2020 Deadpooling Report Card

Recommended Posts

Bringing this back, just because.

2020 is nearly dead, thank fucking Christ, so now’s the time to grade your own performances in this year’s batch of deadpools.

Hartlepool Deadlypool: Fucking shit. I think I entered when I was pissed at the end of last year. Figures. F

Inverse Deadpool: Oooooh, I’m set to win! Very nice surprise, and my first entry to the HOF. A+

Oldest Living State Leaders’: I got 4 in a row, and a further 3 hits after that. I haven’t got the faintest idea how. But I’ll take it! A+

Death By Numbers: Well. I’m not last. A completely fucking forgettable performance. Looking at the competition, though, I was never going to stand a chance. C-

Hare’s: It all started off so well. Then no cunt died after that. Again, I’m not last, so it could be worse. And will likely be with the hastily bodged together entry I anticipate sending soon. D

Deathlist Correctlist: It’s not been too bad! My number guess was out (I think), and I have missed a few names, but fortunately this not-such-a-skill-based number evens the field up a bit. B

Deathlist Poker Tournament: I think I’m 8th currently. I can’t complain, given that I’m as horse shit at poker as I am at deadpooling. B-

Deathrace 2020: I didn’t win. But I came 4th! So I’ll fucking take it. Another exciting one this near, as I imagine it will be next! A-

Deaths Of The Silver Screen: Lost the first one with only 1 hit, came up with an utterly implausible entry for the sequel and then thinking of the perfect one about a day after. Saving for the 3rd. But for now, I’m a dickhead. E-

Deathlist Cup 2020: Quarter Finalist on my debut last year, killed off in round 3 this year. Balls. D-

Shadow List: 22/50. Don’t mind if I do! A+

Hartlepool Deadlypool: As a gag team it was never planned on it being a win, so the fact that two unique picks actually brought a good chunk of points, I guess it's as good as it can be. C

Inverse Deadpool: As usual I am awful at deciding on who will survive the year out. Go figures. D

Death By Numbers: I am so close to overtaking Death Impends in this pool, but that final hit just doesn't seem to be there. There were a few nonobits that seemed a bit unfair (particularly Marian Cisovsky and Dr Bruce Reid) that I think will ultimately cost me the win. But despite that, as a team, it did extremely well in this pool, possibly my peak there... A

Hare’s: For the second time in four years, my joker died in January. Despite 15/25 dead, a good chunk of them died early on making my final performance mid table. C

Deathlist Correctlist: As usual, my predicting skills in which names could make the list is completely shite. Go figures. C

Deathlist Poker Tournament: Started out really strong, but ultimately lagged out in the end. Though given I was kind of busy at the time the fact it did as strongly as it did there is something to note I guess B-

Deathrace 2020: Yeah, I didn't do as well as I did last year, and I kind of deserved it. Besides not naming a joker, I went with more fringey names than usual which led to a pretty poor performance I definitely deserved. C-

Deathlist Cup 2020: Given I was hosting the cup never really stood much of a chance competing. Which was made even worse when my original opponent was a no show so I had to go up against Sir Creep instead. D-

Windy City 2019 - 2020: I am stuck being a bridesmaid here, aren't I? Every time I get into the top 3, but just could not quite reach first place. Though another top 3 appearance is certainly nothing to complain about at all. B+

Deathlist Correctlist 2020: Just like I am shit at predicting who will make the list, I am also shit at which names who made the list will actually score. Which is super fun. C-

ABC Pool III: Got fourth in end, no doubt two nonobits hurt my chances although even if I got both of them it wouldn't have scored. But hey, I did well enough as it is. B

MMMDP: Tried too hard this time. Actually went for a hospice name and I payed the price for it. Honestly was disappointed here. C

Derby Dead Pool: On paper, it looks like it'll equal the best performance to date. Looking a bit deeper though, despite the likely placement this is actually my worst performing team to date. How? Well, this is both the team with the least amount of hits (11 this time compared with the usual 12) and the likely final score is two lower than my DDP debut, which is currently my lowest scoring performance. I'm definitely going to try something different next year, which might end up being successful or failing miserably. B-

Alt Obits: The one pool that actually looks like I'm on track to win. No doubt that the Andretti/Barbarin daily double and Cisovsky being the youngest hit brought me over the line if it still holds up being true, but rules are rules. Even if I lose out on the title in the next few days though, this is by far my best performance to date. And I'm pretty happy with my ultimate placement regardless. A (will be A+ if I win)

EDIT: A+ it is

DDP - Mediocre but then I did think it was sporting to split the team into two only to see i was the only one to do that. Back to my usual hard earned mediocrity next year instead.

