    Football Manager Sacking Bingo 2

Interesting. I was gonna stand on that Poxy Pedant Pedestal (that alliteration is woeful) by linking it, however that doesn't work for some reason . Ok, tinyurl then (No I wouldn't have bothered either, so I'll stfu now).

    Room 101

Capitalism in general and in this particular instance? Utilities. So, in 2019 I signed up to the MoneySavingExpert cheap energy club to swap my Gas and Electricity on an annual basis to the cheapest provider. Sensible for once. That moved me to a fixed deal with Yorkshire Energy, ok I don't live in Yorkshire but whatever. 2nd December 2020, Yorkshire energy go bust. Money (a few hundred cause companies always take more than I use) with them is backed by ofgem and is just moved to my new supplier about which I have no choice. At least I don't lose it. I tried to move to another deal by signing up with another supplier, but no, can't do that I have to wait until its moved automatically to whoever is taking over. Jan 2021, moved to the execrable Scottish Power (I looked them up, the worst customer service ever it seems). Feb 2021 once I've got to Scottish Power I can move it again. So I go back to MSE and start the process again. Mar 2021 I move to Green power on a fixed deal, you can guess where this is going now..... Sep 2021 Green goes bust. Oct 2021 I am being moved to Shell, again my money is being transferred in the background somewhere. I am now back on the variable tariff with no discount and no fix at a time when utility prices have gone through the roof. I did what I'm supposed to do. I used the market as it was intended to be used. And over the winter, I'll be paying the highest price for utilities. I've been with 4 companies in a year. Oh and to follow on from Mr @time above, when I found out they'd died? I rang both Yorkshire and Green, sat in a massive queue for both to talk to some poor sod who had just lost their job..... Capitalism? You can shove it*. As the saying goes, it works well, if you have a huge pile of capital you wish to turn into a bigger pile of capital. Grrrr. *At least for utilities, trains, buses and the like. Public services should not be a cash cow for private investors (though in this case, it seems it's not even that).
  6. My god gooseberry you really do spout from the font of the barking. Not sure how you keep it up to be honest, fair play though, for a load of utter tosh. you do keep it going.
  7. Ah yes, a vague recollection of this, Jack Palance. Pretty sure there was something in the same set about gingham dresses..."I don't even know what 'gingham' is" and so on. I also recall without looking it up that it was colon cancer and he was I think 32, started performing aged 16. Never been a fair world. :S
  8. I suspect the reason for the wars is the same as you suspect for drugs. Arms manufacturers, money, political contributions and the revolving door (of political office and company directorships). I suppose neither will change whilst the populace isn't given the truth. Hence my opening statement that finding the facts is actually quite tricky, they don't want us to have the facts it'll hurt their bottom line. No major news organisation tries to mount a concerted attack on any of this either, they do the occasional sniping from the side-lines to maintain the fiction of editorial freedom but never really go at it. Owned by rich people. The BBC though....hm. Too tied up with the politicians in a different fight I guess. Simplistic, and maybe I'm just too stupid. Ah well.
  9. Two things I've never really got my head around. Perhaps partly because finding unbiased information is somewhat difficult. Given that drugs seem to be responsible in one way or another for a huge percentage of crime figures. Why hasn't anywhere really tried legalising and taxing them and spending the tax treating addicts that can't cope. It's been suggested numerous times, but nowhere major ever tried it. Must be a reason. Got more of an idea with this one, but why do first world countries always have to be at war with someone? America in particular wonders why everyone hates them, but can't keep their fingers out of other peoples business. Just never go to war in the gulf, never go to Afghanistan. If you don't mess in these places, there won't be the terror to wage war on. The humanitarian thing just doesn't wash, there are plenty of other places they just let them get on with it. We, first world, may not like the 'abuses' in Afghanistan (I certainly don't) but it's not 'our' country, it's theirs. Simplistic I know, and too lazy to nuance it up properly. Would also be pages long. But in general, I really think 'mankind' in general could do better.

Yeah, I'd be more interested in a poll of which one has the more ludicrous name.

The All Coppers Are Bent Bastards Thread!

