Site updated to reflect the death of Paul Quarrington. Well done to Death Impends and Devon Death Trip!

DEAD, a unique pick in the DDP this year. Obituary seems likely... Oh good, it'd been almost 24 hours since someone who I left off my team died. Not sure how much coverage he'll get in the UK, but he'll probably slip by. If he doesn't, however, then I can fully justify having left him off. And if both he and Jenn Lyon get obits, it officially qualifies as my worst month for DDPing ever, no small feat.
-
Zohn's doing pretty well, considering. He's a fighter, I think he'll make it... he went from DDP joker to not even on my list. I think, however, given his charity work, his likability (one of my favourites), and the fact that he won it when the show was actually good means that he might scrape an obit. Rudy, I don't know. I think by the time he goes most people will have forgotten him, which is too bad (another favourite, thoroughly entertaining).
-
Two DDP'ers very much hope that the rumour is true... She's worth ten points. Oh it's true alright. Question is, will she get the British obit? Is reality TV's pull so strong that even cast members of an American show far past its prime gain national attention in Britain? Well I left her off my DDP list, so given my January track record in any given year, probably so.
-
January 25th in my birthday, and he might actually be gone by that date, so I guess I'd pick that, if I were inclined to such things. Hopper, however, is the one on my DDP list who I most hope has a healthy recovery... sadly, it doesn't look to be the case, which is too bad because I always found him to be such an entertaining actor.

Site updated to reflect the death of Jyoti Basu. Well done to Devon Death Trip!

Indian communist leader Jyoti Basu is no more. Surely DDT's eagle eye will be focused on unearthing a suitable CPDP ordinary team obit.

Why do comedians often live so long? Apart from "Jonesy" (Clive Dunn), there is Bill Pertwee, Eric Sykes, Peter Sallis, Frank Thornton, Barry Howard,June Whitfield, Roy Hudd, ............ Someone told me that laughter is good for the body... forget how they explained it though. I guess you've got to find your own antics amusing for that to work as a comedian though...

Your whole dream was about staring at wikipedia pages? I was also reading Sting's obituary and looking at pictures... but it was like a dream fragment, a minute or less. -
No it's not, infact she's getting better. Probably a good few years left in her yet. I'm removing her from my DDP. It can't get "better" it's a irreversible, degenerative disease, it can be managed, and you can have treatments to improve your quality of life, but it doesnt ever get better! That's not what I meant. Her symptoms have improved quite a bit and she isn't currently ill from the disease.... emphysema's a hit or a miss tbh.. yes she won't get better but she could go on for another 10 years yet... My Aunt's about Liz Dawn's age, but she's had it for years and years... aside from not being able to smoke or be around strong perfumes/colognes, she's no different from when she was diagnosed and still keeps a schedule busy enough to rival most people my age (my lazy ass included). Now obviously that's not the case for everyone, but if she's smart about it and can afford proper treatment, then she could go for a very long time yet...

Deathlist Dreaming

I dreamed last night that I was reading Wikipedia's recent death pages and I learned that Sting and his entire band (called the "The Stings", my subconscious isn't very creative) had died in a house fire that had resulted from the Haitian earthquake. That was about it, but it's not the first time I've dreamed about Sting dying... guess he'll be on my HDP for sure next year... -
Out of curiosity, is that the same person as Rosemary Pitman, or is that a different Rosemary? I know nothing about the British royal family and am proud... It is... It is what? Same or different? She was Rosemary Pitman before she was Rosemary Parker-Bowles, but whether or not thats the Rosemary Pitman to whom refer, I don't know. Thanks... she was on the research list, and I wanted to remove her before someone left a note in that thread for me to do it...

Every time we check up on her health, she's perfectly fine, going out and about, and looking 10-20 years young. Thus, she's even worse than all your other "old people" suggestions, since there is health news and it's all good. She COULD die tomorrow, but I would guess that I'm not that only one who could think of 50 better candidates. Hell, at least Anita Page is interesting. Furthermore, if you weren't so f*****g pea-brained, you'd have realized that she already has a thread. You know that everyone on this site has you on their ignore list, so you start a series of unnecessary threads, something everyone else has been trying to avoid. Why don't you go meet some people in real life if you want attention? Funny, I don't remember making that post... I blame it on the caffeine allergy. Made me irritable.

