Astronaut Wally Schirra has died at the age of 84 Edited to put correct spelling of "Schirra"

A shame, I remember him well in London's Burning & other programmes. 49, again, no age at all I don't remember that character at all. I watched it for a few years when it started, then I lost track when I started working evening shifts and would always forget to tape it. I think the last episode I watched was when the character of Vaseline drowned trying to rescue someone, but that's all I can remember.

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2007

How did I manage to miss that one?

There's loads now (45 minutes later):- here's one, for example I wonder if Pleshette, also ill from cancer, will go soon as well after her husband's death? Another hit (obit depending, but that shouldn't be a problem) for the DDP (and They Died but Left Me In Charge's 5th hit), but Canadian Paul didn't choose him on that one - a bit unfortunate really, as CP was the main one to propose him as a decent candidate. Also half-an-argument that he should've been a DL candidate, I suppose, but again it is harsh to blame Dl for missing him out. Thanks OoO, I even had a quick check for an obit before I left work (about 15 minutes after submitting the post) by the time I got home there were quite a few obits and his death was even reported on the CNN crawler. Pleshette seems to be going back and forth with her health. I heard a radio interview with her a couple of months ago and she seems fine, quite confident in her battle against cancer. But who knows when it will start to wear her out.

I just heard on the radio that Tom Poston has died at the age of 85 I'll try and find a link a bit later as there doesn't seem to be one apart from wikipedia

I thought we had him on the list for this year.

I'll argue that statement. I think it's safe to say that no actresses aborigine or otherwise ever appeared on Prisoner Cell Block H. thats unfair-there were a lot of very good actors and actresses on PCBH,and some really good story lines too.OK it had its fair share of duds but they were in the minority.Watch some episodes(the whole series is curently being released on DVD)-you'lbe hooked in no time! I very much doubt I'll be hooked, I watched a few episodes to while away the hours when I worked security. I was never hooked, I'd watch them if I forgot the book I was reading at home

an interesting combo - the former sportsman/woman turned actor/actress. A list would include: - Jim Brown - OJ Simpson - Pele, Bobby Moore, Ossie Ardilles et al in "Victory" (although that was only barely acting) - Esther Williams and others of those swimmer women who went on to make the synchronised swimming films of the 40's and 50's - Johnny Weismuller, one of the Tarzans, was an Olympic swimmer - Harald Sakata who played Oddjob in Goldfinger was a boxing or weightlifting medallist - Mitch Gaylord The above is a bit Yankcentric at the moment, so DL'ers from around the world, please feel free to add. And before anyone makes snide remarks about wrong thread, quite a few of the above are dead, and as no one off the DL is dying this year I say the more off topic the post, the better. Ronnie, Don't forget Bruce Bennet too, he was an olympic shot putter and turned to acting in the early 30s

I removed him from my list too. Thinking that he looked fine albeit a tad frail.Other than that he seemed to be in good spirits and not likely to drop dead for at least another year. Weird though, i just lent a copy of Slaughterhouse Five to a work colleague of mine only yesterday

I named my sons Robert Leander and David Royce. I must be the most boring mother in the US. One of my wife's co-workers named her son AlexZander. And no it's not a typo. the A and the Z are intended to be in uppercase

Surely "most successful" would be better, Phantom? A unique DDP choice, I wonder if he'll get an obit from the UK? Probably will actually as; 1) The Guardian 2) There's been very few famous deaths lately. Yeah, "most successful" would be a better expression. The phrase "winningest" was coined sometime between 1970 and 1975 to describe Eddie Robinson. But you know the Americans, they'll always drag up some contrived word. You only have to look at the list of names of children at the local nursery / kindergarten to see how they've butchered the English language.

American Football coach Eddie Robinson has died at the age of 88. I hate the word, but he's been described as the "winningest" coach in history.

He is said to be big in America... I remember seeing an interview with his manager a few years ago about when Inman was touring America. Inman was placed in a non-smoking room by mistake, so his manager went to the receptionist and said "could Mr Inman be moved to a smoking room as he always enjoys a good fag first thing in the morning"
