damn, I forgot to put Friedman on that list. At least I have him in the sweepstake and draft pools here at home. As things stand, I'm 2nd place in the sweepstake and 1st in the draft so if things stay as they are I'm set to win $35

This Milton Friedman, you mean? That's not ours. I failed to find any other report on the web. regards, Hein It's on the crawler on the BBC website. It is the economist who has died

Shame about Dessie! Being the pernickety kind, I went to check the bios of the 3 abovementioned to see if they had died at aged 27, as MPFC suggests. I used that admirable site "Wikipedia" (tag line "bastion of all that is irrefutable"). The results were as follows: Janis Joplin January 19, 1943 - October 4, 1970 Kurt Donald (tee-hee!) Cobain February 20, 1967 - c. April 5, 1994 So they check out, then Jim Morrison "he is a singer" WTF?!!! Check for yourselves. Even that isn't right (surely it should say "was"). I'm sure they'll update the link... eventually, but that's the sum total of information they have on the "Lizard King" at the moment! I got this page on a redirect when I clicked on your link, but when I searched for "James Morrison" I got a link to the page you referenced. A lot of Doors fans are still in denial and insist that Jim Morrison is still alive. Given that Morrison was influenced by the works of Rimbaud they feel that he faked his own death to escape the limelight. Coupled with the fact that Pamela Courson and the coroner who signed the death certificate were the only ones to have seen his body that drives the rumour even further.

In fact, one might conjecture that he's dead. I think his dad would be disappointed that he only made it to 93 rather than 95

It's already hitting the headlines the day before he's due to beat Reagan's record CNN did a quick report on him earlier this morning

Former Olympic gold medalist Annette Kelly has died at the age of 93 She won gold medals at the 1932 and 1936 Olympic games for the 400m relay

Too slow. Here it is. There goes another potential hit for 07. Is it me or do you have a better chance predicting someone to 'go' between 80-90 rather than from 90-100? All I know is that the moment I pencil someone in on my list for next year, they'll die within a couple of weeks.

Jack Palance has died, I'll post a link in a moment

Diana Coupland has died at the age of 74

Complete unknown in Britain though. Only the Guardian (so far) has reported his death, but they'll cover any death it seems. I'd only really heard of him from when he interviewed Bob Dylan earlier this year. The reporters on 60 Minutes are held in high esteem over here, Ed Bradley was one of the first major black news reporters in the US and because of his coverage of the Vietnam war he earnt his reputation in journalism.

Ed Bradley of '60 Minutes' dies of leukemia at the age of 65 edited to say:- Just noticed CP posted the same info in the "60 Minutes" thread. I forgot there was a seperate one going [Posts moved from the Not Exactly Famous Thread - ff]

According to the Wiki article you posted, which I admit may mean shite, she has HAD lung & throat cancer & what she has today is a legacy of both. But the wording of The Daily Mail article (who I concede are about as familiar with the truth as Wikipedia) states "She is 53 now and frail from the throat cancer which spread to her lungs two years ago". Which suggested to me that she HAS rather than HAD cancer. There was nothing in the article which implied that she had beaten these ailments. The wikipedia article implies that she may have conquered the cancer. But then again it just says she was treated for cancer, but doesn't state whether or not it was successfull. I'm inclined to believe the latest article

They had better wrap his current trial up pretty sharpest if he's to be hanged by the end of the year. What do you think of his chances of being found not guilty on charges of genocide?
-
Puskas has his own thread where his current health status is being discussed. As far as I'm aware Forsyth and Kendall are in good health although out of those two my money would be on Kendall as the first to go. Anna Wing is still alive, I believe she's 95 at the moment and still crops up from time to time in minor roles on tv. [Links added -- MH]

That would explain how the US has gotten away with that sort of thing for such a long time

It would take a lot to make a coffin to accomodate the costume What about Mr Snuffleupagus? Or how about the actor who plays Oscar the Grouch.. would he get buried in his trash can?
-
The main question would be "would he earn a UK obit"? He falls into the same sort of category as Thurl Ravenscroft (voice of Tony the Tiger from the Kellogs Frosties ads).

I'm surprised that GMTV haven't run a special report on her. -
I guess the Iraqi's are not satisfied with one guilty verdict. It's really an open & shut case on this one too. They'll have to wrap this case up pretty quickly if they're to follow through with the first guilty verdict. I could be wrong but the only appeal that I remember reading about that Saddam would go through with is more to be executed by firing squad rather than to be hanged. He more or less said that if he were to be found guilty that is the way he'd want to go. My understanding is that hanging is for your average person in the street, whereas firing squad executions are reserved for military leaders. I am a little confused though with the reason for the 2nd trial and why they didn't just integrate it all in the same trial. Wasn't the first one the charge of "crimes against humanity" and this one is on the charge of "genocide"? Aren't they really one and the same? I guess that crimes against humanity is wide ranging whereas Genocide is pretty specific. As when the Spanish inquisition condemened the entire population of the Netherlands to death in 1568, there would need to be proof of intent. The Duke of Alava was sent to do the deed but the Dutch were unco-operative. Many died nonetheless. This has to be my favourite Saddam quote so far

Looks like a case of suicide

I think I mentioned Tony Hart earlier in the year, although it was more of an enquiry as to his current health status. I remember a televised interview with him a couple of years ago and he looked a little frail even then and he was no spring chicken when he did Take Hart

He's pretty much in semi-retirement these days. He came out of the woodwork the other month to give his backing to Katie Couric.

French orchestra leader Paul Mauriat has died at the age of 81

I reckon he'll get a $5000 fine and 300 hours of community service that involves clearing rubbish from Central Park with Boy George
