  1. Since we're on the UFO topic.....

A "flying saucer UFO” that was displayed for decades on a corner of the wall outside the International UFO Museum & Research Center building on South Main Street in Roswell, New Mexico, went missing on Sunday mysteriously. The silver-colored mock-up of a flying saucer UFO made of fiberglass and stainless steel had served as mascot for the museum since it opened in 1992.

I think it did a mock launch and flew away.

  2. I think the positive reports emanating from the Cruyff camp suggested a 2017 pick for most of us.

Of course I considered Cruijff for my Minions of Xuleneb theme team, but he deceived me. Can't trust those Amsterdammers.

  3. Joining Feyernood for one season just because Ajax wouldn't give him an improved contract is perhaps the finest moment of pure petulance in sporting history. What a man.

And better: winning the Eredivisie (Ajax 3rd) and the KNVB Cup (final won 1-0 against Fortuna Sittard).

I just watched charon's video, some of the footage there was of the 1974 Wold Cup, including the final. That was the first world cup I watched. I well remember how perfectly normal that kind of footy was then. Later in life I realised what an exceptional footballer Cruijff was.

Cruijff's comments on football were magic. Sometimes screaming nonsense, never in correct Dutch, often blindingly obvious and always entertaining. My favourite: "Als wij de bal hebben kunnen hun niet scoren." ("If we have the ball, them can't score").

    Damn!

  4. Topic split from "Time Added".

Cruijff's son Jordi reports that Johan is "doing very well". He gave no details on treatment of Cruijff's cancer, but stated: "I can tell that we heard reasonbably good news recvently."

I'd prefer solid medical evidence, but I think I did the right thing to leave Cruijff out of my teams.

    Oh no, I didn't. Damn!

  5.

This mormon missionary has survived three terror attacks:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3505243/It-s-blessing-God-s-alive-American-Mormon-injured-brush-terrorism-Brussels-surviving-Boston-bombing-Paris-attacks.html

This morning, my favorite german news site had the count at two, now it's three. Soon, it's goin gto turn out that he is a walking ISIS magnet.

Hang on ... the Daily Mail says he was "a block away" from the incident in Boston. That's a fair distance.

And only that he was "in Paris" when last year's attacks took place.

So in fact he's been involved in one terrorist attack.

Ah, lying for Jesus, that's ok.

  6. Fuck it, I'd like to withdraw my rendition of TUM's team from the competition, this is probably best for all considered. A good lesson in making sure deadpool rules are well-written though.

Check. I had hoped you would.

    Check. Point about rules taken.

  7. Formal matters first:

Although MH, why have you listed Joey Feek and Crowe in my team, I provided subs and there's a precedent for using them if people submit already dead people to a team (see DDP). I demand my subs are reinstated in place of the deceased.

Since Deathray posted a carbon copy of The Unknown Man's team, includIng dead picks, I conclude he nicked it. Denial is a river in Africa.

I still think it's not sport, but I didn't recognise this, which is of course stupid, and I let the team in.

    This has two consequences:

    • Should MHDP get a second season, there'll be a rule change: registration by PM only.
    • Ordinarilly I would replace dead picks by subs, but for Deathray's stolen stiffs I won't, just because I can (under rule 8.3) and because it pissed me off, and hope one of The Unknown Man's subs does the right thing. It would be quite unfair if both teams were to finish tied.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-03-20/denmark-s-former-prime-minister-anker-joergensen-dies-at-93

This article says that the social-democratic party announced his death without providing details. So the exact time of death might remain unknown.

Edit: My extremely silly suggestion: Since he definitely died on the 20th, and the game covers about 3/4th of that day, make him a hit and give out three fourths of the points.

Hmm, a Schroedinger solution. That would mean I should award probable points. Give that a miss.

From http://www.socialdemokraterne.dk/da/nyhedsarkiv/2016/3/mette-frederiksens-mindeord-til-anker-joergensen/I think I read that he died on Sunday, not before. So while he may have done the deed before the competition started, I count Jørgensen as a hit. Well done to the teams who picked him.

Next stop in Europe: The Hague.

Id expect the Dutch to be a tad more on the ball than the Belgians.

Its not like you had one of the Paris terrorist ring leaders living openly in a suburb of Amsterdam for months, is it.

PS: Having been through Shipol a few times, well, your boys are very visible like our Police at UK Airports.

The police was quite visible in Rotterdam's metro this afternoon. They aren't ordinarily. I suppose there's little else they can do: put up a brave face and show some effort, pretty much like AAA shooting at Luftwaffe bombers during the Blitz. They might even hit something.

While it looks like the Belgian police fumbled this one, I'm not sure the Dutch police will catch what's pitched at them.

  9. Can we keep the MHDP shit to the MHDP thread please.

This is an experiment. I'll eventually reorganise the lot. I promise I won't start a topic for each MHDP hit.

  10. The master list isn´t done yet, but it´s time for some sleep. More tomorrow.

Daniels has been replaced by subs, as far as named, as were Crowe and Feek, Deathray´s `team` excepted.

  11. Why should Rob Ford be allowed? He was a mayor, big whoop. Do you have a population minimum for cities or can I list the mayor of Climax, French Lick, and Intercourse (MI, IN, PA respectively)?

Ford's antics before his current difficulties got mentioned on Dutch prime time TV news. That's good enough for me.

  12. I've never known wtf a button down shirt is anyway. So I looked it up, and apparently, it's a shirt, with buttons down the front, so in other words then, a shirt.

There's some bollocks in this fashion business.

Yes, I was surprised to learn that I've been wearing this novelty for 40 years.
