Couldn't find a thread for him.

Famous in his own backyard.

Aged 84, had a cancer scare a few years back, commentator on BBC Scotland Sportscene many years ago. (I'm sure us Jocks of a certain age will know exactly who he is).  Also 'appeared' in the film 'Trainspotting' ( well, re-voiced the famous goal by Archie Gemmill against Netherlands) author of the best selling biography of Jock Stein.

Paul punt methinks. Hopefully not, but ............

Loved the way he was 'represented'  on ' Only an excuse' many years ago.

"It's a Swiss rollover!"

That was my intro to Archie. Before he had an on screen renaissance in the latter days of Scotsport.

He has such a way with words too ie "Facing a Ronald Koeman free kick is *just* like facing a serial killer!" :D

“Aged 84, famous in his own backyard, had a cancer scare...”

This could just be one of my Nan’s friends for fuck sake.

I might remember who he is when I’ve less wine in me. Fucking unlikely.

Had no idea he was mid 80s. I would have assumed he was mid 70s based on his voice as he has barely ever been seen in his career.

Ditto, would've said mid-70's max.

He's well known in England too. He used to appear in a couple of inserts within Grandstand each week - one previewing the upcoming Scottish games, and the other offering a match report during Final Score.

Mostly for Paul, but anyone else of vague interest, BBC Scotland are doing a series all about disasters and in Episode 3 they covered the 71 Ibrox Stadium disaster. Anyhow, our Archie MacPherson showed up as a talking head interviewee and he looks and sounds a lot better than he did a few years ago.

BBC iPlayer - The Disasters that Shocked Scotland - Series 1: Episode 3
