Lionel Blair

Surprising to see that he doesn't already have a thread of his own so here is the Lionel Blair thread. :)

Lionel turns 92 next Saturday so I think he def deserves a thread

I wonder if he's been forced to have "a Lionel Blair cut" due to the forced closure of hairdressers for Covid reasons.

There's a thread about all alumni of that Real Marigold Hotel programme (of which, including Lionel, you could probably find a whole DDP team's worth of candidates)

P.S. I only mean to point it out as a place that will have Lionel news already available, not being a thread Nazi.

On the Beeb News Channel, glorying in receiving his second vaccine dose...at Epsom Racecourse!

Sounds like he might be a non-runner this year.

One of those names who seemed 100% DL fodder of the future, but always seemed insanely healthy for his age when he showed up on TV.

Sounded like he had a fairly quick decline. Through it wasn’t a sudden death.

Just looked to see if he was chosen on the Derby Dead Pool and noticed they have him born two years younger  than the linked newspaper article- not that it really matters now that he has died!

Well, it'll be fixed (sorry folks, no extra point there) but that'll be down to Lionel Blair being an old school pick from back in the day, and he used to claim he was younger than he was!

With Una Stubbs and Lionel Blair both gone in fairly quick succession, Michaels Aspel and Parkinson are probably looking over their shoulders nervously.

What, they can still turn their heads that far!? Rule them out for 2022, then.

Danny Baker has put up a couple of lovely posts on Twatter about the great man.

Undoubtedly, good or bad, we have now lost the strongest link to old school British variety entertainment that was left.

One of the ten teams scoring with Lionel Blair is @Rotten Ali, who is back in the DDP after an absence. Which is nice.

This has just appeared on my timeline, probably worth a post (or a repost, I've a feeling I might have posted it before)

Keep forgetting he's still around.

I think Tommy Steele is also the last living subject of This is Your Life from the 1950s episodes.

I wouldn't say that Steele was the all round entertainer that Blair was or anywhere close to having the kind of celebrity status that Blair had with the public.
