Betty Driver Memorial Soapstar Superstar Thread

octopus, I think you'll find that what I was trying to say was that usually with a much loved character that they've discussed with the show's producers / directors that rather than have the character move away somewhere they have them die in a way that's most befitting to the character they portray as a fitting tribute to the character that is much loved by the show's viewers. Eg Alf Roberts played by Brian Mosley. He discussed with the show's producers and directors and it was agreed that as the actor himself was unable to continue that they would write him off. The actor himself then died 2 months later after the episode was screened, although probably in reality it was about 6 months after the episode was actually recorded Lynne Perrie was actually sacked from the show, so her character was killed off after it transpired that she had run off to a nunnery. The case with Betty Driver is that we all know the character (Betty Turpin) & the actress are in the autumn of their years and their appearances are becoming less frequent. Rather than have some sappy storyline that they've moved to Devon or where-ever to be with family they would have them die around their friends Look at the character of Ethel in Eastenders, ok they killed Ethel off a couple of years before Gretchen Franklin herself passed away, but she was away for a bit and then came back as she was a much loved character -
I believe a lot of the costs rely largely on fundraising events. The Royal Variety Performance raises a lot of the cash for the upkeep of the home

It's certainly helped me search a lot more and confirmed more celebrities some that I'm surprised to see are still alive yet have drifted from the limelight and others that I was surprisesd to have found out that they had died a while ago. One I found out recently.. was Ron Pickering, apparantly he died shortly after the show "We Are The Champions" was taken off the air

blimey, he was only 61? he certainly crammed a lot into his career if he played on over 80 albums

The site for Brinsworth House states that it accommodates 36 residents, so who else apart from Dickie O is at the house?
-
I hope Dicky O got a mention in the wiki reference too

Johnny Walker was doing fine when he introduced John Otway at the London Palladium a couple of years ago.

Such a sad loss, I remember Henry McGee appearing on stage with the Honey Monster during the interval at the panto Aladin that starred Cilla Black.

There was some real crap that got into the top 10 even back when Dunny released that single

everybody thought it was cute at the time to have a choir of children singing along with the chorus. Although who couldn't forget how totally annoying that toothless girl who sang the lead in "Grandma (We love you)" for the St Winifred's School Choir

perhaps if they write Betty off like they did with Bryan Mosley (Alf Roberts) then we should put her on the list. Mosley was written off on the NY's episode 98/99 of Corrie then passed away just a few months later -
ahhh I knew Rod Hull was fixing his tv ariel, but wasn't aware it was for a porn channel.

she died just a day before the start of National Black History Month here in the U.S.

even though women tend to outlive their partners on average by at least 4 years sometimes people who are/were married often die close to each other. After all didn't Bernie Winters die about the same time as Schnorbitz ?

Hackenslash, I'm all for those with the exception of a Pam St Clement thread *shudders*

can the moderators delete the articles that caused the thread to be closed if we promise to be on our best behaviour and not be sidetracked by the thought of Hayley Mills *knee trembles* but instead direct any indecent thoughts to Sally Thompset, Paula Wilcox and Tessa Wyatt?

handrejka That's correct, there is a version of Walk On The Wild Side on that album. He's done a number of cover versions, along with "I Feel Good", "Bad Moon Rising" ,"Great Balls of Fire" , "Roadhouse Blues" , "Honky Tonk Women" , "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and also "Wild Thing" He does a good version of Alanis Morissette's "One Hand In My Pocket" on his album "Can You Tell What It Is Yet?"

I think I'll use Reuters from now on as they seems to be updated more frequently with some news articles