Alt Obits - 10th, 6th, 7th, 5th - can't say I'm not consistent at least!

MMMDP - Can't remember. Pretty sure I didn't win though.

Windy 2019-20 - Finished 3rd behind DI and Reptile

Cup - Surprised to beat Sir Creep. Then took on DI and was surprisingly competitive until a last minute finisher. So it was Brock Lesnar/Balor instead of Brock Lesnar/Ricochet... Not very good at my own invention!

Deathrace - Didn't win. Got 1400 points but was clearly off the pace.

Poker - Forgot some good picks, lingering behind DI again.

Hares - tbh I just pick old A listers so 10/25 is quite impressive.

DbN - 3rd or close to it, but lingering behind... Death Impends!

So the story is "done decently well but not as well as DI" for pretty much all of the above! :D

DDP - Content with a top 10 finish given I'm a lot more chill about it post victory. Two best decisions were keeping Shurer and risking Tom Smith seeing 2021.

DBN - Possibly ends up my only victory this year. 2 point lead... If it holds, it will be a nice last hurrah for my days of extensive research. Another case where Shurer was huge, especially since he died before the transfer period.

Cup - Was secretly hoping for an earlier exit so I could fully begin taking it easy wrt deadpooling, but kept cobbling wins against tough opponents. My wish of an exit was finally granted by An Fear Beag in, erm, the final round...

Can't be bothered to do rest. After winning the DDP, I feel I graduated from the Deadpooling University! :)

Okay, then let's go...it has to happen...

DDP - well, looks like it's a winner, baby! I'm a little sad that my other teams didn't do as well. But well, I guess, that's something I have to realize and live with. I would be pretty idiotic if I gave myself anything other than an A

Alt Obits - Well, always around place 7 so far. But my score is actually increasing. I am kind of happy with it, let's see what the future brings. B

DbN - I couldn't have hoped for that much more. Do I really want to win the deadpool I am hosting, nah - except for the DDP.... A-

Deathrace - So long ago, I can hardly remember. Pre-COVID, if you will. I did...okay B-.

Hartlepool Deadlypool - I think I'm actually not doing that bad, in spite of the little time I invested into it. I should really go for it more. B

Inverse Deadpool - 2nd place in a very difficult year. Well done, Quim Reaper! B+

Windy City Deadpool 2019/20 - I am actually losing my grip on this deadpool, jesus, I am really bad at nailing down the Top Ten names... D

ABC Deadpool 2019/20 - I finished third only because of a shocking Ed Genson non-obit. B+

Silver Screen Deadpool I - I won it, and I think I might win the second one, too, on paper A+

DeathList Cup - meh, I am just not delivering here. A source of frustration D-

MMMDP / Advent Avalanche   My MMMDP pick Rebecca Shadowen was well-picked I thought, but her COVID fight lasted an unbelievable four months. Then Hubert Auriol for the AA - nah, ill-chosen, should have done better, I had better picks on my shortlist, God, I should have picked Tabaré Vasquez... D

DeathList Correctlist - nice pool! I did good, always in the upper ranks, but it will not be enough. B-

Hare's Deadpool - no, no, no.... A total drought in this latter half of the year, sad. D-

Centenarians Deadpool - I really liked my picks, and still do!, but it didn't work D-

Edit: Oh, and the Poker Deadpool: Slightly disappointing, the gambling didn't work this time. Very midfield. C

DDP: times-up team:Two hits, both qualifying; plus one entrant who died the previous year; one rumoured to have died but didn't. About up to my usual standard. D

DDP: goodnight from him (theme team):Two hits, both qualifying; plus one entrant who died the previous year; not as good as some years, so disappointing in that respect. D

HPDP: Three hits in total, though one was from the sub's bench, a top-half finish out-of-reach once again. D

Silver Screen deadpool: Despite picking players with an average age approaching 90, all three are still very much alive, mocking me. E
