Quick follow-up. Checked my junk e-mail folder and found confirmation from earlier in the week the team was entered without alteration.

I'm afraid this is a breakdown in Cmme communication - possibly as Jenkins was picked last year so slipped through cracks.

So that's 3 crises's in less than 20 hours and we've not tried to upload any files yet! :o

I wouldn't consider this a crisis. I made the case for her as a competitive bikini fitness athlete in the IFBB. If, upon reflection, the committee decides she's a cancer mum, then Shannen Doherty as a substitute pick will be satisfactory.

I see Fiano escaped through the net at one point too...

Me: Julian Fiano was only on one episode of a Dating show. imo, he's a NO.

Grim: Thanks - no longer a DDP eligible pick.

Those two have been axed off other teams but with 500 odd DDP teams some will sneak through before my final check next week. IN short, if you had 3 subs, you ought to be OK...

My cue to be good cop for a change after a year.

Right, everyone who needs to calm their tits, do so. Grim is currently doing a very important, highly stressful undertaking. He also pays for the sites up keep for the record. Nice chap. Please do not try to stress him off unnecessarily. That's my job. Ahem.

If you got that message it means you are in. As in the 2021 DDP. Now everyone's favourite charming temperamental Scottish co-host, and the permanent zen German co-host, are yet to go through the new names - the usual 1000 or so by a quick glance - and look over the 20 per each team (this is usually around 25 pages of excel - eyestrain central) but as this is January 1st, this hasn't happened yet. Other bits of the process have to happen first.

What will happen is that if you have picked a disqualified pick, then they will be deleted and replaced with your first sub. If you didn't produce adequate number of subs - as some folk did last year, you shall play with the resulting handicap. And there's a plan to deal with the MC Beaton Event Horizon issue from last year should it arise. But hopefully it wont. And I think you've all seen from Spade's horse trainer that there is a fair and just decisions panel in place.

I can't tell you who will be DQ'd until I see the teams - the email bit is not part of my section of the game. Maybe not warning folk as pics showed up would be better but meh, forewarned is forearmed or what not.

Anyhow, if people would like to stop worrying for a few minutes, that'd be lovely. If this doesn't apply to you, rock on, yer awesome.

I'm actually glad Julian Fiano is an ineligible pick

That means I get Peter Gotti as my first sub (hopefully)

Always like at least one bad-ass Wiseguy in my team. :)

  17. Michael Blower
  18. Jong Kyong-thaek
  19. John F. MacArthur
  20. Playboi Carti

Those are my three theme teams for 2021.

Bonus facts about my teams:

  • This is the third incarnation of my #1 Hits team to feature a hot fresh new popstar in their very first year of eligibility – first Lil Wayne in 2018, then Demi Lovato in 2019, and now Captain Tom Moore in 2021.

  • Vera Lynn set a record in 2019 as the only person to appear in all the first 4 incarnations of the #1 Hits team, and extended that record to 5 in 2020. Now she's out of contention for 2021, her record of 5 appearances is matched by Jane Morgan (who's been in every team but 2017) and Rolf Harris (every team but 2018).

  • 5 people have featured on the far more static Unpersons team for all 6 years of its existence: Julie Goodyear, Lionel Blair, Ron Atkinson, Gary Busey, and Lauren Harries.

  • David Graham, who is due to turn 96 in 2021, has been dropped from #1 Hits this year (replaced in the #20 slot by Bernard Cribbins, his bandmate in "Peter Kay's Animated All Star Band"). This, as far as I can work out, makes him the oldest eligible candidate I have ever not picked (he was the oldest eligible male outright, until Captain Tom came along). It's hard to confirm who the previous record holder was, but my best guess is 95-year-old Jimmy Young, a miss for my poorly researched 2016 debut.

  • Kim Woodburn, 79 this year, also becomes the oldest person not to be picked for Unpersons, breaking Germaine Greer's record (78 when she last wasn't picked in 2017).

  • Sarah Harding is the first person to be picked for both #1 Hits and Unpersons – she's #2 on both. She's been on Unpersons before – #20 in 2018 – but not on #1 Hits. (She was also featured on my mum's team in 2020 – after Sarah announced her cancer, my mum took her off for 2021 because she "felt guilty".)

  • The unique honour of being eligible for all three of my teams goes to Fatman Scoop – he's had a #1 hit, he's been a Celebrity Big Brother housemate, and he happened to be one of the 4000 random Wikipedia biographies I opened. I did not pick him for any of them. Congratulations Fatman Scoop.

Hahah. "Predictor's Predictions" is actually my DDP team name. It's like Walt Disney referring to his eponymous company. Uncreative, but couldn't think of a good name at the time. And to be fair, 3rd person is more tacky if you do it in real life. There's a certain detachment when it comes to forum accounts and anonymity; I'm not really Predictor and don't really identify myself with the yellow smiley next to a tombstone. :P

Lots of good lists entered this year going by what I have read on here. I think the overall standard is going up and I certainly  think there will be more unique picks across the board.

Providing QOs arrive - and you'd expect them for HOF sports men - vast number of teams at 2/20 already, less than 48 hours into the year. Any of them had McKevitt too, could be in the region of 30 points already for some.

It that a Qualifying Obit?

The reason I ask is because I understand that  uk.news.yahoo.com is a qualifying site

But the rules don't seem to mention   uk.finance.yahoo.com

I will let the adjudicator decide if finance pages AND news pages are allowed.

Thanks

He got a Mail Obit anyways, so he’s fine regardless of whether that counts or not (which I believe it does count).
