Deathrace 2021

I had her! Her death is confirmed on Wikipedia and by bloggers who knew her.

My 2021 list is

Jacquie Beltrao

Tim Bilton

Dai Davies

David Gulpilil

Sarah Harding

Rush Limbaugh

Gerd Muller

Bob Newhart

Nichelle Nichols

Linda Nolan

Tom Parker

Prunella Scales

Yoo Sang-Chul

Kathy Shaidle - dead

Tom Smith

Leon Spinks

Barnard Tapie

Barbara Walters

Paul Westphal - dead

Catherine Wreford

Aye...

So, let's be clear - I've put Shaidle points up for everyone who entered the Deathrace and bagged her. That's provisional because I'm fairly sure some site like The Sunday Visitor (where she blogged) will eventually pick her up. Best of a very bad job obit wise atm is this rather shoddy write up - https://the-1000-year-view.com/

Which - even as a dead pool host hell bent on carnage and a points avalanche - I'm suggesting doesn't meet the less than exacting standards of this pool. I'm guessing a specialist site with a religious angle will come good and/or a local paper or news organization in Ontario. The link above is to a religious blog that states: "The Thousand-Year View applies time-tested ideas to the problems of our modern era."

The Shaidle shenanigans are slightly complicated because - she's on my Deathrace team, so I'm going to be seen to set some standard here. No pressure but... we're looking for an obit we can defend on the grounds below. If I don't see one by the end of the week, or Shaidle points suddenly come into play to decide the winner, then I'll deduct them without a better obit than the stuff that's out there as of this moment.

9 - An "obit" in the context of the Deathrace is any news report in English from a reliable source. Such sources include - but are not limited to - UK national press, UK national broadcast organisations, foreign press and broadcast organisations with an English language thread to their communication, trade press in English, local news organisations reporting in English and coverage in specialist online sites, such as those monitoring the well-being of super-centenarians. Where dispute arises over the qualifying nature of a news source for obit purposes MPFC's decision is final. But he wants fast and furious competition and is generally very amenable to low hanging dead pool fruit of all varieties.

I think that I may have discovered a cure for Covid-19!

If someone is in a dire state in ICU, I just need to put them on my deathrace or cup team, then sit back and watch them make a miraculous recovery. At very least, I will prolong their life by a few months. It's not fool-proof, but it seems pretty damn close.

Shaidle - got a mention on a site mainly devoted to tourist information for New York - https://www.askanewyorker.com/

Absolutely on the margins of acceptable specialist site for obits - but she's edging up from dire obit quality towards pretty bad.

And in other news - it's fairly clear that Nick Hitchon died on 11 Jan - completely confident that proper obits will follow in this case so the points are down on the scoreboard already - which gives us some excitement at the top end

K2 Team Update

Posted as a unique opportunity to get a report on the condition of a full Death Race team in one place.

Camp 2 destroyed by high winds - no one there - all expeditions at risk.

I don't expect anyone to be interested but one thing I picked up from today's report is that one of the mad fuckers isn't content with climbing K2 in the winter (which has never been done) but is also planning to paraglide off the top!

I hope you win just for the outside of the box thinking

Hmm - so one of the sources I found is already down (within an hour) - the other is deaddeath.com which is suspect. Okay, I'll take the points down for now

Should I have 1000 odd points now if Kathy Shaidle has been counted?

It looks like my cure for Covid-19 may not be as reliable as I thought yesterday. Bogdan Stanoevici has died to give me a unique hit.

Ex-minister dies following COVID-19 infection – The Romania Journal

On it - and that's Deathrace magic right there, clearly a reliable English news source but also one that could likely use a better proof reader when it translates - "The former actor-minister was a coronavirus skeptical, " etc.

Captain Chorizo - 1446

An Fear Beag - 1439

Only two people listed him but they're both on the podium - An Fear Beg now one hit away from a winning total

Aye, sorry - I'll get it right if you smash the winning total, promise!

Just had a trawl round a few randoms on the masterlist - everyone still breathing amongst my sample.

Though fuck knows how when you see the state of one or two of them. Appears likely we'll stumble into week three at this rate!

A famous person, in a state, recently!

Tom V Mike Miller Jr - what a name - dead. A boomerang pick of sorts, was in the Cup a few years ago. Anyhow, points for moi, he died today (15th Jan). An Fear Beag seems the likely winner still, but I''m no out yet...*

*He'll totally have 2021 next time I read this thread now...

Aye, yer points are sorted but there's still a 721 point gap between your current status and AFB's awesome performance. He's doubtless preparing his "ah it's all down to luck" victory post.

DDP pick as well. Usually, these people wouldn't get a QO, but let's see if it escalates...

Ooohh - I think I may have started this madness with a post about the expedition before it kicked off. But if Grim cleans up dead pool wise his fortune-favors-the-brave approach will go down in legend hereabouts.

That said, one team are now on the way back having managed to reach the summit in midwinter and his current scoreboard standing is as the lowest placed scorer of points (which means there is now one scorer below me)

I think now 10 have got to the top the chance of DDP QOs is negligible going forward - my only real window of opportunity is if there is an avalanche overnight that gets them on the way down.

I hope that doesn't happen because it's an amazing feat and for it to be done by the locals is rather nice.
