Li Guang, one of the last founding Major Generals of PLA, dead at 106. Don't know how many are left, way less than ten (so not as Tuskegee airmen) with the eldest being 107. Three of them died in recent months.

In a previous article (when another one died last month) all their names and ages were available. None of them had an en wiki page and Li Guang was one of the few to have a zh Wiki page.

Lost everything and was imprisoned for his stance. R.I.P to a true hero.

He was hospitalized last year in critical conditions with heart failure and complications from diabetes, but he was still closely watched in the hospital. He was apparently discharged and came back home, though bedridden. He died this morning by choking on food. Will likely get NYT treatment, but no military honours at all. Whereas Tienanment butcher Chi Haotian will get a state funeral. That's life.

Telegraph death notice for Lt-Cdr Michael Hordern, who has died aged 101.

Local paper discussing his 99th birthday a few years back. Nearly died shortly before this birthday after a mobility scooter crash, after which he had to be airlifted to hospital!

Pretty remarkable life. Served as a Lieutenant Commander of the Fleet during World War II. News to me that Britain had anyone that high up the command chain from WWII still kicking about. Perhaps there are others?

Dead. Last main commander of Portugal in it's war against liberation movements.

Quite a personality, weeped at the funeral of authoritarian leader Antonio de Oliveira Salazar (1889-1970), involved in coups and allegedly worked with/for terrorist organizations, tried to seize power to become "Portugal's Fidel Castro" but didn't succeed.

He was also the chief strategist of the 1974 Carnation Revolution that caused the dissolution of Americo Tomas's (1894-1987) Estado Novo.

Former Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces from 1989 to 2016 and later advisor to the Supreme Leader, Hassan Firouzabadi has died aged 70.

Known for this weird claim he made in 2018:

"Several years ago, some individuals came to Iran... In their possessions were a variety of reptile desert species like lizards, chameleons... We found out that their skin attracts atomic waves and that they were nuclear spies who wanted to find out where inside the Islamic Republic of Iran we have uranium mines and where we are engaged in atomic activities"
