I compared my two teams. A lot of the names were the same but my real mistake was dropping Shirley from my Hares Team

Interestingly at the moment you might slightly benefit because with that original team Williams's death would net you 7 points so only 3.1 more than the consolation points you got in actuality, but if she was a main team scorer the base potential points of the rest of your aspiring topplers would drop by 5.

This of course could change depending on which names die throughout the year.

Ex-veep Walter Mondale is on the fritz. Dying Probably had him as a sub and notches 25 points, which is roughly the amount of votes Mondale himself got in 1984.

Kirk Douglas's widow, Anne Buydens, caps off a lifetime of philanthropy with her generous donation to several HPDP participants. 35 points to Annami and Great Uncle Bulgaria, 25 to markb4, and 25 sub points to Book.

Plot twist of the century, folks. Pink Panther/Bond alum André Maranne was picked by one HPDP participant, and it was... not The Daredevil, but DeathByArsenic, whose tactic of going French-heavy in his teams paid off quite well last year, and now sees him off the mark for this. 40 base points plus 16 extra for uniqueness gains him 56.

Norman Lloyd has died. Assuming that he really has died, and is not just the figment of the imagination of some kid with a snow globe, here are the points for the Hollywood Squares participant.

40 + 24 = 64 points for Funeralopolis.

30 + 18 = 48 for Dying Probably, markb4, and the_engineer.

25 sub points for Annami and chilean way.

And it is this Lloyd-propelled haul that sees a new leader in our latest scoreboard as Funeralopolis overtakes previous leader Book who had narrowly inched past Perhaps after the death of Anne Buydens. An excitingly close game but plenty of months to go...

Former US Representative Lester L. Wolff now festers. Testament to the dangers of spending all your time tweeting. LizLemon picked Wolff as a sub and howls to the tune of 25 points.

Yoo Sang-chul's football career presented one of the World Cup's great underdog tales, with the South Korean national team making it all the way to the semis in 2002, a feat not achieved by them before or since. Somewhat like how Norfolk & Good nearly won the DDP in 2012. Admittedly South Korea co-hosted the Cup that year, so N&G would've had to have nearly won the Norfolk Dead Pool for the analogy to fully work.

Anyway, the_engineer was the only one to pick YSC as a main team pick, and scores 25 base points plus 10 bonus points for 35 total. JoeMoneypenny and theoldlady obtain 25 points from their first sub hit.

German YouTube personality Philipp Mickenbecker a canny pick here by gcreptile, who took note of the HPDP's acceptance of two preeminent German papers. The acknowledgement of his death there provides Reptile with 40 base points and 16 extra bonus unique points, resulting in a 56 point haul overall.

Heralded Kumar goes to white casket...

Yep Dilip Kumar has died. Although revered in India as one of Bollywood's greatest actors, hereabouts he's mostly known for pissing off drol. Despite being a popular forum name his only selectee in the HPDP was chilean way, who obtains 20 base points and 8 bonus for uniqueness, a total of 28 in all.

And now the latest scoreboard appears, with Reptile rising into fourth:

Two hits today. First off, Chesterfield footballing icon Ernie Moss now gathers... well... and is a unique hit for Exu. 25 base points plus 10 extra scores him 35 total.

Secondly, vibrant personality of Louisiana politics Edwin Edwards has died, who was as corrupt as most other politicians but wore his corruption as a badge of honor in a strangely endearing manner. He won a fourth term as governor purely off facing David Duke (something of an earlier version of Chirac vs Le Pen), went on to serve prison time, starred in a reality show after getting released, and had a child in his eighties. They just don't make crooks like they used to...

Sean had Edwards on his main team and now gets swamped by 45 base points coupled with 18 bonus points for 63 points in total. Perhaps had him as a sub and nets 25.

And so we're clear - I still will be hosting the HPDP for 2022 onwards. The DDP front page should be fairly easy to balance with running the HPDP - I may make HPDP updates a little more infrequent starting 2022, but it shall be updated nevertheless.

Just walk away Renée, you won't see me follow you back home...

Indeed, we bid adieu to the 109-year-old doyenne of French cinema, Renée Simonot, known for dubbing Olivia de Havilland among others in the 1930s and being the mum of Catherine Deneuve. Three teams take a bow - Annami and markb4 for 30 points, and BabyBlue off the mark with 10.

Biz Markie is a unique hit here for GuyFromFuture. Interestingly there exists a hip-hop themed spinoff of Hollywood Squares, Hip-Hop Squares, in which Markie appeared in 17 episodes of. As the show is under the Hollywood Squares franchise umbrella I am considering his appearances valid for the Squares bonus points. 40 base points coupled with an extra 48 bonus points marks a hefty 88-point hit for GuyFromFuture.

The rapid string of hits in recent hits leads to a new scoreboard, with Edwin Edwards's death proving the most crucial of the recent deaths as his sub points for Perhaps sneak him into the lead:

Edit: I think this is the first time I've ever had two hits in the same year on this game. Theme teams sometimes rock!

I should maybe add that Tom O'Connor was a panto star and appeared on Celebrity Squares.

Can't find the man on morris dancing. Should help my rather lowly score.

Tom O'Connor is a goner and brings points to Willz. Base 15 points plus the bonus points for uniqueness, panto, and Squares pulls the total O'Connor score up to 51, roughly doubling Willz's total score!

Gerd Muller a hit for five teams. 35 points for CalebH, 20 for JoeMoneypenny, 15 for sheldondinkleberg, and 25 sub points for Eesti and the Old Crem. CalebH and sheldondinkleberg are both off the mark (after CalebH previously struggled with Rodion GA's failure to QO).

Another Squares unique is Granted to GuyFromFuture. Ed Asner is Down, despite most of us thinking his prickly constitution would carry him for several years yet. 20 base points along with 24 for combined uniqueness and Squares bonus mean a total of 44 heads GFF's way.