I am suprised Gies has gone, I really didn't thought another theme team hit was possible (I was wrong). Well you're doing quite well now, well done! Site updated to reflect Gies' death... two of the three Theme Competitions were won with scores at, or lower, than yours.

Puh! He's an artiste, refusing to be relegated to the likes of your low-class publications...only the best of British journalism will do for Mr. Rohmer. Well done to those that picked him and all.

Tsutomi Yamaguchi, who survived not one, but two atomic bombings in japan, has died at the age of 93, unsurprisingly from cancer. He was mentioned here I think, or maybe not, but he was covered by the Beeb in March 2009, so I suspect that someone on the DDP took a chance with him. Personally I just forgot about him, but at least he was old enough that it doesn't bother me too much...

Site updated to reflect the death of Johan Ferrier (and Cardinal Daly, for what it's worth). Well done to Vaagheid!
-
The oldest living former head of state is now Johan Ferrier of Suriname Not any more. Shame, just over 4 months shy of his 100th birthday. Picked in the 2009 DDP so I'm guessing he was picked for 2010. Some confirmation maninblack? This means that Vo Chi Cong is now the oldest surviving head of state, at 97 years old. If this fellow is counted, then it turns out that Ferrier was only the oldest from January 09 on. In any case, he ''is'' on the CPDP, so I suppose I should update that later today.

Not really oddly in Jean Carroll's case, as there was a mix up with another Jean Carroll who died in 1972, so many thought that she was long dead...
-
I like this thread too: Ethan Zohn (originally my joker, but he was declared cancer-free) Lisa Ray (seems like she may be alive 25 years from now) Laurent Fignon (tumors regressed by 17%, even if not cured he might make it to 2011) Jose Alencar (Cancer stable at the moment, and he seems tough enough to last another year) Jenn Lyon Moe Benoit Jim Stynes Paul Quarrington Nick Charles (all unlikely to get obits + not sure how sick Quarrington actually is) John Shelton Wilder (indeed died, but no UK obit as expected) I'm currently wondering if William Tenn, who I did pick, will get an obit, but I think he should get a mention somewhere...
-
Huh. Well that's me buggered for this year's competition. See you in 2011.
-
I'm not sweating over picking her as my joker just yet... as Tomb Raider has mentioned, it could be a while before she dies after being taken off life support. I would think that if it were an outright hoax, rather than just an exaggeration, someone affiliated with her would have spoken out by now.
-
Dead now. I doubt anyone took a chance on him, as he's unlikely to even make national news. Anyhow, here's my 2010 DDP Team: 1) Abdelbaset Al Megrahi 2) Vasily Aleksanyan 3) Milivoj Asner 4) Ronnie Biggs 5) Gabriel Garcia Marquez 6) Rev Billy Graham 7) Ernie Harwell 8) Stephen Hawking 9) Steven Hill 10) Dolores Hope 11) Dennis Hopper 12) Jack Kyle 13) Simon MacCorkindale 14) Edwin Morgan 15) Hiroo Onoda 16) Zelda Rubinstein (JOKER) 17) Ron Santo 18) William Tenn 19) Otto von Habsburg 20) Sir Norman Wisdom A conservative list, nothing too risky. I'm hoping that William Tenn (link for those wondering why I'd choose an obscure 90 year old) will get an obit on account of him being born British, but I reckon that it's a bit of a silly chance to take given that his age won't yield many points. I think it was more about improving my chances of getting a unique pick in there who actually has a fair chance of dying...

Same rules as last year, only people I saw die in dreams were eligible for the list. Canadian Paul's Dream Team: Ariel Sharon Stewart Udall Tony Martin Johannes Heesters Betty Ford Michael Foot Flory Van Donck Muhammad Ali John Babcock Eva Zeisel Move along, nothing to see here...
