    Cora Vaucaire

<disclaimer>I think this will be a very quiet thread but what the hell? </disclaimer> I have just been listening to the *absolutely lovely* French singer, Cora Vaucaire. and I decided to look her up. To my surprise, she is still alive, having been born in 1921. Do any French speaking Death Listers have more info on her health? For those who want to listen to Madam Vaucaire at her best, I recommend her version of Prevert's song, "Demons et Merveilles." (Just trying to add a touch of class to DeathList!)

    Aretha Franklin

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Soul singer Aretha Franklin on Thursday canceled all of her appearances until next spring on the orders of doctors. Franklin, 68, the "Queen of Soul" who famously sang at President Barack Obama's inauguration in 2009, pulled out of all concert and personal appearances "at the insistence" of her doctors until May 2011, her publicist said. The decision comes on the heels of the multiple Grammy winner being released from a Detroit hospital on October 30th, where she had admitted for undisclosed reasons. "The award winning songstress sends her sincerest apologies to her loyal followers and colleagues for the canceled shows," the statement read. "Ms. Franklin is resting comfortably at home, but is very anxious to get back on the road to perform for her countless fans around the world," it added. In August, Franklin canceled two concerts after suffering a fall that left her with a couple of broken ribs...

    Leon Russell

I'm sad to report that singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist Leon Russell is in hospital after undergoing brain surgery. He has had recent health issues including a "brain fluid leak and treatment for heart failure and pneumonia", which doesn't sound too good. As well as preforming as a solo artist, he is probably as well known for his session work in the 60s and 70s, when he appeared on albums recorded by just about everyone. He is also the owner of a very fine beard, which would give ZZ Tops' efforts a run for their money IMO.
