    Gerald Ford

Looking at the way it's written it's probably written by Iain Stan the Man Dick Long you know who... and if so, they wouldn't be old enough to enter a bookies anyway. 1-100 is a ridiclous price anyway, and if that was the correct price, it wouldn't be worth doing the bet. £100 on 100-1 however......

I can think of at least two straight off, and I'm not including "Honorary Albanian" Sir Norman Wisdom either. EDIT To save you asking, Leka, Crown Prince of Albania (King Zog's son) and Sali Berisha, the current President. Also a few footballers too, most notbaly Shefki Kuqi & Rudi Vata

    Derby Dead Pool 2006

I'm very unlikely to name all three for starters. I'm putting old Barzan in for sure (as he has cancer as well, I understand), Saddam probably (age/other trial means it's not a definite), but the judge? Well, I don't know his age for starters, and if the two henchman get life in jail instead, that's a place wasted. Just look at Michael Morales, or Norman Kember etc on the DDP this year. If it goes right, congratulations. But if it goes wrong, as it did for Dave's Drunk, Aye Dead Drunk, and Tim R, then that's 3 wasted places or a wasted joker. Also, a lot of the newbies/"enter for the fun of it" will only name Saddam. Let's say 250 teams enter, I would imagine no more than 75 are likely to pick Barzan Al-Tikriti, for one, Awad al Bandar for two. It's easy enough also to find which US prisoners will be executed in 2007, it's quite another to know if a UK obit is forthcoming - Clarence Ray Allen's age & State (ie Arnie after Tookie Williams furore) was a educated guess, but others often don't make news in the US much, let alone the UK... But yes, a team of 20 executions is possible. But I don't think that person who would be brave enough to do that will end up winning.

Yeah, I heard the same about Shriver. Right, he's off my list too unless I hear otherwise. I think I need to do a final sweep of all those I've discarded, in a few weeks, just in case one of them becomes "iller" of a sudden. Papon I'm likely to put on, same reasons as Stuart, but also whilst Gloria Stuart is just a movie star, Papon is an evil son of a bitch, so no mixed feelings, and I'm not having him thrawht me by dying only when I remove him.

I actually think that might remain & even increase. Many, especially the newbies, will pick under 80's. The balance of the whole picking idea will go toward younger candidates, so someone who might have been picked by say, three people, before will be picked just once - ie. Sir Edward Ford, to give a recently deceased example. Certainly I am more likely to go for people 80 plus & 90 plus who will be a unique hit (I hope) than risking it on someone younger. After all, in their 80's & a unique hit, will be as much as someone aged 70. and should that person die on the 13th..... I tried that (picking younger more famous people) in the Weatherman Dead Pool & I'm near the bottom of that one. Anyway, must go to bed now so here ends musings for now.

Same here... at the moment I'm veering on yes, but it all depends on other's conditions worsening. If it looks like a person (especially one that might be a unique hit) in their 70's or 80's looks particulary doomed, then I'll go for the 5/6 points (or whatever) than 3. Basically, I'm trying to fit 36 into 9 spots right now - I have 11 filled should they make it to 2007. Confirmation of the new rules will probably remove three more, but who to keep and who to drop of the other 33 or so is most puzzling... ie... Are Pavarotti, Forsythe, Fawcett, Pleshette, Magnusson cured/will be cured or not? Is Pinter near death or going to hang on for some years? Should I include Maurice Papon, Sargent Shriver and Yitzhak Shamir, all in their 90's?? and do my mystery picks prove worth putting in - they may well be a unique pick, but will they die??? Decisions.. Decisions.....

Oh, without a doubt. Precisely the reason I've left Richard Widmark off the list. I mean he shouldn't die in the next 13 months as there's not much wrong with him bar a bit of old age ailments & fraility. But until the new rules were suggested, I thought "Hmmm.. might do a Palance, I'll bung him in." Now, the 3 points don't make it worthwhile unless they're really odds on to die. (ie over 90 and ill - Shamir etc.) Likewise, Gloria Stuart, my arch-nemesis. I am now certain she will die next year as I've, for the first time, EVER removed her from a DDP entry. Lady Bird Johnson, Michael Foot, Phil Taylor, Mark Felt & Michelangelo Antonioni have likewise met OOO's cutting room floor. In... (well, I'm not revealing all) Barzan Al-Tikriti, Allen Carr, Geroge Melly & Ariel Sharon for sure, should they see out this year. Oh.. Tammy Faye too, though I still protest she's not famous enough.

Really? Well, left-brained is fine by me in that case.

    Not Exactly Famous...

Phyllis Fraser, widow of Bennett Cerf, cousin of Ginger Rogers, and a movie actress, journalist & publisher in her own right, has died. As seen here.

Following RK's announcement (that 85% back the new rules) then, the following are probably now not worth a go: Peter Copley, still acting at 91, Rev. Chad Varah still going to services weekly, David Renton, Lord Renton, who is still going to the Lords & driving at 98 yrs of age, as well as:- AI Bezzerides , screenwriter, b. 1908, and still sprightly & active, Rita Levi Montelcini , Nobel Prize winning scientist who is still going to debates at 97, Francisco Varallo , who still goes to football games, even though he's now 96, Kevin McCarthy , actor, who's still going to fan meets at 92 years of age and I M Pei , 90 next year, who is still designing buildings. Just trying to help clear the clutter.

No... Done what test? It all seems too much effort to me, I'd rather drink, eat, sleep & shag women instead. What side of the brain is that?

    Derby Dead Pool 2006

At the risk of sounding all snivelling henchman like, I think that's very fair. Sorry in advance, then. Bah humbug! Then let the newbies list all they can come up & those who are having trouble putting 41 in 20 places have extra!

What's wrong with Jan Lammers, MH? I know the guy well, he's charm personified, and has always been pleasant & open with me. Unlike Huub "twat" Rothengatter. Rotten A, if you're throwing alloy wheels at me, then you're a Southerner.

Ah, but later in that article, he claims he has been healed by God. We shall see. I have doubts over his fame, but I guess he'll get something in the broadsheets if nothing else.

Maybe on here, arguably, I head that way, but in life, I would have to be an allrounder. You don't work in customer service/motor racing all your working life and then have trouble comprehending emotions. In fact, I'm almost the complete opposite. I wonder why I come across so left-brained on here, but not generally day-to-day. Hmmm........ I'm not a fan of trains as it happens, so there goes one equation of the formula out of the window.

    The Chequered Flag

Eugene Martin, who was one of the last pre-war Grand Prix drivers, one of the oldest living Grand Prix drivers & one of only three survivors of the very first Grand Prix, has died, at his home, in Rochelle, France.

What's a left-brainer? I've asked this before & you never elaborated & then you buggered off for a bit so I couldn't ask again. and please don't put me in the same bracket, ever again, as Rotten Ali, thanks, Godot. For a start, I can spell basic words. The only system I have is putting some old/ill people on a shortlist, like almost everyone else here. Wish I'd never done you and Phantom a favour with that bloody I & P thread if "nerd" is all the thanks one gets..... grumble grumble grumble mutter But I must remember that you support Leeds United & thus delusions of grandeur & untold misery come into your life every week so I will let your dig go as it is clearly the rantings of someone who has suffered mental anguish beyond our comprehension.

    John Forsythe

Latest on Forsythe: out of hospital, into rehab facility & hopes to be home for Christmas. So, goody gumdrops. But he was in hospital far longer than hoped so maybe not out of the woods yet?

*sigh* What I meant to say jokingly, was by you criticising Putin you're next on his hit-list. I jokingly praised Putin as I want to live. Does that make sense now? What is rial? The only rials I know are Rial Wheels, German alloy wheel manufacturer & former F1 team or Middle Eastern currency. Rial. So if I call you a northerner, you'll throw money at me? Go for it boy, you're a Northerner 1,000,000 times over

    Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries Etc...2006

and apparently celebrations are already underway for his 100th. In the meantime, he's collecting awards, hobnobbing with the showbusiness stars of Hong Kong and going to funerals. Despite a bout of illness earlier this year, I think he'll make 100. Maybe this should be in the I & P's, not members birthdays thread?? Unless Sir RRS is a member of the DL?
  21. Octopus of Odstock

    Lady Bird Johnson

Yes, and in that photo, she looks quite well, it has to be said. However, I think the DL would be wise to keep her on the list. She seems to be doing better than someone of her fragility/age should be doing but that video clip showed a more realistic view of how she is than a still photo (wheelchair removed, make up on etc etc), I'm guessing.
  22. Octopus of Odstock

    Ideas and possibilities for 2007

She's now 94, but seems to be doing okay now after a bout of ill-health in her early 90's. She met up with Prince Philip at Buck Palace earlier this month and appears to be alert, have her wits about her & in good health & spirits right now. On the other hand, she has had heart-troubles, is in a wheelchair & a rest home, and is 94 after all. But with the DDP possibly bringing in a 90+ penalty rule, it's one I'm probably dropping, but I thought I'd mention just in case, because Sir Edward Ford was doing just grand until he died recently.......

Appeal Process under way In a way, non-news, but it makes an execution before January 1st that little less likely perhaps.
