Anubis, Nah, he's just shameless about picking really old celebs on his selections. I think the youngest he's chosen this year is 89 and that's Herbert Lom two are over 100 and the rest range between 94 and 98 years of age.

Avast, Me Hearties! It Be Talk Like A Pirate Day!
Phantom replied to Star Crossed's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
A pirate with the name of Giles? Bwhahahahhaha Arrr! That be irony Phantom's employin' thar, or I'll be swabbing the deck by moonlight in me sister's bloomers. Arrr, 'n' this'll be saaarcasm, 'n' all! Anubis, the Jackal of the high seas, get yerself a flagon 'o' rum fer that gem. Star Crossed, no it's called a straight forward laugh at the thought of a pirate called Giles. You've obviously obtained a different dictionary than everyone else It seems that instead of just having fun, you try to resort to personally directed insults in an attempt to drive away anyone who disagrees with you. -
Not even his wikipedia entry has his death updated, so I guess he died without anyone noticing

Saddam's trial judge 'replaced'

Even if they are, we wouldn't have heard of any of them, and they'll snuff it before 1 Jan, so all I can say is execute away! What a load of wusses. Sounds like they've been overthrown without fighting back. In what ABC news stated as being a "bloodless coup" Damn! coups are like they use to be when I were a lad...

I'm tempted to buy a copy of James Earl Jones reads the Bible. just for the sheer hell of owning it. It'll go right alongside of my copy of Roddy McDowell reads short stories by H.P. Lovecraft

just call me Mad Harry Rackham Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. You have the good fortune of having a good name, since Rackham (pronounced RACKem, not rack-ham) is one of the coolest sounding surnames for a pirate. Arr! -
I completely understand that and I would do exactly the same in your position. I just wanted everyone to know I wasn't making stuff up and I wasn't listening to wild rumors. I had solid sources close to the situation who let me know what I knew. It was just a matter of time before it came out. I still don't know why it was being kept secret for so long. Perhaps I'll find out now. In any event, I'm following up on the age question, because I was told directly he was born in 1904. We'll see if that one comes through also, or perhaps was off. In any event, I wanted to let you all know where I was coming from in case you had occasion to depend on my site's reliability in the future. Good luck with your game. Game? Game? What do you mean "game"? It's an education, it's fun, it's a complete lifestyle man! I'll give you game! I think Kent was referring to the sweepstake dead pool that I do the updates for. With $180 up for grabs it's important we get an obituary for each death. Especially since my father-in-law has won it 3 times in a row so far and I believe 5 times in the past 6 years

I do hope you're referring to Lady Thatcher (Mark Thatcher's estranged wife) rather than Baroness Thatcher

Hi Kent, I was 99% sure that your sources were reliable. It's a bit like with the DDP (Derby Dead Pool) where in order to earn the points we need an official obituary on a news site or an online newspaper. I'd be interested to find out what his true age actually is. Why don't you sign up on this site? Your sources and insight will be very beneficial. Many thanks Phantom

I had Robert Earl Jones on my original list that I had submitted. good job I had a back-up pick chosen. I've got in the habit of doing that recently as soon as I contemplate putting someone on my list, they go ahead and die.
-
Well that certainly puts my mind at rest. and not puts my father-in-law in first place on our sweepstake dead pool looks like he'll win for the 4th year in a row
-
Kent, I'm not making any accusations, I just have to have some official confirmation on this as our dead pool has $180 prize money at stake. So each selection made needs to be backed up by some sort of obituary. I trust your source is reliable, I'm just doing this for peace of mind.

Unfortunately they stopped that just recently. They still have the horses, though, which are good for doing PR shoots with etc. It won't be too long before we have a limited edition Young's glue, however, once they can't maintain the we-still-deliver-by-dray pretence... awww that's a shame. It was a real pain though if you were on the bus on a monday morning stuck behind the horse & cart. I remember they used to deliver all the way down to The Castle in Tooting and across to the Half Moon in Putney. Tom their Shetland pony is really sweet, I got to feed him which was great fun.

Young's brewery are situated just 3 miles from where I grew up. Last time my wife and I went to London we went on the brewery tour. I have a couple of bottles of Young's Winter Warmer in my fridge as well as a couple of bottles of Double Chocolate Stout. They still deliver the barrels of beer by horse & cart to every Young's pub within a 3 mile radius of the brewery. Alphonsin, do you have a web link for that? Edited to say: just found the report in The Telegraph

If anyone can be bothered to read it They'll probably drone on about how brave their mother is.. etc etc

ermmmm I'll bite. who is she? Tony Blair's daughter. She took an overdose when she was 16 in 2004, but it was kept hushed-up. Ahh, well I'm sure she'd make the news if she was to die by suicide. As for fame value I don't know if she'd qualify for the DL, but I've a feeling she might qualify for the DDP. Usually I wouldn't permit relatives of famous people to be chosen for my dead pool although relatives of former and current world leaders are acceptable.

I knew I'd read that someone mentioned a possible Kennedy death could be on the cards. Nice going PDM
-
ok, I've emailed the webmaster of the Earl Jones Institute to see if anyone can confirm either way. Not entirely confident I'll get a reply but it's worth a try.

couldn't find him mentioned, but Pablo Santos actor who starred in the tv series Greetings from Tuscan was killed in a plane crash at the weekend. He was 19

I don't think he should have apologised. I'm sure many Catholics were offended by Halibuts burning images of the Pope, their leader. I'm pretty sure that they were offended by the gunning down of an elderly nun working for a childrens charlty in Somalia. However, at the end of the day, no Halibut has apologised for these more aggressive and cruel acts. Windsor, I don't think he should apologise either way really. I just find it daft that the pope comes out and says that Mohammed advocated violence etc, and then some Halibuts have basically come out and it's been a case of "we're not violent and we'll kill anyone that says we are" It was more of the popes phrasing of his apology afterwards

I find it amusing that Pope Benedict apologised for the reaction caused by his comments and not for the comments that he made.

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries Etc...2006
Phantom replied to Tuber Mirum's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Happy birthday, Six. Hope it's a fun one for you Just noticed it's your 33rd, in 4 months time you can have a 33 1/3 birthday. My wife baked me a cake in the shape of a record for mine She says she'll do the same when I'm 45 and when I'm 78 (if I live that long) -
I'm sure someone posted in one of the threads that they were thinking there would be a Kennedy related death this weekend. I had no idea Patricia Kennedy was still alive. I thought Ted Kennedy and Eunice Kennedy Shriver were the only ones left of the main Kennedy clan
