I'd go for the skier Hanni Wenzel. She won two gold medals and a silver at the 1980 Winter Olympics.

Not a name I suggested but it seems that a certain illness has put an end to her acting career:

Thank you very much @ThePrematureBurial

I will add them to the long list (some have already been added gradually, e.g. the Kessler Twins, Wim Wenders, Nicole Heesters...).

The longlist was not compiled by me alone, but by frleon, gcreptile, Prophet, TomTomTelekom, WEP and me.

So you are very welcome to take part at the end of the year, when I hope that we will start a second D-A-CH-DL!

Was Klaus Rainer Röhl on the long list? He's not dead , I was just curious. Someone I didn't realise was still alive was Alexander Allerson.

Unsure whether he is a person of interest here:

German actor and voice actor Karl-Maria Steffens seems to have died off the radar on New Year's Eve 2020:
https://www.fernsehserien.de/karl-maria-steffens/filmografie / https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl-Maria_Steffens

Mainly a stage actor, he appeared in some television productions from the 1960s until the late 1990s.

Every time this thread bumps up I hope, that this list finally gets its first hit! But then it's always: "Oh, the next German I never have heard of has died!"  :D

But at least this thread is kept alive, so all is well...
