Death Impends

Hartlepool Deadlypool 2021

Recommended Posts

Finally getting around to listening to some Girls Aloud in light of Sarah Harding's sad death. Quite catchy. Her death pushes higher the following teams:

45 points for CalebH and Torva Messor.

40 for DeathByArsenic.

30 for Exu.

20 for The Quim Reaper.

15 for The Unknown Man and the_engineer.

and 50 sub points for Funeralopolis.

That sub bonus proves to be the most crucial for the next scoreboard as it is enough for Funeralopolis to regain the lead:

A (New) Wave of points for DeathByArsenic hot off the heels of Sarah Harding, with the news that Jean-Paul Belmondo is Breathless. Belmondo had long defied the odds - from enjoying a successful career in spite of his acting school's lack of faith in him, to living 20 years after suffering a stroke, but even those made of the sternest stuff die eventually. With his death, DBA gains 40 base points plus 16 extra for uniqueness, for 56 total.

See Abdelaziz in old Algiers,

That ex-leader is no longer here

What for maryport shall soon appear?

Points belong to him...

Longtime Algerian president Abelaziz Bouteflika has been flicked off. maryportfuncity gets 25 sub points, a rather humble score when you consider it's coming from a world leader who typically won his elections by 502%.

Five teams score with Jimmy Greaves.

Fittingly the only team to have both Saint and Greavsie also gets the most points as Pedro67 gets 45 points.

Great Uncle Bulgaria 30.

chilean way and Exu 20.

The Old Crem 15.

Quality post, which has taken some of the sense of shame and despair off my pathetic attempt to storm the HPDP this year.

Longtime part of the deadpooling furniture Greg Gilbert has died. He had typically hovered around the Hartlepool waters as a unique and indeed has been a unique for a different team each of the past three years. Pedro picked him in 2019, drol in 2020, but the one who actually gets the points is Annami with 35 base points and 14 more for the uniqueness for 49 total.

Scratch that - won't be fully settled in until the weekend most likely so I replugged my PC with the HPDP file for the time being

So quick Tapie update. Ill corruptos still die eventually, and three teams are rewarded for their patience as we play Taps for Tapie. 40 points for Funeralopolis, 35 for Annami, and 25 sub points for Charles De Gaulle.

And with that is a new scoreboard. Annami rockets up the scoreboard, however catching up to Funeralopolis will prove a tricky task in these final three months as he extends his own lead:

Two teams are animated by the death of supercentenarian Disney stalwart Ruthie Tompson. markb4 jots up 30 points, while theoldlady fittingly receives 25 points from a verrrrrrrry old lady.

Former Governor of Virginia Linwood Holton has died. More important than that, though, he was also the former United States Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs. Why does this prestigious title matter? Because he held it under Richard Nixon's presidency, which means points for me. 30 base points and 12 bonus points boost me by 42.

Clarissa Eden has dropped her guard(en) and the end result is points for DeathByArsenic, who gathers 25 points for his first substitute hit.

Speaking of subs, I didn't twig till now that Pat Martino was picked here by drol, who likewise attains 25 points.

The death of Frank Williams revs up the competition, with several teams hoping they've had part of a winning Formula.

Charles De Gaulle gets 40 points.

En Passant 35.

The Quim Reaper, Toast, and YorkshireBanker 25.

And Perhaps hits his second sub for 50 points.

And with that is a new scoreboard as we head into the final lap of this year's HPDP, with Funeralopolis staying ahead but Perhaps making it closer than before... Additionally, with Toast's first hit, every team is now on the board!

At this moment, Eileen Ash means everything to maryportfuncity. Though he probably doesn't want to think of her in a red dress. At any rate the supercentenarian cricketer's death sees mpfc run up the scoreboard with 40 base points plus 16 extra for uniqueness, for a 56-point total.

Aye well, barring a deluge of death amongst my remaining "talent" it'll simply make the woeful attempt to retain the title look marginally more respectable. Tbh I've been stumbling along since Jack Arends checked out without a q/o anywhere that counts for HPDP purposes and pissed away the third place slot on my team in doing so. John - last of the few -Hemingway, Johnny - Dambuster - Johnson  and Tom - two years on from terminal diagnosis - Smith still mock my attempts to muster a winning team!

The deluge will come after Johnny Johnson dies, surely.

Frenetic times at the HPDP with Bob Dole dead too. Would have been much more popular next year but he still benefits a lucky seven teams.

sheldondinkleberg attains 40 points.

chilean way and Dying Probably 35.

Lynchian 30.

LizLemon and The Daredevil 25.

and Eesti gets 50 points for his second sub dying.

It is this second sub hit for Eesti that puts him in a podium place on the latest scoreboard. All of the top four have a one-or-less-hit route to victory.

Funeralopolis can win with nothing else happening.

Perhaps can win with any of his four remaining picks on the table.

Eesti can win with Bob Newhart - unique pick who was on Hollywood Squares.

CaptainChorizo can win with Luis Echeverria - unique pick who qualifies for crimes against humanity bonus.

:D That's beautiful.   I've got a good feeling I might get at least one more hit this year.

Do not doubt the word of DDT. Even if it meant we were going to lose a great man, albeit after a long, well-lived life. As we remember Desmond Tutu as a beacon of light against apartheid and a general force for good until the end, DDT gets a second hit in his first year with hits at all since the loss of his Sister Wendy, with Tutu delivering 35 points (25 basic, 10 unique). Weirdly Tutu died on the third anniversary of her death!

Am desperately scouring the news to see if there is any indication that Tutu died to the comforting sounds of tribal drums, so I can apply for the death by bongo bonus.

I've often wondered if a specific type of bongo is meant, or whether the definition can be stretched to cover deaths like being trampled to death by a herd of these

Bongo-4.jpg

or being run over by one of these

I have actually seen death by Bongo in the world of fiction. One of Disney's more obscure releases was a two-in-one film, of which one's about a circus bear named Bongo. After a catchy musical number that's almost like an ode to physical abuse (or borderline wild bears' S&M culture?), there is an action scene with an intimidating bear. That bear ends up falling down the waterfall and probably drowning.
