Seriously?

Ok, before we start hating...

1. We have a Back to the Future one. The last BTTF was in the same decade as the first Star Wars so I would say that it was reasonable. I just think you like to be critical of me not because of what I post but just because it's me posting it, Mr Bearer.

2. We have an OT cast, lets complete the set.

3. Someone said on the BTTF thread that all of this is for record keeping (think it was Toast). So yeah the prequels are famous enough for the same treatment as BTTF.

Far be it from me to pre-empt Mr Bearer's response, but I suspect the general answers to your points would be:

1. BTTF Part III came out in 1990, SW Ep. I came out in 1999, 6 months earlier for the first or later for the second and they're not in the same decade, and comparing like for like it's 15 years either way 1985-1999 or 1990-2005, which is significant.

2. If we're going to have an OT thread and a prequel thread, then I look forward to the sequel thread, only then will we have completed the set (Max von Sydow's dead, so we've already got a strike!) And before you say they're too recent, we have a Harry Potter thread and the last one of those (even discounting Fantastic Beasts) came out just 4 years before the first SW sequel.

3. Not a big fan of the BTTF thread, mainly because while the movies are enjoyable I've never really got their cult status, but I can vaguely understand a thread for them given one of the two leads is over 80 and the other has a progressive neurodegenerative disorder. Anyway, I'm all for record keeping, useful to have lists of possible choices and somewhere to strike people off as they fall, but if you really wanted to do this, couldn't you have put it in the other thread given its title is just 'Star Wars Deaths'? There are only 5 names on your list older than the youngest person who's died so far (Peter Mayhew) and of those, 2 of them are covered by the OT anyway (as are 2 of the 4 deaths from the prequel trilogy too).

Also: this is in the Dead Pools section, not the Deathlist Forum.

Anyway, this is probably longer than Paul's eventual response.

That was the UK Singles thread, which is a far wider-ranging subject.

No.  Threads like this are for recording events, not for "fun".

If you want to create a prediction or sweepstake thread or some other competition, put it in the Deadpools forum.

I stand corrected but the context was you were actually arguing against the thread, and proposing it be a deadpool/prediction thread instead ......

Another reason for the thread is that the prequels are largely relevant today, as far as memes and news goes...

Darth Maul has posted a video on his instagram of him having his 'lightsaber' polished/sucked by his wife, first speculation was revenge porn and now she said his account was hacked

Not a main character but Margaret Towner (1920–2017) who played Jira in the Phantom Menace is another who is dead.

Has since become a bit of a meme online with her random storm's coming line.

Prequel memes will never get old.

Also found out she was in Derek (by Ricky Gervais) where she played one of the old people in the home.

Can we stop this petty argument and just let the thread exist and use it for when it becomes appropriate?

I agree it's somewhat premature, there are many film franchises from before the Star Wars prequels that haven't been covered and are more deserving of a thread given the age of their respective casts. HOWEVER, given that much of the conversation on Deathlist seems to have descended into irrelevant rubbish like Trump's presidency, Kanye West's online rants, or whether or not the "Grim Reaper" is a "super strong enema" this year, anything remotely on topic is a welcome change.
