Came off Facebook about 10 years ago because I was bored of wading through so much shit to get to something remotely interesting. Stopped Twitter a year ago because some cunt ruined it. Now, WhatsApp does me social and Threads does me media. That's all one needs.

I don't like facebook (or Zuck). But I know no other way to connect with folks I've lost touch with over the years.

A couple of people I'm glad to know would probably have been lost forever without it.

I use a chrome extension to cut some of the crap, it's partially effective.

Also, for some reason our local pool league insists on results being posted/amalgamated on there, so I'd have to have it just for that.

Five minutes ago access was denied again and said you are blocked   Then I fiddled with my mobile phone and it was OK again,  perhaps temporarily.  I am absolutely baffled.  I thought IF I was banned  I'd be told why.  Mightily confused.

It'll be a fine admin that blocks my splendiforous input.  And yes, I probably made that word up as I went along.

Incidentally DI likely has a point here.

I do slightly miss the days when @Cat O'Falk used to follow my flights around the world and post updates here

Off the top of my head the two people I miss most from here are him (likely dead, very sadly) and Hein (hopefully not)*.

There are others, but for these two in particular I often consider what their responses might have been on any given subject - to this day.

Such is life, and why I'm here myself mostly I guess.

*I actually miss Deathray too, but for entirely different reasons and am in more of a minority there I suspect.

Not a death anniversary as such, but I missed my own anniversary on death list.  Twenty years ago on the 20th April 2004, I joined the death list. (Actually it was a bit earlier as I lurked for a couple of months before joining).

Gz. Feels like yesterday (I was lurking back then not posting).

You don't look a day older.

Alas, all the things we are not allowed to laugh at now. :(

    Well yeah, quite.

As a man with a sense of humour it feels a bit like there are some things I'm just not allowed to find funny - but I understand why at any rate.

    Sins of the Father.

I've had some long discussions with my sister about 'positive discrimination' (not just m/f but b/w too) which I was against, and she was for. Still ongoing to a point.

In the future hopefully we'll get to that sort of level playing field. I understand the historical issues though and why we have to go through a period of re-adjustment. It's just a bit painful to do.

I'm not proud of this, but my second thought was, the one on the left is a liar.

My first thought was indeed, omg how crass is that? And the third (which should have been second I know - and I'm sort of mortified it wasn't - was why did they allow themselves to be used like that?).

At least I'm being honest I suppose.

Nah - I'm in Ireland. A completely plastic fan! I follow the Red Sox via the internet, which is a lot easier to do now than it was in 2004!

Oddly I've found it harder - sort of.

I miss C5's coverage a lot. I did the fantasy baseball league there and everything.

I'm not generally much of a sports fan, not even football, it was something about Gould and cohorts (Lengel particularly) that livened it up for me.

Tried to keep going a bit once it stopped, but cannot get as much on board without that peculiar British slant on it or something - dno.

    A pity :(.

Going to be manning the company stand at an exhibition in Telford for the next two days. I will still have my phone but it would be bloody typical if the pent up backlog of deaths hits whilst I am otherwise engaged

Oh go on, give us a company name, then you could be stalked by anyone who's ever done that :sherlock: thread hereabouts. I'd give myself a laugh as it's not that far from me, but I have less than zero interest in 'furniture componentry'. I suppose there might be two concurrent exhibitions, but this is Telford not the NEC....

Most people honestly would have forgotten who she was already because of how short her time as PM was if she hadn't been PM when the queen died. Here in the US she is much more associated with that then anything else.

It's pretty much the same in the UK.

Genuinely got to the stage where I said out loud "go right ahead love, we'll kill every fucking one of you". Sick to the back teeth of his bullshit and how people will work against their own self interests to enable him.

The man is a narcissistic, over privileged, porn-star banging adulterer, very probable rapist, state secret ignoring, prick of the highest order.

The only thing that slows down my disbelief that anyone at all could vote for him originally let alone a second time ... is ...  well ... Boris.

No he's obviously not as bad, but we're in a small garden greenhouse with a pile of stones here even if it's not quite the original crystal palace.

Also, US gun laws, or lack thereof, make any such actions far more dangerous there than here or many other places.

The world has gone quite quite mad.