It's not often I feel this much disgust for someone, but this bastard? The pre-meditation is simply staggering, hiring a car three days before? Driving her miles further than any local police station so she must have known? Worst of all, using a warrant card without which she was never getting in a car with an unknown man and abusing the position of trust society placed in you as a member of the police to prevent exactly what you are now doing? For what? To get your rocks off? The poor girl. Prison is supposed to be the removal of freedom, not a torture chamber, but in this instance? Ah fuck it, you got it coming. Cunt. As an aside I've always thought that plod was an odd calling, you have to be up for the physicality of dealing with the worst and most violent in society which you might imagine rarely appeals to people who don't enjoy a bit of a dust-up under other circumstances. So providing they can pass the vetting in the first place, you are almost bound to get some wrong'uns. And of course you do. This is another order though.

The Fringes Of Fame/family Of The Famous

Presumably not including "You will meet a tall dark stranger, but best avoid long dark limousines and long dark tunnels".
  13. I didn't say that. You know I didn't. I said the comparison to the number of MP's killed was fallacious. Oh I'd imagine she well knew that.
  14. Ok, this statement..... .....speculative or whatever else you want to call it. Does not support your argument because it's twaddle. You'd have been better off without it. WRT the rest of your argument I'm afraid personally I tend more to LFN's view that two wrongs do not make a right. Whether she is right or wrong is completely undermined by her choice of language.
  15. Seriously? The first thing I quoted ^^ up there, "how many people have been attacked/murdered in racially-aggravated, homophobic or misogynistic attacks? Is it more? I bet it’s more." You are comparing quantities. Actual numbers, data, so yes, stats. And as for cherry picking what you respond to...pft. I'm not going ad-hom, but you are hot under the collar about this. I agree with a great deal of what you post, just not this.
  16. You did use stats. Their application was incorrect. The rest is opinion, not necessarily opinion I disagree with but that's not my/the point. I don't mind what opinion you, or anyone else has, I am free to agree or disagree. I emphatically do mind when anyone including you tries to use incorrect *facts* to make, or back up, a point. Which is also why I "latched on to that one small part of my post ". Don't conflate 'false dichotomy' with 'all it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing'. They are not the same thing.
  17. I don't see why. And it's not 'my interpretation' it's what you stated. You tried to directly compare the number of politicians murdered (or attacked) against the number of 'racially-aggravated, homophobic or misogynistic' murders or attacks. And said the latter was more, or that you were prepared to bet that it was. Of course it's more, It's just not a valid comparison. In sheer number terms there are far far less politicians than the other group, thus even at the same rate in percentages (and I'm not done with this...) there would be far far less in absolute terms*. Even if you had expressed it as a percentage or per 100,000 of each group (as they do with Covid by region), there simply aren't enough politicians for a statistically valid conclusion. If you reduce it to the absurd (meh, I'm not quoting the Latin...) you can't argue a murder rate of tory voters (35-40% of the population using your figure) of x / 100,000 is remotely comparable to that of say clown-suited unicyclists. *Off the top of my head, just Jo Cox in recent history.....struggle to think of another aside from Airey Neave back in the mists of time. Sure, I have no problem understanding that you are exasperated. I just don't think that throwing invalid arguments (along with what may well be perfectly valid ones, I'm not that invested in this fight to check) helps your cause any. This sounds suspiciously like the false dichotomy 'if you're not with us, you're against us' which also doesn't help your cause whether it was aimed at me specifically or not.
  18. Deal with whatever you like. But don't use spurious statistics to try and back it up. It defeats your argument.
  19. More than politicians? There are what, 650 mp's total? Even allowing more from 'the other place' it's just not a big enough sample even in percentage terms to draw a meaningful comparison here. Never mind one on straight numbers. Unless your point was something else, in which case I'm missing it.

Am I sick in the head because that just made me think of Maxwell? Not that it wasn't a joke at the time mind....
  21. Presumably at the very least a little under 50% of them weren't since they still voted for him after he'd already been there for 4 years. And it's entirely possible that rather more that 50% weren't actually ashamed. That, sounds politically more plausible for sure.

    Doctor Who

Long overdue thread for Time Lords discussion. It really shouldn't be overdue, lets face it, if one can time travel that ought not to happen. ETA: Don't get me wrong I was a huge fan of Asimov and Clarke as a teenager and am still quite fond of Ronald D Moores' reboot of Battlestar Galactica, at least until it got stupidly spiritual/religious towards the end, not to mention Stagate SG1 which is an absolute riot in places. It's just that as an adult I never got Dr Who. Maybe I should have, but it is what it is.
