Anyone know what happened to Graham Thorpe? year or so ago he was fighting for his life in hospital but since then there been a Schumacher+ level of secrecy, no updates, public appearances etc

Suicide attempt from depression was what I read. Then kept in to assess his mental well being thereafter.

  2. Bill Krause, one time Indy 500 attemptee, two-times winning mechanic of the Indy 500 (1981 and 1982) and an extremely able sportscar driver (winner of the 1958 and 1960 Riverside Grand Prix's, which attracted some of the best drivers at the time - Behra, Hill, Ginther etc.), died last week, due to complications of dementia and strokes.

I'm sure a legacy.com type obit will follow, not sure how much US motorsport media will pick this one up in truth. Just turned 91 at the start of the year.

Bit more about his racing here - http://www.tamsoldracecarsite.net/BillKrause.html

Thanks for all your hard work @Death Impends @Banana and @Grim Up North

I am full of appreciation and respect how much work, time, energy and passion you put into setting this up, running it and making it the amazing enjoyable  success that it is.

I take my hat of to you all.

Looking forward to seeing the 2024 Website unveiling  in the near future.

    Ditto. Fantastic work.

Patrick Murray gets a heavy fine for bad car parking.

Well, you haven't focused on the main bit of interest to us:

his cancer had returned. Sharing the tragic news with his fans, he said: "Despite all the wonderful efforts by the medical and nursing teams at Medway, Guys, and Kings College hospitals, the lung cancer has returned. I thought I had a painful groin strain a couple of months ago, unfortunately that turned out to be the cancer getting into my pelvis and leg bones."

He added: "It has also entered my lymphatic system. What about the good news? I had radiology treatment last week and my oncologist is fairly confident this will stop the leg pain, and I will be up and about again. Another positive is my consultant. He is confident that the chemo will keep things in check for months and even years

I'm getting Linda Nolan vibes here...

Died yesterday apparently. Her friends are paying tribute on social media.

My only reason for not picking Battersby (he was a sub) was because I didn't think he would get drop 40. Judging by the teams entered, that looks to be the case.

I'm sure the initial QO's will all be Beckinsale centered, but hopefully there's enough obits who concentrate on his very fine body of work.

Surprisingly not a DDP pick. He's the second sub on Sean's MP theme team, but that's the closest he came.

He was in my final 40, but as he seemed active and the blood cancer was under some level of control, I thought against it.

I'm surprised he didn't make it on someone's list, especially a theme team.

One of those rare beasts, a dedicated MP to his consistency and by all accounts, a decent chap. Sorry to read this.

He's probably about the only one left alive from that era.

The Duke of Kent perhaps? He was a nephew to the King, the only one at the time, if I'm correct.

But given the very different attitudes to Royal publicity then and now, I'm not sure how many people would've been aware of him as a wee lad.

As we all know, 90s chart regular and one of the few musicians to name themselves after a football manager who allegedly [deleted on legal reasons] Dario G is currently battling stage 4 rectal cancer. Mallorca Lee, of Ultrasonic and Public Domain, has "a matter of months" to live after being diagnosed with a terminal cancer of some sort. DJ Michael Bibi has given himself the "all clear" from CNS lymphoma, but probably worth keeping an eye on. And Matt James of Mashd N Kutcher has multiple myeloma, and doesn't sound too optimistic about his chances in interviews I've seen.

Enough for a thread I'd have thought.

James said on Instagram that his cancer is 'terminal but manageable'.

I think it's pretty clear from the article that it's Roy.

[Kate] "left his bedside to present an award at the glamorous showbiz ceremony in Beverly Hills before skipping the parties afterwards to head back to him and her family at the hospital."

Sorry, skim read it only, my fault.

I think he is still in hospital from his previous hospitalization, it’s not a new one.

Anyway, I don’t think he has much time left.

I am trying to work out if that means Judy Loe has been hospitalised or if Battersby is near the end (or both)

Darby in a video here. Now mostly wheelchair bound and definitely struggling to speak now. I think he'll still see 2025, but he's clearly on the downhill slope.

JPR Williams, who gained 55 caps for Wales and 8 for the British Lions, dead aged 74.

    Obituaries: BBC

One of my Granddad's favourites. He died before I was born but told my Dad that of all the players he watched in Welsh rugby since the 1930's, the very best two were JPR Williams and Gareth Edwards.

    A sad day today.

Quite. Doesn't he have his own thread? If not, should this one be retitled to make it officially a Top Gear thread?

If this is the official Top Gear thread, then former long-time Top Gear producer and also former local politician Ken Pollock has died. Only seems to be on X right now (Tiff Needell has paid tribute) but I'm sure the link to serving his community will get him a local obit.

Link below is from 2016 to get some perspective of who he was. https://www.redditchadvertiser.co.uk/news/14977052.councillor-who-launched-his-own-tv-production-firm-calls-new-business-owners-brave-and-courageous/

Ex Rangers 'Star' is a bit of a stretch to put it mildly, played just once.

    Nevertheless, hope he pulls through.

Those with an asterix have either a good or outside chance at an obituary - The Times, Telegraph and Guardian usually have good form for providing these.

Thanks for this. The BBCs sports Personality of the year round-up would cover most of the above, although most will QO anyway.

Georgina Hale, British character actress, reportedly died earlier this month according to Wikipedia. Mentioned in the Dr Who thread. There is a report of her death on Facebook also but doesn’t let me link it.

What an illustrious resume she had, on stage, TV an film and yet the thing I probably best remember her for is playing the second T-Bag...
