Very shocking.

I have no idea if he was a good or bad politician or man but he looked like a nice man. No family should lose a member in such a horrific way.

RIP.

Let us all hope that what appears to be a homemade double barrelled shot gun can not be easily replicated around the world.

This is going to be celebrated in both Korea and China. Internal politics aside, Abe was a committed nationalist who believed that Japan did nothing wrong in WW2, refuted to admit they were wrong during Nanjing, said the "comfort women" were never kidnapped/raped, and attended a yearly honoring of the worse of the Japanese war criminals. His maternal grandfather was literally known as the Butcher of Nanjing for his role in WW2.

To East and Southeast Asia, he was basically the equivalent of a German Chancellor saying Hitler was right.

I wonder why it isn’t being widely reported yet. Not doubting that he died at all but I wonder how long they will take to make an official announcement.

Also notable in the economic world for trying to create some inflation in Japan after decades of stagnation. His "Abenomics" had an effect for 2-3 years before things went back to zero. Even now, Japan's inflation is fairly neglectable in comparison with outher countries.

I wonder though what the motivation was to kill him.

Did they catch the assassin?  If he's still available there might be more work for him.

From what I can figure from reports + social media, it was a right-wing ex-military guy who was upset Abe's policies when he was in charge weren't right wing enough

That's the problem when you try to court fanatics - you can never be fanatic enough.

Possibility of Donald Trump making his first overseas trip post presidency to attend the funeral. The two were known to be close.

Seems likely.

We could easily see Johnson May and Cameron all going out of respect.
