After being active in the film industry for over forty years as an 'actor' 'producer' and 'director' various rumors tell us that he might have terminal cancer. Pollack definitely meets the fame requirements and after most recently appearing in 'Entorage' 'The Soprano's' and for films 'The Interpreter' he has vanished from the spot light and I think he fits the criteria of a prime candidate. Anybody agree or disagree? We need take on this.

She was 87. Day died of natural causes Saturday at her daughter's home in Utah, where she moved following the death of her husband of 47 years, producer Michel M. Grilikhes, earlier this year, said publicist Dale Olson. Day starred opposite Joel McRea in 1940's "Foreign Correspondent" and also appeared in such films as "Mr. Lucky," "I Take This Woman," "The Story of Dr. Wassell," "My Dear Secretary" and "The High and the Mighty." She appeared in her last movie, "The Third Voice" in l960, the year she married Grilikhes. During a break in her film career, Day co-starred on a national theater tour with Gregory Peck in "Angel Street," and also took the stage in "Lost Horizon," 'The Women" and "Time of the Cuckoo." In 1951, Day became one of U.S. television's first female talk show hosts in "The Laraine Day Show." More, at above link.

Banned from leaving Pakistan. Might be worth a thread in her honour from now on, her political marriage of convenience with their current head of state has pissed off many of her fellow Pakistanis, the Taliban are revving up for a fight with.....well, anyone who doesn't agree with them and those corruption allegations haven't gone away. All this and her vocal mob of supporters keep rallying round her and winding up her enemies. How safe is she without the chance to hop off abroad?

One Italian music maestro dies, another arrives to take his place. The legendary conductor Claudio Abbado has cancelled all of his upcoming gigs for health reasons. http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5jO85a-...9x3Yd1VMr74KePQ Abbado had a nasty bout of stomach cancer in 2000 and had much of his digestive tract removed. I've got a good feeling about this one.

Merv Griffin, American entertainment magnate and host of the Merv Griffin Show is apparently in intensive care after his prostate cancer returned in July. He is in "grave condition" at Cedars-Sinai. He will likely be gone in the next couple of days in my opinion.

Anybody know if Hua Guofeng is still around? Born 1921, took over from Mao Tse-Tung as head of China, before being out-manoevred politically by Den Xiaoping. So I've read.

Barbara Kent, one of the last surviving Holywood actresses from the silent era, is 101 in December and in very frail health. If she lasts the year, I would strongly recommend the moderators include her on next year's list. Very attractive lady in her prime too.

Ned has been absent from Radio 4 for months now due to what has been termed a "paralysed vocal cord". He has been replaced both on Loose Ends and Counterpoint since before Christmas. There are a lot of mutterings (I can put it no stronger than that) that he is in fact quite seriously ill. Does anyone have any more information? I'll try to find out more.
