Derby Dead Pool 2021

Recommended Posts

In DDP 2020 I think I am going to finish 14th. My best is 12th from DDP 2016. So in order to improve, I think I spent 6-8 hours per day during the last 4 days, to make my team finally top 10 worthy. Oldest guy in my team is 78. So it will be my youngest team ever with average age of 58,75 years!

I think I spent 6-8 minutes per day during the last 1 days.

But it's my first entry and I'll have a yardstick for next year.

Might have helped had I read the points scoring system.

Aye, but I commented yesterday that when my working life was manic at the back end of 2018 I picked the team that finished 4th in 2019, a year later with plenty time I picked a team that's hanging on just inside the top 50.

Gone for a conservative selection of likely carkers but also generally steady rather than high scorers this time.

I'll pack up and go home, then

It’s for the best - save yourself the heartache and humiliation of being trounced by my selection of surefire stiffs!

Day in the Death is officially in. Admittedly my mental health has not been that great for the past few months and I don't think I'm on top form right now, so I would probably just be happy with a top ten finish, but it is what is. Good luck everyone. :)

Now I know folk will be busy with the final entries, so this is probably a muse rather than a question.

I wonder how many picks have been rejected under the new non-FBBI regime? Bound to still be some submitting the usual cases without a care in the world...

I am glad to say not a single one of my picks was rejected  for the DDP!

A few but I'll know better the other side of Hogmanay. So far its been more the difficult right on the line cases that have come up, like one of those sent in by that nefarious Gooseberry Crumble! (That pick was allowed under the famous unwritten rule "if the person is getting a Netflix documentary made about them they are probably notable" for the record. :D)

Time will tell if the scaret letter is needed...

391 teams entered up to right this second and all inputted into the master spreadsheet. There were 370 to 3:30pm in 2019 with a further 114 by midnight so looking like it will be a similar number (just depressed myself - thought I was doing quite well until I realised how many teams are entered in the last 8 and a half hours!

Thanks to everyone who has managed to use the spreadsheet - it's been a big help.

477 unmatched celebrities still to wade through but I'll do that once I've got all the teams in.

So still plenty of work to do but it's progressing well.

Happy New Year everyone!

Okay, TJS is in. Taking it far more leisurely henceforth so will be happy with a top 20 spot. Along with hoping to have my 100th career hit, but as I only need two more to do that, 2021 will be the inverse enema if I do not!

Finally got my teams in for 2021,

Main Team No Weddings and Twenty Funerals, with my theme teams being Cashier Number 91 Please and Weird with a Beard

I will miss the hopeful expectation about hearing of the death of Peter Sutcliffe, the first news story that i followed as a child, but i still have high hopes that Rolf Harris will be my winner for me this year - do you know what it is yet? Yes, a conviction for kiddy fiddling...

Since it's after midnight UK time, here's a look at who I sent in. Hopefully, my main team can get a little higher than a tie for 130th place.

                Ady Barkan

                Mangosuthu Buthelezi

                Jimmy Carter

                Michael Constantine

                Sanjay Dutt

                Jules Feiffer

                Louis Gossett Jr.

                Earl Holliman

                Joan Jara

                Bernard Kalb

                William Leuchtenburg

                Olivia Newton-John

                Yoko Ono

                William “The Refrigerator” Perry

                Carmel Quinn

                Mark Russell

                George Schlatter

                Paul Westphal

Team name: Saints Elsewhere (Actors, actresses and a theme song composer from the 1980’s US medical drama)

                Norman Lloyd

                G.W. Bailey

                Bonnie Bartlett

                Ed Begley Jr.

                David Birney

                Ellen Bry

                Ronny Cox

                William Daniels

                Dave Grusin

                Mark Harmon

                Terence Knox

                Eric Laneuville

                Howie Mandel

                Kim Miyori

                David Morse

                France Nuyen

                Christina Pickles

                Cindy Pickett

                Denzel Washington

                Alfre Woodard

Team: Rolls Off The Tongue-People with interesting sounding names

                Mel Lastman

                Maude Apatow

                Krystal Ball

                Dick Butkus

                Joey Buttafuoco

                Norm Hitzges

                Tunch Ilkin

                Jerry Kill

                Pops Mensah-Bonsu

                Fatos Nano

                Win Remmerswaal

                Socrates Rizzo

                Ludwig Scotty

                Vai Sikahema

                Otis Sistrunk

                Anna Smashnova

                Gay Talese

               Bill Tush

With some of the obscure picks in this game, I wouldn't be surprised if Win Remmerswaal is not a unique pick.
