Thoughts and Opinions on the 2021 Deathlist

Recommended Posts

For what it's worth  8 out of 32 deathlists have a hit on or by January 11. Thats 1 in 4. Last year the record breaking year the first hit was on Jan 22. So the fact we haven't had a hit yet means not much. As always we have to have patience.

The enema has always highlighted the value and virtue of patience....

Has anyone kept a record of the nationality of those on the main deathlist over the years, and if so, is this the most American-centric? I note that 25 of the 50 are Americans.

Well it's one of the few years we didn't get a hit in January so clearly we are not going to have as good a  year as l ast year. Maybe that was inevitable to some extent , but not having Larry King on the list was clearly a mistake I think everyone can agree. We can only hope that one of the lingerers such as Leslie Phiips or BOB DOLE can finally oblige us in February

The 2021 list should achieve a relatively strong result, in comparison with other lists, but will start to get bogged down when waiting on healthy, old lingerers who may still have another 5 years left or more. Eg. Queen Elizabeth II, Mel Brooks, Dick Van Dyke, Betty Boothroyd, Burt Bacharach, Stanley Baxter, Betty White, Bernard Cribbins, Raul Castro etc.

Yoko Ono and Bob Newhart were neat new additions to the list but are probably not at death’s door yet.  Ali Khamenei was most likely a wasted pick for 2021.

Out of all the people on this year's list, I'd say it's either Akihito or Khamenei who's the last man standing.

Shane MacGowan or Dick Cheney are other possibilities for last man standing.

I don't think Willie Nelson will be the last man standing, but on second though maybe he will.

Gone awfully quiet.....

A majority of hits already out of the way.  Going to be a number of long quiet patches from the official list going forward.

The list is now behind the 2020 list. One year ago today (day 74) was the sixth hit. The next key dates are 6/7 April. When 2020 had its 7th hit and 2008 had its sixth hit.

Is it me, or does it seem like celebrity deaths have been slower than usual?

I know 2020 was bad, and we lost a ton of celebrities, so maybe 2021 is correcting itself.

Everybody (in the United States) is touting 2021 as the year of recovery and comebacks, and already they see 2022 as the year where the good times will roll....

We had a couple of high profile celebrities who nearly died this year (Tiger Woods, Ashley Judd), but it seems like they are doing well and are on the mend...

So their path of recovery no doubt mirrors America's path to recovery...

Out of darkness, comes good times and partying!  The bars in America are PACKED!  Everybody's drinkin' and celebrating, and 2022 will be a year where everybody will party hard!!! Yeah baby!!

Regarding the descriptions on the DL, should Shannen Doherty's say 90210 Actress instead of Actor? I also think adding "US Politician" to all the American politician descriptions would look better, or a slightly more insightful term on the key part they played in their career. Describing them as just a "politician" is too broad and looks lazy/bland.

I just thought distinguishing the nationality of them would look better, considering how politician-heavy the list is this year.

Anyways, not important. Just me being a picky sod.

"90210 Cast Member" would have been a better description for Shannen Doherty on the list since "cast member" is a common term to refer to actors and actresses of a specific film or a TV show.

Just a reminder that there may well be erroneous reports of the deaths of various celebrities in  the coming hours , but you should probably ignore them, especially if they are reported by someone called April Olof...

And if you're reading this April, it's not funny. I spent ages googling to find out if Prince Andrew really had been killed in a freak paragliding accident... :angry2:
