Not content with just one, supposedly there is a second cancer special in the works...

Once again went to my alma mater to attend their yearly Sun God festival, which basically consists of a day everything that is great about college done almost to excess. Usually I come back from travels to a DL hit, so I guess I was a bit disappointed today to see that there wasn't one, but I can make due with a sunburn (first degree only, as opposed to last year's second degree), a sore throat and a mysterious illness that knocked me out cold for half a day, then left me feeling fine the other half. My brain is even mushier than usual too.

This post made me think of some heavy beer I recently tried. I can't point to the exact beer, but here's the site for Avery Brewing: its "Demons of Ale" series consists of Samael's Ale (14.5%), The Beast (14.9%) and Mephistopheles (15.1%). I've had the latter two and they're both essentially like drinking bread, and you indeed probably could survive a rather painful, but fun, year by consuming nothing else.

Not dead, says rep. Looks like today will be a fun one on the DL.

It's been five months, so it's time for another update that he's still in the hospital and has had to pull out of a film role.
-
Since he's been discussed on and off, I thought I'd mention that Wikipedia has a picture of baseball legend Ron Santo doing an impressive job of walking, despite having had both legs amputated. And yes, best I can tell, that picture was taken in May 2009.

To follow up on the above, Dunne claims that he'll soon be getting back to work after his treatment. Out of all the people I decided not to pick, it would be nice if more than just Seve survived the year.

Carl Reiner just popped up on the season finale of House. Looks a lot older these days, but still sprightly and funny.

Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists
Canadian Paul replied to Stayin Alive's topic in DeathList Forum
A while back I was complaining about how Godfrey Rampling never got any credit for being both the oldest British Olympian and very likely* the oldest gold medal-winning athlete and there was some doubt expressed as to whether or not he was alive. Well, to the best of my knowledge, The Independent finally got it right (only under the assumption, of course, that "last surviving gold medallist from the 1936 Games" means "from Britain") and included a very high quality photo to boot, just before he turns 100 on the 14th of May. He looks pretty good given his age, but I heard that he's fairly unwell, which is why I was surprised to see this. *Incidentally, if you care about trivia, the only older gold medallist who I cannot confirm as being either alive or dead is German rower Joachim Spremberg. If he were deceased, then Rampling would be the oldest. -
Poet James Kirkup, a unique selection by Grobler on the DDP, has died at age 91 of a stroke. That's the only obit so far I believe.

Read Any Good Books Lately?
Canadian Paul replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I rarely have time to read for pleasure any more these days, but I have to say that I can't resist picking myself up a copy of Shatnerquake. -
Former DDP pick as well, and I'm surprised to say that he would have gotten a proper obit. Don't think he was picked this year, but you never known with OoO's naming system these days.
-
Yes, indeed. With the exception thus far of Seve, all the big sickos that I didn't pick this year seem to be gone and almost all the ones I did are still around... definitely need to pick up the slack for 2010... But well chosen to those teams that did select him.

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries, etc... for 2009
Canadian Paul replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
How lovely, a picture of both of my children's fathers together. If only I just hadn't changed my avatar... -
Here's a link. It is TMZ, so I'd wait until it gets published somewhere else before reacting, but it's likely true. Too bad... I had been really excited when I heard he was declared cancer-free That is a shame. Out of curiousity CP, does "worked with Gene Wilder" constitute a theme team in your Dead Pool It sure would. And while I'm in the thread, Venetia Phair, the woman who named Pluto, has died at the age of 90.

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries, etc... for 2009
Canadian Paul replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Happy birthday Football Fan and TLC! Two manly men's birthdays calls for nothing less than twins of course! No wonder people are under the impression that there are no females on the DL. The ladies well know of course that if any of them happen to have a double birthday, I'll gladly glue two pictures of shirtless Johnny Depp together or something. -
No real update on his health, but this reminded me of Evel Knievel settling his lawsuit like, two days before he died...

If you've got five thousand pounds to spare, why not ask him about his health in person?

Picked this year by The End of the World As We Know It. Aha... he's under "Hamilton Gordon"... tricky Octopus... Anyhow, it'll be a first (and unique) hit for them if an obit surfaces, but I haven't seen one yet... (although apparentely, I wouldn't trust myself to find brisket in a BBQ house at this point... )

Albert Hamilton Gordon, one of the few remaining individuals who was working on Wall Street at the time of the crash that led to the great depression, has died at the age of 107. I thought he was a DDP pick at some point, but apparently not...

Now, speaking as one that dances like she just won at the Special Olympics (Copyright Robbie Williams), that was brilliant! Not one step was in time to the music! Boys really are rubbish at dancing. I love dancing. I regularly dance my way through my living room while Youngest Lard shouts at me to 'stop being so embarrassing mum'. In fact only last night (with the help of Jack) did I wobble my way through Hung Up by Madonna, whilst YL cringed on the sofa begging me to give her the number of the Child Protection Department. was pretty good though... personally I would have been more impressed if he had tap danced on roller blades instead of roller skates though.

Where Will The Next School Massacre Be?
Canadian Paul replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList Forum
Ok, so it aint a school, but wow am I psychic or summat.....maybe not lol http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8028317.stm PS...is Denmark dutch ??? Denmark is Danish. I had a dream last night and the only part of it that I remember is watching a news broadcast about how the Danish were upset about the most recent publication of their history textbook because it made them out to seem "really boring". -
I hate to do two posts in row, but Bikker's been dead and buried since November 08, he just didn't bother to tell us. Selfish jerk.
