    Near Misses for 2005

What do they know that we dont? Although there is a possibility that they do their homework, a more rational explanation seems to be a pact with the devil. regards, Hein

    Max Schmeling

That means: What have Max Schmeling to do with Hitler? Approximately so much as me! Accordingly nothing at all. Something like that. You'll be interested to know that only a few of the members of this forum are Americans and that a few more residents understand German. Some even speak it. One more thing: the communist revolution may not arrive unnoticed, but there's little indication that it will arrive at all, especially in Sweden. regards, Hein

    Near Misses for 2005

From a Dutch news source I learned that Corrado Cardinal Bafile, the oldest living Roman Catholic cardinal carked it at 101. A team in the DDP, Fallen Sparrow, is doing good business these few days. regards, Hein

Evolutionary biologist Ernst Mayr dies at 100. See this Obituary. He wasn't on DeathList, but he is my first hit in the DDP. regards, Hein

The readers of this thread may appreciate this bit of doggerel, written by my countryman Charivarius: The Chaos. regards, Hein

    Max Schmeling

Ignoring it.... This is rapidly becoming one of those "Don't mention the war" skits. regards, Hein (who mentioned it once, but thinks he got away with it)

    Max Schmeling

As has been pointed out before, Schmeling probably wasn't a Nazi, but he and his success were used by the Nazi's for propaganda purposes. Anyway, Germany lost a legendary sportsman and DL got its first hit. One may wonder which is worse. regards, Hein

    Nelson Mandela

It is almost certainly true that he was involved in some bomb making activities etc. and his wifes proclivities are not in doubt, but I do think you are being a little harsh. People do change over time, and I would not class Mr Mandela as evil. Bomb making, if that is what Mr Mandela did, is not bomb planting, as our foxy friend claims. Winnie Mandela has been convicted for kidnapping and assault, fraud and theft. It isn't reasonable to blame Mr Mandela for those crimes. The first happened while he was in prison, the second after he divorced her. One may or may not agree with the methods the ANC used in the struggle against the Apartheid regime, but I'm pretty sure we could use a few more Mandela's in countries like Iraq, Sudan and Northern Ireland. regards, Hein

    Nelson Mandela

I'm not sure which bombing you refer to, but I very much doubt that Mr Mandela had anything to do with it. Could you provide some more details? One more thing: writing in all upper case (or ALLCAPS) in online fora is considered as shouting. I can hear you perfectly without that. regards, Hein

    Nelson Mandela

Ooooh, someone's confused, and in all upper case too. I'm so impressed. regards, Hein

    Nelson Mandela

I just saw some footage of Mr Mandela at his son Makgatho's funeral. He didn't look very well. See this BBC news article for a review of the funeral. regards, Hein

    General Pinochet

The easiest way to get that result would be the elimination of that Thatcher person. Any objections? regards, Hein
