an awful lot. I don't find their contributions particularly stimulating either, but that's by the by if what is being asked is whether they contribute sufficiently to have their opinion considered. Are you saying that the author of 10k tedious posts is more worthy to have their opinion considered than 200 (tedious or otherwise but mostly related to actual dead pools) over a long period?

Ah well now that's a bit of a double edged sword though isn't it? I'd rather have a couple of hundred posts over that 3 years, mostly relating to actual pool entries, than several thousand all consisting of utter drivel. Mind, it is a way to trim stuff in a hurry. Oh it's you.....next thread.

Not enough, he never ceased to amuse me. Yes yes I know he had to go, he went too far. But personally I'd rather be amused with some slight chance of actually being offended than bored out of my mind by one FFBI beating some other FFBI in a comp.

Sadly I discover I wasn't even the first person to think of fixing that. Not by quite a way. ETA, Oh and if you find logging on and off something of a pain, you can always use a different browser.
  15. No? Not much of a fan of FTFY generally, well, not for spelling or general grammatical errors where the meaning is clear and it's just a typo, (largely because sooner or later I'll have egg on my face when I inevitably do it) but I can't get my head around exactly what you mean if you did mean to use prior.

Thoughts and Opinions on the 2020 List

The logic is damn sound so far as I can see. Statistically, we have only 29/365 days left so that's just 8% of the time now remaining. Further where there were 50 possibilities on Jan 1 there are now only 32 or 64% of the original field. The window is closing fast on fewer runners. However, sudden heart attacks pay no mind to statistics of course. NB, just waiting for some plank to turn up and tell me I can't do statistical analysis properly. Probably true, but I doubt they're any better

Shit. That didn't take 3 minutes so with the spare 2 mins and 59 seconds I could do a song and dance routine if you like? PS your English is fine Lafaucheuse. C'est en fait beaucoup mieux que mon français

    Advent Avalanche 2020

On the face of it pm is a common method, but the difference here is the 12 hour application window and limited pool of likely candidates. Everyone pm'ing Joey means he'd have to sit there monitoring pm for 12 hours straight or walk back to a possible shitstorm of posts and nobody knowing whether their pick was valid or not until he replied. Possibly multiple times due to the likely picks for the period being from a particularly small pool of candidates. Then, are they there when he replies so they know they are in or have to resubmit? and is he there when they reply to that? And what happens if somebody else posts the same name during that exchange?.... and so on. Everyone in this place might be considered something of a keyboard warrior, but this has a chance of quickly becoming ridiculous. Scan the previous posts, make your pick. Done. And nobody is in the dark or having to monitor pm for 12 hours. The need for a reserve is massively reduced anyway since there is at most a few hours between opening for submissions and the start line (although Spade still managed to give that a stern test, heh). TL:DR - A few crossed posts in a 12 hour period would be much less bother. The rules are clear enough that even I got it..

    Ironic Deaths

Not recent, but no search brings her name up. So... Charlotte Conant Fox (10 May 1957 – 24 May 2018) was an American mountaineer and the first American woman to reach the summit of three 8,000 meter peaks. She survived the 1996 Mount Everest disaster as a member of Scott Fischer's Mountain Madness expedition. She died of head injuries on May 24, 2018, after falling over a stairway railing at her house. Yes, that is the entire wiki entry for her, and no, it doesn't seem to have attracted any comments about irony (intended or otherwise) in the talk section. Further, yes, I was watching the supremely originally titled film 'Everest' from 2015 tonight and did a little digging as one does.

    Ideas and Possibilities for 2021

I see Uli's point, but - in the event that she does go - isn't obviating the need to wade through the inevitable 135,000 posts on 450 new topics and 240 existing ones all tediously spouting one variation or another of "A terrible miss by the committee' worth one measly place on the list? *PS Yes LFN i also know the committee pays no regard to chatter on here, even if only because I learned so many moons ago from yourself and the other fixtures in the halls of this hallowed place. If only all the those posting those fucking 'miss' posts also did, I could have saved this post.....
