Beirut Explosion

Recommended Posts

You'd assume from that video footage we're talking in the 100s of deaths in Beirut today. Local terrorism? Israel? Incompetence?

The commentary on that clip mentions a firework factory.  Fire followed by the explosion.

Feel like "firework factory" might be a euphemism here for "place where Hezbollah were storing a metric shit-tonne of weaponry"

I wouldn't know, just saying what I heard the reporter say.

Maybe a fireworks factory was caught up in the blast but it's too powerful to have started there. Many people tlaking of it being like a nuclear blast.Could nuclear material have been stored there? Or could this even be the first ISIS dirty bomb?  https://news.sky.com/story/lebanon-explosion-building-torn-apart-after-massive-blast-in-port-area-of-beirut-12042488

Could this be an overreaction to the deaths of Stirling Moss, Vera Lynn and Olivia de Havilland?:P;)

Doubt it's Nuclear. Too many milling about no problem in the aftermath

It looks like a flashover related explosion from an ongoing fire akin to the one in Halifax Canada in 1917 which killed 2000 people. If the death tolls low folk were really lucky here tbh.

That explosion is incredible. My god. How many people would we estimate to have died? Not trying to make games of out this. Really curious if we are in the high of 1000s or 3-400.

If it's south of 200 I'd be stunned. The only thing stopping me make a guess is I have no idea how Beirut is laid out.

They are now saying that many thousands are dead or injured. This is without doubt the biggest catastrophe since 911.A world changing event. We should pray for    the many dead from todays catacysm.I admit I am deeply shocked by what has happened today. I never thought I would live to see this sort of thing.  https://news.sky.com/story/lebanon-large-explosion-heard-in-capital-beirut-12042456

Approximately 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate were in storage, according to recent news reports. That's significantly more than the amount of ammonium nitrate involved in the Texas City explosion of 1947.
